Game 138 Preview: CC Takes on Toronto
CC Sabathia looks for win number 19 today, as he pitches against Toronto Blue Jays starter Brett Cecil. Sabathia's ERA is currently at 2.99, so a good start would help him keep his ERA under 3, as well.
The Yankees hold a half game lead over the Red Sox in the AL East, so every win is important. This is a game the Yankees should win.

Teixeira is still a superstar from the right side.
It’s his paltry .326 OBP from the left side that is worrisome.

It is an idea, I’m just not sure how good of an idea it is.

I gotta disagree at this point.
Colon’s last outing wasn’t great, but he kept us in the game. His start before yesterday’s was a gem, he just got literally zero run support. 7IP, 2ER, 0BB. I’m leaning toward Hughes to the ’pen right now.

I’m not sure I agree or not, but it wouldn’t be about how he has pitched. It wouldn’t be because he doesn’t deserve a starting spot anymore, but because no one truly knows how much longer his arm will hold up. Maybe he could start every 5 games now till the end of the season, but maybe not. The more innings you put on him, the more likely that is to happen at this point. Moving him to the pen would alleviate some of that and hopefully keep him healthy throughout a playoff run. Is it worth losing him in the rotation when no one knows when or if his arm will definitely give out? That’s the question.

I would not do it.
Colon is one of the Yankees Top 4 starters at this point in time and there really is no point to send him to the bullpen. The only role he could even play is that of a long man and he would only get into games to mop up blowouts.
It is not making good use of him as the Yankees already have plenty of relievers to cover the last four innings of a ball game. Even if he ends up breaking down, there is no role for him to play in the bullpen outside of the long man and if that is his role, he will be getting a lot of work anyway so he might as well start,

Besides, does anyone really believe that Colon is one of their best starters anymore? Earlier this season, he was better than anyone not named CC Sabathia. But he’s regressed. When he allowed four runs on seven hits in 6-1/3 innings Saturday against Toronto, it gave him an 0-3 record and 5.68 ERA in his last four starts. He’s allowed 29 hits in his last 25-1/3 innings.
It’s a poor argument. In each of their last four starts, AJ has gone 1-2, 17.2 IP, with a 10.70 ERA while Phil Hughes went 3-1, 22 IP , with a 6.14 ERA. Meanwhile, Colon has still posted a very good 20K and 3BB during this time.

If the playoffs began today, I'd have Colon starting Game 3.
There’s no pair from AJ/Hughes/Garcia that would be more effective starting than any one of those three plus Colon. His arm breaking down is definitely a concern, but I don’t think the Yankees have the luxury to try to slightly improve a bullpen at the definite cost of a starter.

Well, Girardi said he’s made a decision on the rotation that he’ll announce after the game. Since AJ had a decent outing more recently (among other factors) I have to assume it’s Hughes going to the pen.

Yup
I’ll be very surprised if AJ goes to the bullpen. Especially after his last outing which Girardi seemed very happy with and called it “outstanding”.
Welcome to the Majors, Jesus!
Now PLAY HIM MOAR!!
Loved AJ's outing but will he be consistent?
