Yankees at Angels Preview
The Yankees look to avoid the sweep today, as they face off against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
For the Yankees, the main issue this series has been their offense. The normally potent offense failed to score a single run last night, and scored only one run Friday night.
Perhaps that was the Jered Weaver/Dan Haren effect, or perhaps it was the offense's combined slump. Either way, the Yankees need to hit the ball to win games.
Freddy Garcia will try to bounce back from an awful start against Baltimore in his previous appearance. Garcia looks like he is locked in for a playoff start, but he still needs to help the Yankees win the division.
The game is also big for Los Angeles, who is currently fighting for a wild card/division spot in the playoffs.
We could see Austin Romine in LA, as Francisco Cervelli and Russell Martin both may be unavailable.
Let's Go Yankees, see you in the game thread at 3:15!

so, thats thee plan
Mariano Rivera must break the record at home…..
i'm all for bringing up Romine
but if he catches before Jesus then there is something very wrong. Chances are though they’ll send out Russell Martin’s corpse first
From Buster:
“Evaluators trailing NYY have real doubts about whether Swisher, A-Rod, Martin will be ok rest of season. Also say Gardner is exhausted.”
F#$%!
Gardner’s how old? He’s exhausted? What a puss. Makes sense though, he’s playing like it.

Didn't think I'd see that this season.
Usqueadbaugham! Anam muck an dhoul ! Did ye drink me doornail?
Also sweet is the 3-0 lead TB has put on BOS in the bottom of the 1st
Lester’s up to 29 pitches with two outs.

I'm really liking this "let Montero start every day" approach they've been taking!
Especially now that he gets to catch
I honestly don't give a shit that he's catching
Next year, yea he needs to catch. But this year, his role to help this team in the playoffs is going to be as a DH, so if he DH’s every single game the rest of the year then I’m happy. I don’t care if he catches or not, I just want his bat in there.
Hope Russ and Cervelli get healthy soon though.
Welcome to the Majors, Jesus!
Now PLAY HIM MOAR!!
I'm happy he's catching because that means he can contribute at 2 positions instead of 1.
That way he can still play even if a regular is getting a half-day-off
Yup yup and yup.

True- it keeps his bat in the lineup
I’m not upset that he’s catching- I want him playing as much as possible. I just don’t mind at all this year how they do it, whether it’s as a catcher or a DH (though if they put him in center field I’d be ticked).
But in the playoffs, he’s the DH, Martin’s the catcher. Thats the way it should be and thats the way it had better be. Otherwise, Girardi…

If that is true, he’ll catch.

Fine by me
Just don’t let him catch Burnett. He can catch the other five. I just want his bat in the lineup as often as possible, because you can argue that he’s the most dangerous hitter in the lineup right now (exception may be Cano).

I love him batting behind Cano right now.
With all the injuries, we have to have a strong bat there or Cano will never see anything to hit.

Cano can probably get hits even if he never sees a strike
Though yes, it’s more convenient they throw him something he’s more likely to do well off of, because he’s the only other guy in the lineup that I feel with hitting right now.

yeah, Jamie Foxx helped him
Zack Galifanakis was annoying, but they came to respect each other by the time they got to LA.
Wait, that might be a movie I saw.

Kerry Collins will do that to a team.
34-0 at the half, though. Man.

Scutaro leads off the 3rd with a solo HR, though
And the tying runs are on base with no outs. Time for Big Game James to live up to his name.

Shields is losing it

And just like that he gets out of it with a couple popups

Oh yeah.
And those pop-ups were Ortiz and Reddick. Looks like Shields is trying out his own Houdini act.

Now 4-1

Pretty good battle btw. Philly & Brewers today
Brew-crew could be the NL’s 2nd seed, & it looks like they have enough pitching to be a threat.
Missed all of yesterdays game
How’d Posada look behind the plate? Can’t believe they had to use him back there, but you have to do what you have to do I guess.

My Dad wouldn't talk to me about the game until they went up 34-7
I guess he felt that was fairly jinx-safe, given it was the end of the 4th quarter.
