New York Yankee News: Jeter, Hughes and a Debut
Derek Jeter is on the DL, and it's the right move.
Remember last year when Jimmy Rollins hit the DL with a calf injury? He rushed back, and 3 days later reinjured the calf.
In the meantime, we'll see if Ramiro Pena's slick glove and dead bat can cover for the Captain.
Jeter is the tenth Yankee on the DL, joining Phil Hughes, Bartolo Colon, Joba Chamberlain, Eric Chavez, and a bunch of left handed relievers.
Hughes said Tuesday there were three criteria under which he would evaluate himself -- ability to throw strikes, physical well-being and velocity -- and labeled the outing a success.
He topped the radar gun at 93 mph, and hovered in the low-90s throughout his outing.
Hughes will start Sunday for Staten Island. It'll be one of the main topics of the day, so check back with us often.
If you're a Paul McCartney fan, he's added another concert to his Yankee Stadium Debut in July.
I hate this. The boxing match last year damaged the field pretty badly, and this figures to be as bad or worse. Remember when the Dropkick Murphy's performed in season at Fenway and left a deadspot that lasted into the playoffs? The offseason is one thing, but during the season, only baseball should happen at Yankee Stadium.

Ouch
Soriano’s fallen so far that he’s not even mention in the DL posse.
Also I feel like the relievers on the DL should form a band. Could be a nice troupe called “Dollars to Flames.”
Unless you're a pitcher or Gustavo Molina, kindly SWING THE BAT and ignore the Binder's bunt signal.

Concerts
You think the McCartney concert will be bad?
Wait until The Big 4 show up in mid September. That field is going to be so destroyed……shocked the Yanks would book that show during the season (especially LATE in the season, when the damage could very well carry over into any potential playoff games).
Agreed

Thank you for saying this, I thought I was the only one that felt this way. I really hate anything but baseball being played at Yankee Stadium.

If you don't love David Robertson and Brett Gardner I don't love you.
Agreed as well. Dead spot from the boxing match was a pain to look at all last year from the bleachers.

It hurts both teams equally probably but the Yankees are at home more of course so it will hurt them in more games.

Don’t need a Mantle-esque tweak of the knee in the outfield. Although that was a drain that he stepped on.

looks like the Angels are looking to release Scot Kazmir pretty soon
I wouldn’t be surprised if the Yankees pick up his sorry ass now too
I’m going to the first Paul McCartney show, and I’m really looking forward to it.

You go through The Sporting News for the last 100 years, and you will find two things are always true. You never have enough pitching, and nobody ever made money.
