Ubaldo Jiminez?
Rumors are flowing about the possibility of the Colorado Rockies giving up there ace, Ubaldo Jiminez.. No doubt he is one of the top 10 pitchers in the National League and in some circles in the top five. He had an outstanding year in 2010 and is 27 years old. He started the 2011 season out very slowly but has come on in his last 8 starts.
The Rockies needs seem to be for a future corner infielder, second basemen, center fielder and of course starting pitching. With no prospect in the top fifty, they need help. With 37 year old Todd Helton manning first, they need a future replacement and none seem to be in their farm system. Third and or Second are there for the taking, for any decent prospect. That is because Ty Wigginton is aging and can play one or the other for them, but for how long. Center field is a position that needs a bat, so far it has been a situation of defense over a bat, just like a second basement. So far defense has been the best option at either of these positions. The Rockies are desperate for starting pitching, with nothing nearing the major league level in the next few years.
So where and how would the Yankees match up. We are hearing that the Rockies like Jesus Montero, but would use him at first base. They have no interest in him being nothing else except for a back up catcher possible. So this reduces the value of Montero. That brings us to center field an area that a Greg Golson, Justin Maxwell or Chris Dickerson, might be a good option for the Rockies. Then we look at second base we have Corban Joseph by far better than any current option in the Rockies system. Potential starting pitching is our strong suit and would require a least one and maybe two major league talent or two and / or a future ace. We obviously have Ivan Nova, Hector Noesi, Adam Warren, Dellin Betances and Andrew Brackman. We have Eduawardo Nunez who has been a pleasant surprise at the plate this year but a disappointment in the field. But he can play 3B, 2B, SS and a corner outfield position. From watching him play, he is seems better suited for second base, because he has a tendency to wait on the ball rather than charge it. So what would it take?
My feeling are that they would mix and match from Yankees.
1. Ivan Nova
2. Eduwardo Nunez
3.Jesus Montero
4 Dellin Betances
5. Chris Dickerson
6. Hector Noesi
7. Corban Joseph
9. Justin Maxwell
10. Adam Warren
11. Andrew Brackman
12. Greg Colson
Most report confirm that they would require at least three prospect and maybe up to five. Personally I believe a package of Nunez, Nova, Laird / Dickerson and Noesi / Bellantice would get the job done.

It's going to take way more than your suggested package.
So much that it wouldn’t be worth it. So no.

Zito is available?
We have to at least try and get him.
Should you choose to test my resolve in this matter, you will be facing a finality beyond your comprehension, and you will not be counting days, or months, or years, but milleniums in a place with no doors.
At least
Zito would be cheap in prospect terms because of his ridiculous contract.

And because he's been an absolute disaster the last 5 years
Zito would be cheap in terms of prospects if he was making the league minimum.

In all fairness, the Yankees actually are said to be looking into Jimenez, so it’s not like this rumor has no validity to it.
So now the guys in the subway are saying Jesus is coming on October 21, 2011, but that would mean he wouldn't be on the playoff roster, let alone be eligible for it. I really don't know where these guys are getting their information from...

Heyman said
they want Montero, Betances, Banuelos & Nova
I say
There crazy
more like Brackman,Warren ,Romine,and Noesi
yeah right there gonna get prospects like that
Absolute No No
What Colorado want from NYY is absolute bs. Throughout recent success, NYY had home grown talent such as Bernie, Jeter, Mariano, Posada, Andy, etc. Banuelos and Betances should contribute next year and I would suggest let Montero split with Martin this year to see what he got. I know NYY starting rotation is weak compared bo Bosox, but you can’t break the bank for one guy who has not been dominant as he has been in the past.

hmmmm
maybe montero, nova, warren, golson/dickerson/maxwell, … idk how much more i’d give… but the second you get jimenez, there would NEVER be a spot on your roster for Nova, so you might as well give him away. Warren will never be good in the AL east, but could probably be useful to the rockies.
On top of that, I really dont think the yankees ever plan on starting montero. I think they prefer sanchez/romine. So the question becomes, is there a better starting pitcher we could bring in with montero, or do we use him here?
I’d prefer not to add Noesi to this mix, but if its necessary than that is another guy we could add in.
CC, Jimenez, AJ, Hughes, ?
seems like there’s a spot right there. So if by never, you mean always…I agree.
really dont think the yankees ever plan on starting montero
this is probably true. Why? Sergio Mitre.

you really think Nova will get bumped up?
they dropped him so freddy and colon can stay in the rotation, now he’s passing both of them?
And long term Nova will not beat out Banuelos and Betances… if Nova was ever in the rotation (in that scenario) it would be for a short-term holdover for the younger, better arms.
I actually really like Nova, but he’s really not in the longterm plans if they could get another ace.
Colon and Freddy have no options
so its either they stay or they get DFA’d. They’re not pitching bad enough for that. Nova has options.
Maybe this season Nova would stay where he’s at now. But next year? Obviously he’s in the rotation, tho of course given how dumb the Yankees seem to be these days that’s not a guarantee.
Long term, AJ Burnett is gone. That’s another spot. Also you can’t count on all of them panning out and also given how dumb the Yankees are, some will probably be traded.

we dont need ubaldo, he had 1 good year for colorado, we have enough pitching
we have nova and other prospects at moment, i believe in garcia and colon , and hughes was great yesterday
I agree with you about Jimenez
If they are going to bump Garcia or Colon they might as well promote Nova. He’s already proven he can pitch in NY. How many guys have they brought in that can’t handle the pressure and bombed?
I could give you a list
Jaret Wright
Carl Pavano
Ian Kennedy
Jason Giambi (somewhat)
Nick Johnson
Rafael Soriano (so far)
Randy Johnson
Damaso Marte
Scott Proctor
Phil Coke
Jaret Wright was actually good in the end, always good for 5-6IP and 3R, no more, no less
Pavano was hurt. No one knows if he couldn’t handle the pressure.
Kennedy was drafted, didn’t trade.
Giambi was very good, LOL at mentioning him.
Johnson was hurt, refer to Pavano
Soriano is hurt, refer to Pavano
Randy Johnson was old enough to fight in 2 World Wars when he was brought here..LOL at mentioning him
Marte’s been hurt.
Proctor was abused
Phil Coke was a never was.
That’s a horrible list that makes no sense.

lets try to make a good list
Chuck Knoblauch
Kevin Brown (could call it age/injury)
AJ Burnett
Javier Vazquez
thats all i can think of at the moment
Knoublach was pretty good
Kevin Brown might be one, tho he was old
Burnett’s struggles are his own, not NY.
Vazquez was good before he got hurt.

i agree and disagree
i think the “pressures of NY” thing is mostly a myth. but i also think knoblauch, burnett and vazquez are 3 decent examples of guys that were very good on other clubs and not as good on the yankees.
chuck basically had a mental breakdown, and when the light shined on it he couldnt reverse it and was never the same player. even when he was good on the yankees he was never as good as his twins days.
burnett has his own struggles that are mental… ummm… isnt that what the “pressures of ny” are supposed to be.
and vazquez owned on the braves before and after his NY stint. But that could be due to the suckiness of the NL.
either way, i think 3 out of however many acquisitions the yanks have made proves that its just random. Sometimes teams sign ppl and it doesnt work out. thats all.
Burnett had those struggles everywhere, so no its not NY
Vazquez is even worse this year in the NL. He’s still hurt. Whatever happened in ATL was obviously the last of it.
Knoublach was excellent in 98 and 99 when they won WS. Why he had a breakdown, who knows. I doubt after 2 years the pressure got to him.
No player is the same when they change cities. ITs not NY. Do you think the pressure of the Washington is getting to Jason Werth after coming from the Phillies?
Its a crock of shit. Its not NY. Its everywhere. Players change for whatever reason.

i agree
i was just listing players i thought were worse in ny than elsewhere
i do think its tougher to play in the AL than anywhere else though
you cant predict perfectly who will make it, but there is nowhere more difficult to play than NY… not because of “the pressure” but simply because the competition is better.

It's ridiculous to assume that anyone who stuggles after joining the Yankees "can't handle the pressure."
There are many, many other reasons why a player would decline/not live up to expectations.
Some of the players you listed were just poor signings who began natural declines upon joining the Yankees. Giambi was over 30 when signed and his body began breaking down for several reasons. Jaret Wright and Nick Johnson had long injury histories that the Yankees chose to ignore. Randy Johnson was 40 years old and had been pitching in the NL West for the previous 7 seasons.
Damaso Marte was a middle reliever who had been worked hard and was heading for arm problems. Still to throw the “pressure” thing out with him is insane as his best work as a Yankee came in the 2009 postseason.
Scott Proctor and Phil Coke were pitchers with zero expectations who performed reasonably well as Yankees. Ian Kennedy wasn’t given a shot.
So the only players on this list you could argue have “wilted under pressure” would be Pavano, who simply seemed not to have a desire to pitch here and Soriano, though it’s far too early to say that in his case.

i really dont think we have the pitching to win in the playoffs...
Hughes is encouraging, and that could help, but I would never want to start colon or garcia in a playoff series. So our current playoff rotation is a 3 man rotation of CC, AJ and Hughes… maybe sprinkle in Nova once or twice. Thats not gonna do it against boston and philly.
obviously you dont mortgage your entire teams future for 1 guy, but if you can make something happen, a quality (ace type) arm really is our biggest need. well… that and a reliever who can get out lefties.
Colon would be in the rotation
his injury right now is a ?, but he’d be in there and just as capable as anyone not named CC. And yea, that’ll be fine against any team in baseball. The Yankees have good hitters too.

i dont trust him in the playoffs...
what colon and garcia have done this season is phenomenal, and we wouldnt be as close to boston without them, but I really dont trust them in the playoffs. On top of that, i don’t think either will have the stamina/durability to still be going strong in october.
yeah, the yankees can hit, but lester, beckett, lee and halladay always shut us down… and bostons offense is just as good as ours. As currently constructed it would take a lot of luck for us to beat either of those teams in the playoffs.
so you'd trust Jimenez over them?
very interesting.
Last night, a comedian died in New York. Somebody knows why. Somebody knows
ummm.... yeah
i trust the young (but not inexperienced), often dominant pitcher over two aging veterans, one who has passed his innings totals since the mid 2000’s, and the other who seems to be on the edge of giving up 6 runs every single inning against the mediocre AL lineups.
i guess if you see jimenez as burnett 2.0… then i can see your point. I’d still prefer kershaw or felix, but they dont seem to be available. And i dont want to give up either banuelos or betances to get jimenez…. so it probably would never happen.
Ubaldo Jimenez
this one time he threw… like… 100 mph. The yankees should trade for him because he would strike out everyone and He can probably beat boston, yeah the same team that has beaten the yankees so many times this year. 28 here we come if we get ubaldo. hes just too good and this opportunity is realy huge and it would be a bargain for new york.

Hard to deny that it wouldn't be exciting to have Jimenez in our rotation!
Of course there would be a spot for him and he would still be amazingly affordable for 2 years…
That said, if it means giving up the farm for him, well, I don’t know about that. I grow convinced Montero is trade bait and I think the Rockies are certainly gonna undersell the value of Montero in a trade. Helton isn’t gonna be around much longer and putting Montero at 1st base seems to be an ideal cheap fit. Hell, I like Nova too, but I’m not gonna hold up this trade because of him. My concerns are Banuelos and Betances. To a lesser point Nunez. The Yankees are entering a stage where we are gonna need to transition our stars like Jeter and ARod and Rivera to backseat roles. Nunez looks fairly promising for that help. The B’s look to be great additions to our rotation soon too.
So yeah, in all… sure, get Jimenez if we can do it without mortaging ALL of our best prospects.

The latest report I’ve heard on this is that the Rockies want three of Banuelos, Betances, Montero, or Nova. The Yankees, thankfully, are hesitant to even give up two of them, so hopefully this doesn’t happen.
So now the guys in the subway are saying Jesus is coming on October 21, 2011, but that would mean he wouldn't be on the playoff roster, let alone be eligible for it. I really don't know where these guys are getting their information from...
