Joba Chamberlain Out At Least Three Weeks

Photo

He strained his flexor muscle (in the right elbow) after a 35-pitch outing on Sunday, and he won't even start throwing for 10-14 days. Amaury Sanit will take his roster spot.

Russell Martin's back "locked up," so Frankie will catch tonight.

- Mark Teixeira is in the lineup.

- Eric Chavez was placed on the 60-day DL. Well, that didn't take long.

Hector Noesi was sent down to Scranton to make room for Jeffrey Marquez (when did he come back?) on the 25-man roster. Update: So Marquez was claimed off waivers from the White Sox today. FYI, Marquez was part of the package that was sent to Chicago for Nick Swisher.

Martin's out?

We need to call up a middle reliever!

I knew that Yankees2 and Frankie had something special, but I never knew that Frankie was the catcher.

Why is that a what comment?

He’ll be back, but he just went 6 innings in relief yesterday, so they need to get a fresh arm out there.

What does bother me is, if the Yankees knew Posada would be gone today, and having placed Joba on the DL, why are there only 2 bench players in the Bronx tonight? Can’t they call someone up to take Joba’s spot?

by Branta on Jun 8, 2011 4:42 PM EDT reply actions

It was more about Jeff Marquez

I didn’t know he was back with the organization.

And really not a whole one at that.

I hear Martin will need “a few days”, so if Cervelli gets hurt, we’re screwed.

by WhatwouldJeterdo on Jun 8, 2011 4:49 PM EDT up reply actions

And even if he doesn’t get hurt, he’s still Francisco Cervelli, so we can look forward to some 0-4s and some balls sailing into center field.

He’s not with the team (his son is in surgery) and even if he was, he’s not going to catch at all this year for health reasons.

by Lord Duggan on Jun 8, 2011 5:17 PM EDT up reply actions

Well right now Posada isn’t even with the team. In the future Posada is definitely not supposed to catch. Ever. Serious medical issue, not just something the Yankees say.

I didn't know he wasn't with the team

I thought the medical thing was not being able to catch regularly- but I still thought he could be an emergency catcher if needed. Oh well.

I’m guessing Eduardo would be the “emergency” catcher then.

Sanit is garbage, in AAA. We should at least call up Wordekemper or Kontos.

Yes, that is Kyle Kuric

by TheRealSlimShady on Jun 8, 2011 4:50 PM EDT reply actions

None on the 40 man

And we wouldn’t want to lose the immortal Anuary Sanit to some other team

by Briceratops on Jun 8, 2011 4:55 PM EDT up reply actions

Marquez wasn’t on the 40 man either, but they made room for him with Joba hitting the DL. That spot should have gone to Whelan.

by Lord Duggan on Jun 8, 2011 4:57 PM EDT up reply actions

They put him on the 60-day DL?

Hmm, you’re right. They got Marquez on the 40 man somehow. However they did that, they should have done for Whelan.

Looks like the Yankees placed Eric Chavez on the 60-day. That’s how they cleared a 40-man spot for Jeff Marquez.

So let me get this straight...

Noesi is getting sent down in exchange for someone who the White Sox just DFA’d? Was it that he didn’t walk enough people last night? Maybe because he didn’t make Joe West cry big crocodile tears by taking 35 minutes in each half-inning?

This had better just be a stopgap since he wont be available for a few days.

And that Robertson gets his walks under control. And, I suppose, that Soriano’s elbow heals quick.

So, I guess I'm assuming

that the reason they brought in Marquez was so they could then shuffle him back out after a game or two, with no regard to whether he remains on the 40-man, or is DFA’d, or goes on waivers or whatever. I am further guessing that when he is gone, he will be replaced by someone equally memorable.
