Kuroda on joining the Yankees
"They have an incredible tradition. They contend for the championship every year. I wanted to play for a team like that. When you get to my age, you don’t know how much longer you can pitch and I wanted to experience that before my career ended."
When Will the Killer B's arrive?
Probably not that soon, giving us some more time with the nickname. Come back to us, Andrew Brackman.
Over / Under 30 A-Bombs! in 2012
As of this moment*, 55% of the vote on SportsNation has A-Rod topping 30 home runs in 2012, which seems incredibly optimistic.

"Isn't it pretty to think so?"
I’d love to see it happen, but I think the days of Alex hitting 30+ are behind him. Of course anything could happen, and I could also win the lottery – I just wouldn’t bet on it.
And FML for being up working when this post published…

Last night, a comedian died in New York. Somebody knows why. Somebody knows
well I do get 7 days off after the 7 days of work
so there’s that.

Ok....
I think it’s fair to expect A-Rod to reach 30 homers again without it being blind optimism. He’s gone all of one year without doing it.
If he can stay on the field, maybe by utilizing the DH spot more often, I think he’ll reach 30 a-bombs more than one more time in his career.

What if we think A-Rod will hit an even 30 homers?
Happened just a few years ago against Tampa on the last day of the season. It could happen, right?
Just a matter of physics
I’m not a doctor but as I understand it, his rebuilt hip may or may not make it. It’s a quarter of a billion dollar crap shoot.
You guys are way overeacting to last year
Yes, he is older, is now not protected by ’roids and is injury prone, but he is also an incredibly motivated, disciplined and hard working athlete with prodigious natural ability. There is no reason to think that he cannot stay healthy this year and, if he does, he could hit 40 HRs and certainly will hit over 30.
Look at Aaron’s numbers post-35 and you will see a late power surge before hitting 40 (years old) that A-Rod could match.
Oh, ye of little faith!
I want a....
push option in the poll. I think he’ll be right AT 30.
I think A-Rod is capable of playing 130 total games and being the 4th best 3B in baseball in 2012.
We do need to temper our expectations somewhat. He will be 37 this year, and hitting 30 home runs at that age is actually a semi-rare event. Best shape of his life notwithstanding, he doesn’t have a time machine.
One bad season
And I think you’re all underestimating the knee surgery he’s having. Kobe’s playing at a MVP level right now, and I think it could have the same effect on A-Rod.
New York Knicks = Sleeping Giants
If A-Rod parks 30 HRs I will do my best to personally apologize to him for doubting the likelihood of it.

Do you think he won’t play in enough games or he doesn’t have the ability to anymore even when healthy?

Age curves for power (ISO) are brutal. I don’t think he has it in him anymore going on 37.

"Yankees seriously talking to Bill Hall"
MLB Rumors says Kevin Long has been working out with him. A .200 hitter?
The KIller Bs will arrive in September. If they arrive before that, the DL will be as long as a phone book.
Sabathia, Kuroda, and unfortunately Burnett have been practically indestructible. That leaves the ageless Garcia, Hughes, Pineda, and Nova to cover the other two spots in the rotation. The Bs come up just for a look.
I more or less agree with Tex Baby. ARod will be around for a while longer, and 30 homers could certainly happen again, but there is no particular reason to suspect that this is the year. Doing so would involve reversing a performance trend line that has been going down since 2008. That said, I understand that financially, ARod is in the best shape of his life. Sorry, I couldn’t resist.
