Nice

I have tickets for Game 1 of the ALCS at Yankee Stadium, should they make it. They sure as hell had better make it. And if they do, then I might look at going on stubhub and getting possible World Series tickets as well.

It is very expensive

The only reason I’m considering it is because stubhub gave me 800 credits this year that I could use on any ticket this year or next year. And they gave me those because I bought tickets off stubhub for a Yankee-Orioles game at Camden Yards this year that got rained out twice, so they took pity on me and gave me a gift.

I’m not complaining.

The pitch for a homer he yanked. A down and in fastball is never a good pitch to lefthanded hitter. It's conceivable he'll be left off.

He’s not throwing anything other than hard stuff. It’s hard to win that way. Your location has to be almost impeccable.

For all of those revelling in the Sox collapse (I do to varying degrees), the worse

thing about it is that it taints the WHOLE season. Even if they win the wild card it won’t be any kind of a positive accomplishment that will offset this terrible slide. They’re almost in a no-win situation. They are at the point where maybe if they make the WS this won’t be remembered for a long time, and for a franchise that’s had a lot of those moments that is just torture.

Gardner really wants 50 SB

-If he got there, he would be one of 5 Yankees EVER to steal 50.
-He would be the first to do so since 1988, when Henderson set the single-season team record with (an unlikely to be broken) 93.

At this point it would be easy to agree with you, but if Boston hits the way they are capable of hitting

they would pose a serious dilemma for ANY of our starters. In contrast, Tampa is decent hitting team without a gamebreaker. Tampa has the pitching edge though, no doubt.

Not a fan at all of this desperation to lose both games.

Our main concern is winning it all. It shouldn’t concern us how Boston fares if we run them over. Of course, we’d love to rub it in Boston fans’ faces if they don’t make it, but for us to go out of our way to lose in order to make that happen doesn’t sound so appealing to me. It’s like we go out of our way to lose to hurt another team.

Nonsense

I can root for the Yankees and Baltimore to win, and for Tampa to win a playoff game against the Red Sox to complete the choke job. This gets Tampa into the playoffs with minimal rest, and lets me watch my Yankees win. I’m not saying they have to play their A lineup, but even if they put the Trenton Thunder on the field today, I’ll be pulling for them to win, like always.

by waw on Sep 28, 2011 10:01 AM EDT up reply actions

I was kinda kidding, but not

really. Boston in a “playoff” game means they made the post-season to a degree. That’s not as humiliating as missing the playoffs after ESPN had them as World Champions.

Watching Wade mix curves and changeups with fastballs from 87-90 and be so precise is why he can be a dominant reliever

without a live fastball. What a pick up by Cashman. Granted he’s a reliever, but if AJ could change speeds like that and pitch in reverse somewhat (that is getting ahead with off-speed pitches and getting outs on fastballs) he’d win many more games.

by chambliss76 on Sep 27, 2011 9:14 PM EDT reply actions

AJ doesn't need to be a finesse guy to be successful

He needs to get that curveball over the plate.

by nyyrocks29 on Sep 27, 2011 9:15 PM EDT up reply actions

Right, that's what I meant by off-speed, but he's down to about 92 with his heater and a changeup

might allow him to be less predictable. It doesn’t matter how good any pitch is. You throw too many curveballs they’re gonna look for them.

by chambliss76 on Sep 27, 2011 9:18 PM EDT up reply actions

Hasn't he used some sort of sinker/fast changeup more in the past few starts?

He’s gotten a lot of swings and misses of of it and I think, although he doesn’t throw it that much it helps his curveball be more effective.

I want them to win. A question: Shouldn't Tex have been 3/8 to 1/2 way on Swisher's double. Christ, if the ball's that deep he can

see if it gets caught and then retreat and have plenty of time to run to third. Tex has to score on that play.

Meh

It is a little nicer than it looks on TV, but that’s not exactly saying a whole lot. Plus it sucks to get to, parking is awful, and the area it’s in is kinda dumpy (to put it nicely).

The owner Sternberg deserves a new building but I think he wants to move to Tampa

Which makes a ton of sense but St Pete wont have it. Its a big reason why place is empty, and the economy down here too. Bucs drew great in early 2000’s but now they get blacked out, peeps are broke.

relax, there's still an inning to go

I think there's a decent chnace Gardner won't start versus lefties in the playoffs. We'd miss his defense and speed, but

Jones is a better option offensively. Gardner’s only hitting 238 vs. lefties and provides zero power or extra base potential versus them.

Girardi pretty much made it known that only non playoff pitchers are going tomorrow

He was quite pissed about only one day off.

so, to sum up

the sux had to bite their fingernails as they burned through their 3 best relievers and still didn’t put the win in the bag until a 3-2 pitch in the bottom of the 9th with the winning run at the plate? hahahahaha…

i really like the rays’ chances just now…

They’re now up three on Houston in the 7th. I want two single-game playoffs on the same day dammit.

stats question

how did papsmear pitch 1 inning, give up two hits and a run, and have it count as unearned?

by sing_or_die_1818 on Sep 27, 2011 10:48 PM EDT reply actions

It was earned

not sure where you see unearned
