What is your opinion on Alex Rodriguez

Alex Rodriguez is one of the best players in baseball history. Sixth all time in career HRs, three time MVP, and numerous all star appearances. He could very well be the all-time Career HR and RBI leader if he stays healthy. But he also recives alot of critism for not being clutch or for former PED usage. Alex is my favorite player, with Teixeira being a close second. When I started playing baseball, I based my swing off of Alex's. Even though he is past his prime, he is still one of the best players in baseball. His "down" years would be most players career years. I'm just wondering what other yankee fans opinion on Alex is.

He is a large portion of Yankees fans’ favorite player. He is not in my top 5, but I definitely don’t dislike him, nor do I see any reason for anyone to have a problem with him being in their top 5.

Agreed. If you can look past the ridiculous mirror kissing and penchant for older muscular women
You’ll see a great teammate, mentor and leader. Seems like he’s always the guy trying to help out the rookies and wanting to talk strategy and baseball with anybody that will listen. He’s always one of the first guys in the dogpile when someone hits a walkoff. The cold hard facts and statistics destroy the whole “unclutch” tag that he had so that’s a non-issue for me. I’ve actually come to like him a lot because he’s awesome at every aspect of baseball, yet he’s one of the most awkward dudes on the face of the earth.

I think he plays for the other team
Last night, a comedian died in New York. Somebody knows why. Somebody knows
Yep
Like when he was tipping off opposing hitters as to what pitch was coming. Traitor.
I bet it's good to be playing again, huh?
I have to admit I wasn't much of a fan the first few years
Mainly because the mid-2000’s Yankees had so many negative aspects to them and in general they were a drag to root for. A-Rod seemed to go out of his way to say and do stupid things and to make himself a story on non-baseball related issues.
But he’s grown on me. As the Yankees have gradually surrounded him with better, more “feel-good” teammates, A-Rod’s gotten more comfortable and has actually become fun to root for. He’s a good teammate, and a good leader who goes out of his way to help the younger players. The last few years, the Yankees have clearly been A-Rod’s team and he’s done a great job taking on that responsibility.
Also like him or not, this is a player we’re all going to tell our grandkids about. I doubt that I’ll ever see a Yankee have a regular season better than 2007 or a postseason better than 2009. A-Rod’s done some special stuff on the field and we should appreciate it.

the hate is baffling
I’ve said this before, but someday people will look back on the hatred for Alex Rodriguez, and they’ll be confused. He’s got himself into some ridiculous positions, but he hasn’t done anything (looking for a big contract, cheating on his wife and dating around, even using PEDs) that a ton of other guys haven’t done. For some reason, it’s big news, and cause for spite, when A-Rod does it, yet David Ortiz (to name one guy) is filmed hugging Yankee fans to promote the Fan Cave and is the captain of the AL HR Derby team. What will our grandchildren think?

When A-Rod did this it was Bush League. But this? Just trying grit his way on base to help his team.

exactly
Some people love to get on A-Rod for the Arroyo slap. Things were going down the tubes. If he had kicked him in the groin and gotten away with it, I can’t say I’d have liked winning that way, but at least A-Rod would have done everything he could to get on base. But that’s only gritty or gutty when a Boston guy does it with a dirty helmet.

And as I’ve said before, if he was the guy who dropped the pop-up, he would’ve gotten destroyed for that. He cannot win with some people.

If A-Rod were a homegrown, small market player like this tiny man it wouldn't have been an issue...
Just once I'd like someone to call me "Sir," without adding, "You're making a scene."
Arod and Robbie are my favorite players. I don’t think Jeter is the real leader of this team anymore, it’s been Arod for a while. When Robbie struggled with men on base in 2009, it was Arod who talked to him about situational hitting. It was Alex who talked to Boone Logan, and I have to say that Logan has looked better recently, going 6 straight appearances without allowing a run. Alex seems to be the one who connects with the young Hispanic players. He is a great player, a great baseball mind, and a great leader. It’s a shame that did steroids for those few years, because I don’t think they did a whole lot for him, so he really didn’t need them. He has grown a lot since then.
So now the guys in the subway are saying Jesus is coming on October 21, 2011, but that would mean he wouldn't be on the playoff roster, let alone be eligible for it. I really don't know where these guys are getting their information from...
Great player, but he and numerous others played with
1) the help of steroids,
2) MUCH SMALLER BALLPARKS,
3) lower mounds, and
4) livelier base balls.
Move the outfield markers in Yankee Stadium to 407ft in
right center, 457ft in left center and 461ft in dead center
(with a 22ft wall), and I think Rodriguez’s HR totals
are reduced DRAMATICALLY.
no thanks
I’d prefer it if we didn’t turn Yankee Stadium into the offensive murderer that is Citifield
The fences in Citifield are not really that far away- the ball just refuses to fly through the air.
ARod- the best #13 on the Yankees since Ron Blomberg.

who the hell cares?
you can say that about 100% of MLB players in the past 30 years or more.
Last night, a comedian died in New York. Somebody knows why. Somebody knows
The pitchers back in the day also threw much slower, on average, and didn’t have the assortment of pitches guys have now. A 95 mph fastball used to be rare, but now almost everyone in the majors throws that fast.
So now the guys in the subway are saying Jesus is coming on October 21, 2011, but that would mean he wouldn't be on the playoff roster, let alone be eligible for it. I really don't know where these guys are getting their information from...
Right and it's like "ok, what else can you throw?"
I also think as the game progresses, the athletes get better too. These are much different and tougher athletes now as compared to 50 years ago. Training is completely different, science is completely different and game strategies are much more complicated.
It’s not just baseball either… every sport has evolved. It’s why wilt Chamberlain would never score 100pts in a game today, or how Babe Ruth probably wouldn’t hit 60 HRs against todays pitching. I also believe it’s why pitchers don’t pitch as often as they used to back in the days when guys when rptations were much shorter.
Ever look at the Inning Pitched recods? You wanna talk DiMaggio’s hitting streak and Ripken’s ironman streak as being untouchable? How about 680 Innings Pitched in 1879 by Will White??!! Or 622 IP by a ROOKIE Jim Devlin in 1876?! lol Holy crap! Ed Walsh threw 464 IP in 1908! The record for IP in a single game is 26 (NL – 1920) and 24 (AL 1906). Its just completely different.

Can’t stand his “ME FIRST” attitude, he’s selfish, egotiscal, jerk, he hasn’t performed in the clutch, except for 09 playoffs. wish girardi had the cojones to drop him to #5 hole & put CANO in #4, It gauls me that AROD opted out of his contract in middle of WS, which let Texas off the hook for their portion of his joke contract, then Cashman & co fork over another 10 yr deal to him & lucifer (boras). he’s starting to show signs of breaking down now & “WE” still have 6 more years of him on the books…. i cried the day we traded Soriano for him, didn’t like him then, & still don’t care for him, He doesn’t hold a candle to Mantle, Babe, Gehrig, Jeter, Yogi, Whitey, etc…Right now fav yanks, Cano, jeter, DRob, fav all time, Mickey Mantle…everyone worried about jeter’s future position, AROD will be permanently concreted into the DH role probably by 2013, maybe towards the end of his albatross contract we can unload him to the Marlins so he can go HOME

I love the dude
But he needs to take the All-Star game off. I’m sure it’s a great honor for him to be going to his 14th or whatever number it is now, but he’s clearly banged up right now. He hasn’t homered in almost a month, and it starts getting to a point where it isn’t just a power slump. Flaherty mentioned in last nights broadcast that his right knee was bothering him, and thats the knee that needs to twist and explode and drive forward while you bat. The back leg and hips are where you get your power from as a hitter. And A-Rod is having pain in at least one if not both of those areas, and also his shoulder has been bothering him recently (though maybe that one is gone).
Whatever the problem is, he’s clearly not 100%. He’s not running well (even for him), and he can’t drive the ball and get lift. He’s still getting his hits, but that comes because he has ridiculously good hand-eye coordination and he gets the barrel on the ball enough that he gets some hits. But A-Rod is a cleanup hitter who hits where he is in the order because he hits 30+ home runs every single season. I still think he’s going to get there this season, but not if he’s playing completely banged up. The strength is obviously still there- you can tell that by just looking at the guy and some of the bombs he’s hit this year (that one against Cleveland is still going I think). But the explosiveness that was there early in the season isn’t there right now. Having 3 days to completely rest would be very good for him I think.
There have been reports that he might take the ASG off but right now he’s still the guy. I hope he takes that time off, rests up and goes on a tear in the second half. If he plays, then I hope he takes it easy, still gets a good amount of rest and still goes on a tear in the second half.
Release Sergio Mitre!

his ’roid-riddled body is showing signs of breaking down. And now that Dr. Galea is a convicted felon, who is A-Rod going to call for help????

very hypocritical
when you have a fanpost that says Andy Pettitte should be seriously considered for the HOF.
I love Jeter, Alex, Mo, Cano the most.
A-Rod was never that guy people booed in my mind.
jus waggin along son
Really
or is it because he’s the hottest flavor right now after hitting the 3000 milestone?
Just ribbing ya…
I bet it's good to be playing again, huh?
lol
Who doesn’t love Jeter as a Yankee fan though?
Here’s what us Yankee fans have to look forward to for players over the next few years…
A-Rod’s 3000
A-Rod all time RBI leader
A-Rod 700 (Might not happen though his hip and knees :o)
Mariano all time saves leader
jus waggin along son
I love him
There are reasons why I won’t criticize him as freely as many here. He’s given us fans so much. I think many here aren’t as grateful as they should be. Mo seems to get that treatment but Jeter for some reason doesn’t although, and I know some disagree, he’s meant much more to the day to day, game to game success of the Yankees.
I bet it's good to be playing again, huh?
No one hates Jeter
Sorry.
And people probably like Mo more than Jeter right now because Mo is still at superstar levels.
