Last night we turned that game on during dinner. We saw them kick the PAT to make it 28-7, then went in the kitchen to get another taco. By the time we came back two minutes later it was 35-7.

Well, they don't need to.

But if they are really setting a cap for themselves in the future, they’re going to have to start considering locking in young talent like this with extensions similar to the way the Rays have done with some of their players.

by jetanumba2 on Jan 15, 2012 2:04 PM EST up reply actions

They are really looking to set a cap for 2014 and maybe 2015/2016. Gives the Yanks plenty of time to get a good look at Pineda without having to shell out more during that time.

It's that the world is basically a forced labor camp from which the workers, perfectly innocent, are led forth by lottery, a few each day, to be executed.
I don't think that's just the way I see it. I think that's the way it is. Are there alternative views? Yes. Will any of them stand close scrutiny? No.

by memitim on Jan 15, 2012 4:12 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Yes, but he will cost more if you go through arbitration for all those years after the mins run out

Than if you sign him to a team friendly, $millions guaranteed to a young player over that same period of time. Even better, lock him up through 1 or 2 of his FA seasons with team options. It’s not something the Yankees need to think about, but if they really do care about payroll and getting under the luxury tax, it’s something they may want to consider.

The more success Pineda (or any young talented player) has prior to the signing of an extension like this, the more the extension will cost, and if you wait to long, the way the Rays did with Price, negotiations will be off the table until FA comes around.

by Dylan87 on Jan 15, 2012 4:40 PM EST up reply actions

The only one I can see coming true is the first one

Damon loves NY and won’t cost much, and he can at least sort of still be productive offensively. Matsui is horrible and Posada is retired, so I can’t see either of those possibly coming true.

But if they really don’t have a lot of money then Pena is probably out. I’m guessing it’ll be Damon or nobody.

Agree

Being on a boat on the open sea is great, and some excursions are a lot of fun, but you can only have so much so-so all-you-can-eat food at every hour of the day before you start feeling like you’re trapped in a Catskills borscht belt nightmare. At least that’s how I felt.
