Trade deadline is nearing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well it is that time of year when the rumors swirl like a tornado. But this year seems different for the Yankees, more like a whirlwind. The team the Yankees field are doing well but yet in second place in the AL East, with that dreaded Boston Red Sox team leading the way.
So what do we need to catch those devils up north or to kick their butts come post season time. We need an upgrade in our Starting Rotation, DH, Lefty out of the Bullpen and someone to hold down Third Bbase (till A-Rod returns). Will we get all four? Highly unlikely in this trade market.
Starting Pitching: The only potentially available top line starter for the Yankees seem to be Ubaldo Jimenez. But Yankees must choose which arm and which leg to include in that trade. James Shields is a no go. Tampa would probable only consider trading him to a National league team. Francisco Liriano maybe be available from the Twins but most likely not till the off season. Mark Buehrle is a good choice but he will not be considered till this off season when he becomes a free agent. The Cubs have potential but anyway one looks at it, would cost way too much either by salary or prospects.Specially for what one would get in return.
Loogy reliever: No one wants to give up anyone like that. They are way too hard to find. The good lefty out of the pen seems to be something one gets as a free agent or develops in house. So dream on Yankee fans.........
DH: Carlos Beltran what else needs said. He is the best choice and with his ability to play in the outfield makes sense. The truth is he may be seen in Pinstripes, but probable not till the free agency period. So far Yankees are not willing to give up any prospects to secure his services. Still possible but to me they will wait till season is over and pursue him. I believe there is no doubt he is the best option and maybe the only option.
Third Base: Aramis Ramirez is best candidate, but what would you do with him once Alex returns. If you give him majority if his starts at third then this makes sense. The question become what would you be willing to give up? Odds are against this move. Ramirez is and would only be a rental and you would loose a good prospect or two for his services. Then there is Ty Wigginton, he would not be nothing more than a place holder till A-Rod returns. The thought of him being able to play several position would make him a good choice. Ty is signed through 2012 so his value to the Yankees multiplies.
Can Bronx Bombers kill two birds with one stone? Colorado Rockies are indeed looking like an after thought this year. Their future needs look like they need a First basement (Todd Helton getting older), Second base, Third base, Outfield and some Starting pitching. They have some strong potential prospects in the minor leagues but most seem to be a few years away from becoming ready for the big league. The good news in that is they have a good looking catcher (Wilin Rosario) who is hitting well and throwing out over 40 percent of would be base thieves. They have two left handers who rank in top fifty prospects but are along ways away. (Tyler Matzek and Christian Friedrich).
Here is a trade that would benefit all.
| COLORADO: | NEW YORK: | |||
| PLAYER | POSITION | PLAYER | POSITION | |
| Ubaldo Jimenez | SP--#1-2 | Ivan Nova | SP #2-4 | |
| Ty Wigginton | 1B, 2B, 3B & OF | Hector Noesi' | SP #3-5 | |
| Chris Nelson | SS, 2B & 3B | Adam Warren | SP #3-5 | |
| Chris Dickerson | OF | |||
| Brandon Laird | 1B, 3B & OF | |||
| Jorge Vazquez | 1B & 3B | |||
| Eduardo Nunez | SS, 2B, 3B & OF |
Brian Cashman can you throw this stone? Maybe even sweetin the pot by adding David Adams (2B) or David Phelps (SP).
Colorado are you wanting to get better or just pretending?

Truly can't get here soon enough.
It's like being a huge fan of winning, which we do, relentlessly.

At least those won't be quite as ridiculous, as most of the people posting these have no idea how the waivers work.
Just a normal soccer-loving, cricket blog-writing American.
This is actually a tough decision.
Because you’re not giving up our top level prospects like Montero or the B’s.
Though I really like Noesi I think I might pull the trigger. Wiggy and Nunez being in the deal really makes no difference. Unless the Rockies really want a younger player out of the deal. They’re getting Laird too if we’re talking about specific trades.
Of course I might look stupid here because majority doesn’t want to trade pieces away, but this trade will most likely not happen. It’s not good enough for Colorado because we’re giving them quantity not quality.
How do Nunez and Wiggy make no difference?

Nova alone vs. Ubaldo may be a wash
who says Ubaldo’s gonna dominate in the AL like he does in the NL? And we give up the third best RP in teh pen with Noesi and another pitcher in Warren who is probably as good as the other two?
Also Wiggnton sucks. Nelson is a never was. Yea……..8 days

No way Rockies make this trade
A 27 year old with a career 3.57 FIP whose pitched at Coors Field his whole career will not be traded unless it’s for top prospects (Montero/Betances/Banuelos).
The odds are much higher that Jiminez successfully transitions to the AL than any of these prospects panning out.

Jimenez pitches most of his games in the NL West
the lightest hitting division by far in baseball. The only team with a respectable lineup is the Rockies, and he plays for them.

Home: 3.67 ERA, 3.81 FIP, 3.95 xFIP, 1.31 WHIP
Away: 3.51 ERA, 3.34 FIP, 3.69 xFIP, 1.23 WHIP
Coors Field is killing him

We already have like six of these threads.
Including one that you made six days ago. Why create another?
You know what
I like the trade deadline when the Yankees actually need to make an upgrade. When thats the case I like to follow it and discuss it.
However, when they don’t need a move and people pretend like they do, then it becomes an irritating time of year. They don’t need a fucking starting pitcher! I’d be fine with only minor moves to help upgrade different spots on the bench and in the bullpen. Maybe trading for another reliever or an upgrade off the bench, but no major moves! They don’t need to make a major move.
I do agree however that the DH has become a problem. Jorge Posada is becoming an automatic out again. He can’t hit lefties for his life, and Andruw Jones is no better. However, there are in house options that could be an upgrade. They could even DH Nunez and put Laird at third until A-Rod comes back. I would only consider a trade for Beltran if the Mets truly give him to us for very little. I don’t care about picking up the salary since he’s on his last year and it’s coming off the books anyways, but I do care about prospects and I’m not giving up significant ones for an aging 2 month rental. I don’t see the Mets just dumping him somewhere and not getting anything valuable back in terms of prospects, so this is unlikely.
CALL UP JESUS MONTERO!
So, an ace starter is worth
1) A current # 6 starter
2) A current long reliever
3) A current AAA starting pitcher
4) A 5th outfielder
5) A 3b who needs more time at AAA
6) A 33 year old AAA player
7) And a guy to collect dust behind Tulo?
Nova can pitch right now in the Majors. Noesi can too, and both are useful contibutors.
Adam Warren is a decent prospect, but not the sort of guy you ask for when you trade an ace starting pitcher. Dickerson was traded for Sergio Mitre. That gives you an idea of his value. Laird is still developing and may be a starter or he may be a Ty Wiggington or he may not even get that good. Vazquez is too old to have trade value, is not that much younger than Helton and can likely be had as a minor league free agent in 3 months. Nunez never replaces Tulo, and his best value is as a shortstop.
Now, if you are the GM in Colorado, you have to explain to the owners why you handed the team’s second most important and valuable player for 2 currently useful major league pitchers, a major league utility player, a 33 year old minor leaguer who won’t make the roster until September, a pinch hitter/defensive replacement/not with the team next season OF, and maybe the 5th and 6th best prospects from the team you made the deal with. If you are the team’s GM and you make this proposal to the owner, you will be instantly demoted to hot dog vendor if you are not fired outright,
Don't forget
In addition to those seven, he’s suggesting adding in Adams and Warren to “sweetin to pot” so it’s a 9 (NY) for 3 (CO) proposed trade.
I’m not reading any more trade proposals except to read the comedy in the comments section. Is it August 1 yet?
did you even realistically think about that trade for a minute?
or did you just throw names out there that aren’t montero, banuelos, betances?
I … Just don’t know anymore
