In a conference call with reporters (including Chad Jennings of the LoHud Yankees blog) today, GM Brian Cashman said he will look to fill the Yankees’ DH spot through a trade, with free agent designated hitters being a “secondary” focus. Cashman said it’s “a possibility” he will try to acquire a hitter using the Yankees’ excess pitchers.
Gulp…

I see a Warren or Phelps for DH trade in the works if he can’t get rid of A.J. for a DH

Hughes, apparently.
The Yankees hope to address their DH need by trying to deal A.J. Burnett for salary relief or a “DH type,” tweets Joel Sherman of the New York Post. If that isn’t possible, Sherman says the next target would be to deal for a young, controllable hitter in exchange for a young starter like Phil Hughes.

That’s more Sherman’s opinion than fact

Trading Phelps or Warren doesn’t really help at all.

It doesn’t help, I’m not saying they should, but I expect it to happen

Right…but they need to get rid of one guys in the majors, which is where they have too many starters, not someone in the minors. That’s not where the excess is.

There's no reason for it to happen
I mean, if they can help them fill a need in a trade, then go ahead. But at this point I don’t see any reason to trade Phelps or Warren. They’re good insurance to have at the very least.

Thats interesting
Cashman’s clearly not done.

Who is a this mythical DH type?
I hope: Mark Trumbo, Kendrys Morales, Michael Young (if Texas signs Fielder), Billy Butler
I fear: Carlos Lee, Bobby Abreu, Vernon Wells, Alfonso Soriano, Adam Dunn
I wish they went after someone like Cameron Maybin or Dominic Brown to improve our depth and allow more DHing to go around.
I laughed
Vernon Wells
Good one.

What the hell do I do now?
Cowboys fan from NY. I dislike the Giants, but also hate everything that ever came from the Boston area. Meteor?
Not when my house owns the rights to the family Super Bowl party!
We’re going to party like its 2007. Personally my favorite Super Bowl ever seen just because of the story line, action, and family. Great environment. Hope we duplicate it.

Ok, a question for everyone (yes, even you Rorschach)
Who is your favorite pitcher, hitter outside that isn’t on the Yankees?
Mine are Clayton Kershaw and Ryan Braun.

Also Kershaw, a fantastic pitcher and he’s quite the human being.
As far as a hitter, I’d have to say Miguel Cabrera. Dude can hit anything, anywhere.
Romine!
Miggy is a fine choice.
I hope he solves his drinking problem.

Too many to narrow down, but here are some that I really like to watch:
Andrew McCutchen
Ian Kinsler
Matt Kemp
Ike Davis
Adrian Gonzalez (don’t care)
Mike Napoli
Miguel Cabrera
Mike Stanton
Ryan Zimmerman
Justin Upton
Jesus Montero (ouch)
Roy Halladay
Justin Verlander
Tim Lincecum
Mark Buehrle
Zack Greinke
Neftali Feliz
Craig Kimbrel
Gun to my head, I’d probably go with Miguel Cabrera and Roy Halladay, but I might give a different answer if you asked me in a week.

Asked about being a catcher, Montero said, "That’s why I’m here." Zduriencik said Montero will get "every opportunity" to become the team’s everyday catcher.
Montero said he was "shocked" by the trade because he was convinced the Yankees were about give him his shot in the big leagues, but he also had previous prepared himself to play in Seattle, so the transition was fairly easy. He said his family is happy about the trade because they view it as a new opportunity.

Trade us Ellsbury for AJ and a bag of balls.
The bag of balls being the focal point of the trade.

They have a worse AJ in Lackey
Honestly though, with Ross they could conceivably sell high on Ellsbury and move Crawford to CF
