New York Yankees 4 - Toronto Blue Jays 1
Mood Music - One Big Holiday by My Morning Jacket
CC Sabathia is starting to make it look way too easy. With another dominant outing (8 IP - 1 ER), the hefty lefty put the Yankees on his back yet again. He has now given up two runs in his last five starts, spanning 39.2 innings.
Offensively, the Yankees were able to build up the pitch count of Toronto starter Ricky Romero, chasing him from the game after only five innings. Brett Gardner continued his hot hitting with a 3-4 night, Derek Jeter hit two singles, and Andruw Jones will now be platooned to only appear in games against the Blue Jays.
In the ninth inning, Mariano Rivera locked down his 23rd save of the season, but a few bloop singles and long at bats forced him into throwing 28 pitches. Every time that he has to throw that many pitches in an inning, I get terrified that his 41 year old body will wake up sore and we'll see more of Boone Logan and Luis Ayala in big spots.
Hopefully The Great Rivera got lots of rest over the All Star Break. I have a feeling he's going to need it.
Play of the Game: Sabathia announced as today's starting pitcher.

The first letter in each line spells out "Mofm"
I think that makes it pretty obvious where it is.

Montero is 1-3 with a 300 foot single and two seven-pitch walks. He now has nine walks in his last thirteen games, has his BB% back up near his career rate, and has been a ton more patient and selective at the plate. Huge second half coming.
