Could Johnny Damon be a Yankee again?

| Could he take #18 back from Jones? |
In case you hadn't heard the Yankees and Mariners swapped Jesus Montero and Michael Pineada and while the biggest impact of this is improving the rotation, the Yankees gave up a young impact back who was going to be their primary DH next season. Now the Yankees have a need at the DH spot and it will be curious to see how they fill this hole.
Johnny Damon was not resigned by the Tampa Bay rays after a decent season as the DH, after they initially signed him for left field and Manny to DH, but the Rays signed Luke Scott instead of resigning Damon. Now Damon could be a fit for Yankee and we know they tried to bring him back in 2010 but Damon wanted a big multi year deal and he eventually ended up signing in Detroit for $8 million. The problem of course is that Damon is declining, as would be expected from a 38 year old and the Yankees don't want another poor year from the DH spot after two bad years in a row. However most DH's are in decline and the first thing that I thought of after Montero was traded was that Damon would be coming back. We will have to wait and see what happens, but Damon is a strong possibility.
I wrote about some of the other DH possibilities on A True Yankee

Damon would never take a Jones type deal
hell sign for another $5million deal with the o’s

i'll bet he'd take a hometown discount
to play for the yanks. how many more chances does he get to be on a championship team? i say he’d take $3.5 million with some performance incentives to bring it up to $4 million. i want him back at that number.
Boone Logan is a good boy. So is David Robertson. Team A.J.
bull
damon is a good player but he is a dumb ass who will overvalue himself again

Damon really has no market to do this though
He cant go to the NL because he cant play the field. He isnt getting a full time DH job in AL either. Therefore best he could do is a Giambi like role in NL or a role like Yanks can offer. If Damon really wants to get to 3000 hits, he wont be making much money on his way there.
Should you choose to test my resolve in this matter, you will be facing a finality beyond your comprehension, and you will not be counting days, or months, or years, but milleniums in a place with no doors.
Is this really necessary? There is nothing wrong with Damon trying to maximize his earnings. Just because he misjudged the market two years ago doesn’t mean he’ll do the same again. Damon has made over $100m during his career thus far.

I don't think Damon is needed.
I think if the Yankees put A-Rod or some other aging infielder at DH and gave Laird or Nunez a large amount of at-bats, good things will come. Why spend more when there are options sitting here already?
The Yankee Way™
why put faith in a young unknown when you can just bring in an old guy you KNOW will suck?
This is most likely what will happen
But instead of blowing a couple million on some aging free agent, at least try an in-house option first or try and trade one of the major league ready prospects that they know they aren’t going to play over their superstar millionaires for a good hitter.
That page has turned with Posada now gone. A-Rod, Jeter, and Tex are still productive.

Well Jeter and A-Rod are soon going to be full time DH's
A-Rod still plays some good defense and looks able, but gets injured too much. Jeter is just getting old.
