So if the Rays lose tonight
Can we assume Boston said they would foot the bill for their roster next season?

Might as well

Welp, there goes that
after 2 outs on 6 pitches, a 5 pitch walk to Gonzalez, but the no no is in tact.
Wouldn't it be better
to just root for the O’s?
"Unpleasant Internet Dude"

We can root for the O's all we want
But the Yanks need to lose 1 more than the Sux for it to matter

I’m rooting for both the Rays and the O’s. I would like to see Noesi pitch well and for Cano to pad his stats a little bit but that’s about it.
See? All is going to plan.
Girardi will have Ayala throw three innings after Noesi is done with his three and everything will be fine.

i mean i don't know if Vegas can support a baseball stadium
a basketball court, yes, but maybe not a baseball field. I’m not a doctor though
not just heat
but i mean the way the city is. I’ve never been there so i don’t know, but to me it doesn’t seem like the place to have an open stadium. It would have to be one of those stadiums that is planted right in the middle of the city and i don’t know if it could work. I’m not basing this on any type of facts, just something i vaguely remember hearing and stuff
Vegas could have an open stadium
Their minor league stadium is open. It would work. Retractable roof all the way though, because it can get brutal
Lance Pendleton's biggest only fan
Parking could be a problem
They would have to use a garage type structure.
And vegas has nice buses, and cheap buses, taxis, a monorails, and could shuttle to offsite parking.
Lance Pendleton's biggest only fan
Yeah this was what i was unsure of
but the gambling thing will make this never ever close to happening
I agree, at least under Selig
I think if a hotel group sponsored it though, and offered packages with tickets and hotel rooms, it could work really well.
Lance Pendleton's biggest only fan
Fanbase may not support it
UNLV rebels draw huge crowds, it is a basketball town. The 51’s get no attention here and you need regular fans, idk if Vegas can do that
Lance Pendleton's biggest only fan
I think the Carolinas could maybe support a team
though they’d have the Braves and Nats in their face
I think we could
As long as it’s in the Raleigh area
"Unpleasant Internet Dude"
formerly known as "Rude Internet Guy"
They’d have to shell out for a retractable roof if they did because there are some weeks over the summer where it rains almost every night here. Not for long periods of time, but a lot of random thunderstorms that would cause delays.
They put an MLB stadium on the ballot a few years ago in my hometown and it failed pretty dismally, if I remember correctly. I think that was the 2nd time they had tried to get one to pass.

I don't know if you are being sarcastic or not, but...
this is pretty much the only reason I could think of on why so many people “hate” Romine. Same thing with Martin.
I’m sure it has nothing to do with the fact that Martin was awful for half the season or that Romine is a AA hitter.
Jesus Montero fangirl
by WhatwouldJeterdo on Sep 26, 2011 9:32 PM EDT up reply actions
I had no problem with the "hate" during those months where he was just terrible
Montero should have been up then and its ridiculous that he wasnt considering how bad Martin was. I just thought he should have been given more credit when he was actually doing well. It just seems like the guy was doomed before he even got here and people were rooting for hiim to not do well, so that Montero would be called up. This is just my opinion, feel free to disagree…
I don't think anyone actively watched games hoping Martin would fail.
Why would they? When he did, nothing was done about it. It was blatantly obvious that they were going to stick with him for reasons I can’t understand. I, and others I’m sure, got sick of watching him continually fail because that hurts the Yankees. It didn’t help that we had a perfectly logical backup plan that was ignored. When A-Rod slumps, we have no real choice but to deal with it because the comparable options just aren’t there, so that’s why I think Martin got the amount of “hate?” he got. There was an option that could have been better if given a chance.
He’s had a pretty poor September too, but apparently people are over it.

Not enven for Bedard?
Ted Williams' famous Red Sox farewell speech: "I consider myself the unluckiest man on the face of the Earth."
We don't need him to do that.
I’d like him to be the primary catcher but realistically the front office won’t do that. But either way, he will be a great hitter for us for a long time and trading him would be dumb.
i'm just so pissed off right now
Romine better not hit a game winning grand slam to get to Sox into the playoffs
Why are you hating on Romine?
He’s a AA player who is up here right now because stupid Nick Markakis decided to run over Cervelli. Of course he won’t be able to hit.
Not his fault he’s in the game. Girardi put him in.
Welcome to the Majors, Jesus!
Now PLAY HIM MOAR!!
what is this hating crap
I don’t hate Romine, I don’t know him, I’m sure he’s cool. He is not good, he doesn’t deserve to be here in any way and he is taking away from Jesus time and making everyone believe that he is a better defender than Jesus when they look exactly the same
OK whatever
It’s just some of the comments about him come across as not liking him. Maybe I misunderstood.
It’s just another meaningless end of the year game before the playoffs. Not that important. If Jesus went in thats great, but it’s not a big deal that he isn’t. So long as he’s on the playoff roster.
Welcome to the Majors, Jesus!
Now PLAY HIM MOAR!!
if Romine gets a hit i will obviously be happy for him
if he becomes the backup catcher that would be great, but right now, in a meaningless game at the end of the year Jesus should be getting these innings. We don’t need ‘good defense’ right now
I'll agree with that
Romine is ready defensively, but he still has a long way to go with the bat. If he improves his hitting in AAA next year then I could definitely see him possibly having a future with this team. Especially if Montero becomes more of a Victor Martinez and less of a full time catcher like Piazza was.

I think it's more so at catcher than anything else
Having a great defensive catcher that can block the ball and throw out baserunners is huge. Much bigger than a top defensive infielder or something of that sort.
Thats what we’ve seen out of Martin this year. He’s disappeared at times with the bat, but he’s provided excellent defense, from throwing out runners to blocking to calling a game (though the last one is not nearly as important as the Yankees think). He’s the best defensive starter the Yanks have had since Girardi himself I believe.
Welcome to the Majors, Jesus!
Now PLAY HIM MOAR!!
Defensively?
He hasn’t. I have no idea. I just know that the Yankees have seen Romine play a lot and they think very highly of him defensively, where as Montero is thought of as only serviceable at best behind the plate. I’m just assuming they have some sort of idea of what they’re talking about.
Welcome to the Majors, Jesus!

yes, and thats what Jesus could be
Depends on what the Yankees want I guess. A defense-first catcher with less of a bat behind the plate and Jesus DHing or at 1B, or Jesus behind the plate with his bat and they live with any defensive shortcomings he may have.

Every part of me hopes that the Yankees are smarter than to make someone a pure DH. I have to think they are. There is no room for a pure DH on this team for the foreseeable future. I have to believe they know that and won’t do that to Jesus.
Jesus Montero fangirl
by WhatwouldJeterdo on Sep 26, 2011 9:56 PM EDT up reply actions
Thats why I think maybe like Victor Martinez
Catching sometimes, DHing sometimes, and maybe some first base in there as well. Not full time DH, but he does his share.
Welcome to the Majors, Jesus!
Now PLAY HIM MOAR!!
not right now
he is a catcher until he proves he can’t do it full time and someone proves they can step up
Actually the only player that will a pure DH in the future will be A-Rod. Jeter will remain at short the next two years. Teixeira will play first his entire time here. No one else is under contract that long. So since A-Rod isn’t ready to play there full-time yet the Yankees will need someone to plug at DH for the next few years.
Ah, what I said came across wrong.
I mean we don’t have a place on the team for someone to be signed or come up from the minors with the Pure DH tag on them. We need that spot for giving people half days off and eventually just A-Rod, and that isn’t worth taking Jesus’ bat out of the lineup for when he is perfectly capable of catching.

by Briceratops on Sep 26, 2011 10:01 PM EDT up reply actions
I'd really, really prefer he split time.
Martin will be there unless he’s somehow traded, and proved this year that catching every day takes too much of a toll on him. Giving Jesus 3-4 days a week behind the plate and then DHing him the others while Martin catches wouldn’t really draw complaint from me.

They still want to develop Jesus’ defense, the end of the season and playoffs is not the time for that. Romine’s defense is seen as more major league ready, so he gets the backup while Cervelli is down.
meaningless games at the end of the season are a perfect time
see what you have. carrying Romine, Posada, Martin, and Jesus takes up 4 roster spots with C/DH options. Bench depth can be the difference in the postseason

Love Scut. Hate Passan
I’m….. hating alot tonight. It’s consuming me.
I give it five minutes
Before Passan writes a column about Ellsbury’s drop being a metaphor for the Red Sox season.

It is a gross INSULT to the journalistic term "column" to even begin to imply that Geek Passan can write any such thing!

Ha i said the same thing above
The idiot wrote 3 sox articles within the last week, one contradicting the other two. And the other two he was too busy choking on the sox’s dick
Yup. The clown fool of wanna'-be bad bloggers wrote on Fri. that the Sox collapse was
overblown. He then wrote a piece (of sh!t) on Sat. proclaiming the death of the Sox. Sunday? The gloriousness of the indominatable Sox.
I actually recommend reading the buffoon’s work…you won’t stop laughing!

It would be sad if they fired Francona.
Guy wins them 2 titles. He didn’t sign Crawford and Lackey. They should send wonder boy Theo packing.

I love playoff playoffs. Which is why I hate the idea of expanded playoffs; it makes genuine Dodgers-Giants ’51, Yankees-Red Sox ’78 that much rarer.

All these races that have made September exciting this year
They’re all gone if this new plan is put into place. I like one game playoffs when they just happen. Not because Selig decides to schedule them every year.
Welcome to the Majors, Jesus!
Now PLAY HIM MOAR!!
I think I heard something that said the players wouldn’t agree to it unless they had balanced schedules for every team, to insure that every team has the same chance to make the playoffs. That would be a good thing I guess, seeing as it eliminates interleague and they don’t play the Red Sox 18 times a year anymore. But I’d rather have the unbalanced schedules than an extra playoff team.
Welcome to the Majors, Jesus!
Now PLAY HIM MOAR!!
i hope that keep it from happening
because i heard it was a lock and could come into play by next year

why are the Marlins trading for Guillen
isn’t he a free agent after the season? Also why are they trading for a manager?
