Yankees take game one of doubleheader, 8-3

NEW YORK, NY - JULY 30: Nick Swisher #33 of the New York Yankees celebrates hitting a 2 RBI home run in the fourth inning against the Baltimore Orioles during game one of their double header on July 30, 2011 at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx borough of New York City. In what's sure to be a long day at Yankee Stadium, New York took game one of the originally scheduled part of the doubleheader by the score of 8-3.

The scoring opened in the bottom of the third when Brett Gardner knocked home Chris Dickerson and Francisco Cervelli on a single to left field to put New York up 2-0.

After allowing back-to-back singles to open the fourth, Bartolo Colon allowed two RBI groundouts to even the score 2-2.

Nick Swisher provided the fireworks, hitting his thirteenth of the year and giving the Yankees a 4-2 lead they would never give up. Cervelli drove Eric Chavez home to extend the lead 5-2.

Chavez, Jorge Posada and Dickerson would all drive home runs on two singles and a groundout to make the game 8-2.

Colon pitched five innings, allowed two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out six. Corey Wade's only mistake in three innings of pitching was a home run to Mark Reynolds that ended the scoring.

Boone "LOOGY" Logan came on in the ninth to close the door on the win.

The Yankees and Orioles play at 7:05pm tonight in game two of the doubleheader. Game Thread will be up after Preview. I figure we'll see Rafael Soriano at some point tonight as well as Derek Jeter playing.

Glad we won the first!

Hopefully we win the second. I hear Cory Wade pitched well today.

Three fairly dominant innings

The only real blemish was the HR, as is mentioned in the recap. He’s the bullpen savior of the day. Logan almost undid it, at least as far as it goes with Mo.

Well that's good for Wade

Bad for Boone

He works so hard at maintaining his svelte playing shape, probably doesn’t have time

wow talk about an overpay
The Rangers will acquire Koji Uehara from the Orioles for Chris Davis and Tommy Hunter

I understand that Chris Davis was expendable because of Moreland and Tommy Hunter is just Tommy Hunter, but both for a middle reliever? good for the Orioles

Was it Colon's pitch count that ended his day after 5 innings?
