NICK SWISHER
On Friday, a caller on the Michael Kay show asked him what trades the Yanks should go after this trade deadline. He said they needed a left handed starter and left handed reliever because even though there first in the AL, there record with the Sox is so bad. Reason being is because its a loaded left handed line-up. Having Sabathia and Boon Logan is just not enough in order to leap over them. Then I looked at Nick Swisher, he is definitely a fan favorite not having the best season so far but has been hot as of lately. The thing is, his contract is up this year and has a option for next year for $10mm. If the Yanks pick it up, they'll have a RF turning 32 at the end of 2012. Do you see the Yanks signing him for a long term? I know this comparison sounds nuts, but Jayson Werth did sign that ridiculous contract at the same age. I'm not saying Swisher will ask for that BUT he is going to use that amount as some sort of a barometer.
I was thinking we can use this time and trade him for a Left handed reliever and go after Beltran or think long-term and go after a Delmon Young. I know he isn't the greatest outfielder but maybe putting him to right won't cause too much damage. Besides he has a cannon of an arm, he is only 25 yrs old, was in the top 10 last year in MVP voting, won't be a a FA until 2013, and I think the Twins have gone tired of him and probably found a replacement in Ben Revere. With the issue Mauer his having and not knowing if Morneau will be back to his All-Star self in first base they might be looking for a catcher. Mauer did take ground balls at first base last week. Some columnist are suggesting that for the Twins best interest because of Mauer's size, he's best suited at first base. His career will last longer and they did sign him to that long contract. You put him at first, probably move Morneau at third or the OF and get a catcher. That's were we come in, we have plethora of catcher talent that we can ship out. It might not even take a lot to get him. Also I over heard in the radio that Montero isn't hitting that well in the minors, which might compel the Yanks to ship him out soon to at least recover something before its too late.

Why is everyone trying to trade Swisher? This is like the new "Trade for teh Felix!"
So now the guys in the subway are saying Jesus is coming on October 21, 2011, but that would mean he wouldn't be on the playoff roster, let alone be eligible for it. I really don't know where these guys are getting their information from...
It seems to be mainly the folks who feel like the team needs Carlos Beltran
I guess Swish is not a ‘superstar’, and so not worthy of the pinstripes in the eyes of some. Personally, he reminds me more of the guys that won 4 titles in 5 years, and not the assortment of aging has-beens that made cameos in the years after that…

Swish and Montero for teh Felix!

I don't get the fascination over Swisher either
What has this guy done that makes him untouchable? Kanye Shrug
he's been one of the most consistent players on the team

wtf is a "Kanye shrug"?
Strikeouts are boring- Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.

Underpaid, high OBP, hits for power, switch hitter, average to above average fielder, good personality…yea horrible gimme carl Crawford and his .300 OBP
He's not terrible,
But then again, he isn’t great. I don’t understand what makes him so unexpendable.
btw he sucks in the playoffs, and it’s hard for me to believe that we cannot make the playoffs without him.
we wouldn't have made the playoffs last year without him
believe that.
Also believe that there’s not too many OFers in all of baseball that put up his production and make as little as he does. He’s one of the most cost effective players overall in all of baseball.
That’s why. All this ignorance of trading him comes up with bullshit on replacing him. Just go look at every OF in baseball with 10Hrs or more. You’d be hard pressed to find a lot of them who’ve consistently put up 25+ HRs a year like Swisher has.
That’s why. Its really, really….really annoying on why people even view him as a trade candidate. Why not trade Cano while we’re at it.

Swisher is our worst starting outfielder this year. When your worst outfielder is on pace for a 4 WAR season, you’re doing pretty well. There is no reason to trade Swisher because we wouldn’t be able to easily replace him.

There's a bad element of Yankee fans...
…who want to acquire any available player from the Mets just so that when said player performs well, they can rub it in Met fans’ faces.
This is what’s behind the “need” to trade for Carlos Beltran and K-Rod and the desire to give Jose Reyes $150 mil to play a position we already have filled.
Personally I don’t see why any Yankee fan cares one way or another about the Mets, let alone has an unhealthy obsession with me. But to each his own.

Bad move
Don’t agree with even thinking about trading Swisher.

In Rhode Island, (where Pawtucket is), Montero's play on July 3 inspired a column in the local press wondering why he is still in AAA.
I don’t know where this nonsense came from.
Swisher is an average defensive rightfielder with above- average power and the ability to run pitch counts and get walked. That’s why he hit leadoff in the absence of Jeter (and did a good job), and that’s why he’s worth keeping unless the upgrade is significant. I would exercise his option for next year at 10 million.
I have no idea why people think that the Mets are a Yankee farm team from which we can have our pick of overpriced, broken- down ‘names’ to fill our roster.

Here is what I can tell you. There is zero chance the Yankees trade Nick Swisher in 2011. There’s a 90% chance they pick up his $10.25 million option.
Andy Pettitte is coming back to pitch against the Red Sox!?!
