Game 99 Preview: A's at Yankees

After a tough loss yesterday in which the Yankees brought the tying run to third base in the bottom on the ninth, Bartolo Colon will face off against Gio Gonzalez in the rubber match of this three-game set.

Colon has struggled a bit since returning from the disabled list, but put together a nice start in his most recent outing, tossing 6.1 innings while striking out nine and giving up only two runs in a tough luck loss. Colon has faced the A's once this season, tossing a complete game shutout back on May 30th.

Gonzalez has been outstanding this season, but his 2.33 ERA may seem a bit lucky when compared to his 3.47 FIP and 3.55 xFIP. He is coming off an outstanding start against the Angels, tossing seven innings of shutout ball while striking out eight.

Gonzalez will mix in a four-seam fastball around 93 mph, a two-seamer around 92 mph, a curveball around 80 mph, and a changeup around 83 mph.

Star-divide

Yankees Lineup

Jeter (DH), Granderson, Tex, Cano, Swish, Martin, Jones, Nunez, Laird.

A's Lineup

Weeks, Crisp, Matsui, Willingham, DeJesus, Jackson, Suzuki, Pennington, Sogard.

Gio Gonzalez has shown success against many of the current Yankees, but Tex and Swish have had his number. Look for nice games from these two.

Bartolo Colon has also shown some success against the current A's, but David DeJesus and Hideki Matsui have both hit him hard. The two each have an OPS of nearly 1.000 against Colon.

No Gardner today

On the plus side, Laird gets another shot. I want to see what he can do if he’s given more chances.

At least we get Jeter today cuz its a LHer

and while I guess you can say Gardner could use a day off, it is conveniently against a LHer so the binder is still being a dumb dumb.

Go Laird.
