Bartolo Colon to the Disabled List
According to the New York Times, Bartolo Colon will be placed on the disabled list today with a strained left hamstring. Colon suffered the injury while covering first base on a ground ball to Mark Teixeira during the seventh inning of his shutout bid. Hopefully, Colon will only miss the obligatory 15 days and will rejoin the Yankees later this month. However, hamstrings can be very tricky, and timetables vary depending on the severity of the injury.
Colon was in the midst of a renaissance season, and has been everything the Yankees could have hoped for and more. With Colon likely out for at least three starts, the Yankees will need to figure out who will replace him.
Hector Noesi, David Phelps, and Adam Warren are most likely the lead candidates to take Colon's spot in the rotation while he recovers. All three were profiled here on Pinstripe Alley. Here is a link to Noesi's profile, Phelps' profile, and Warren's profile.
While Colon is on the DL, I sincerely hope the Yankees will stick to the plan of treating Phil Hughes like he is going through a second spring training. The last thing the Yankees need is for Hughes to rush back and aggravate his shoulder once again.
Bartolo, come back strong and healthy. This rotation needs you.
Update: Kevin Davidoff thinks it will be David Phelps in the rotation, with Hector Noesi going to the bullpen.
Update 2: Hector Noesi is getting called up today. He will replace Amauri Sanit, who has an elbow issue, in the bullpen. However, that does not mean Noesi will stay in the bullpen. The Yanks could still call up another reliever and insert Noesi into the rotation.
Update 3: Bartolo Colon's MRI came back "good."

I vote Phelps. I love how Noesi pitched, but I want Phelps and Noesi in the MLB. That being said, I don’t want to see Phelps placed in the bullpen, so since Noesi is already there, just leave Noesi as the long man and Phelps as the starter. Worst case scenario just switch the two. I definitely think both should be on the roster, and to be honest I’m not totally against the two roles being swapped.

This.
Also I bet I can guess who voted for Warren…

one positive
Atleast now Colon will be on the DL during the NL games and won’t have to hit. That could’ve been ugly. As for the new starter, let Phelps take it and keep Noesi in the bull pen where he has seemed comfortable, he’s the only long man in there right now anyway.
I'd like to see Noesi take the rotation spot
the same way Colon did. He showed that he can handle pressure by his ML debut, (4 scoreless innings in a 1-1 extra inning game) and tried to salvage Garcia’s mess by pitching 6 innings of 2-run ball. Just like Colon, I’d have to say he’s more than earned the chance to start. If it doesn’t work out, no big, just put him back in the bullpen and give Phelps a shot.

I voted for Phelps
Goff is a f%^#ing BEAST mutherf*$*r!!!
I don't get why everyone wants Phelps.
I voted for Adam Warren. He looks to a higher upside as a potential #3 starter type. Plus he has has better overall stuff. Phelps on the other hand looks like to me either a 5th starter or a guy that you put into a trade as a throw in.
Phelps is no slouch, and he’s outperforming Warren at the same level right now. It would be kind of hard to justify taking Warren over Phelps.
Also, Phelps has 146 IP at AAA. Warren has only 74.
More experience and better numbers generally lead to call ups.

I like Warren as much as the next guy, especially after the way he pitched at AA last year. He looked like a top prospect: a 2.56 FIP and a K/9 approaching 10 at AA will turn heads.
But right now, its Phelps.

we're not worried about potential
Phelps is closer to the bigs and deserves it more and has less chances of embarrassing the organization.

I got a question for you:
What the hell is your problem? You always come on here and comment on saying that a player will or won’t embarass the organization. Why do you always say that dumb crap that? No ever said a player is an embarassment to the organization or is embarassing the organization. What people can’t have different opinions here? Just people because someone has a differing opinion on who should fill Colon spot doesn’t mean you should question whether the kid will be embarassing the team. As long as who ever is performs well that all that matters. So just stop with this whole embarassing the organization crap because no cares about that.
So what if I don’t want to see David Phelps? From what I have heard about Phelps, he sounds like another Darrell Rasner or Dustin Moseley type pitcher but we may see if I’m right about that. I would personally rather see Adam Warren. He has a higher upside then Phelps and is a kid that can actually help us long term.

I don’t know where you’re hearing the dramatic differences between the two. They seem to be about the same caliber pitcher.
Unless you're a pitcher or Gustavo Molina, kindly SWING THE BAT and ignore the Binder's bunt signal.
No their not.
If you did a list of the top 10 prospects of the Yankees right now Warren would be 8 or 9 but Phelps wouldn’t make the list or be in consideration for it. Atleast Warren has low-to-mid 90’s velocity and has jump through the minors quickly. As for Phelps from every scouting report I have read on him it sounds like he just a guy that throws 4 pitches but nothing that will blow anyone away. Thats why I think he is just another Rasner or Moseley. He really doesn’t seem like anything to brag about.

They have a not? Cool!
But in all seriousness, Frankie Camp did an excellent interview with the Yanks’ AAA beat writer the other day, and I feel like I can trust his opinion since he sees them ALL the time. He even says they’re about the same pitcher. PSA’s rankings had Warren 9 and Phelps 11 btw. Not that far off…

Read the interview I did with Donnie Collins. They’re pretty much the same pitcher.

Well, then let me be the first to say
The following have been embarrassing to the organization:
AJ
Cervelli
Mssrs. Everyone left in the pen right now except Mo
Posada’s BA4aDH
The Boston Red Sox, and, of course…
Cliff Lee
that's embarassing
and no one cares if you don’t want to see Phelps. I dunno where you’ve heard that a guy throwing 92-95 with good command of his 2 fastballs and breaking stuff is anywhere near the same caliber of Rasner or Moseley…but well, that’s embarrassing, just like your CHOP BS from last year.
Last night, a comedian died in New York. Somebody knows why. Somebody knows
Oh so are back to this crap again.
So what if I hated the fact that Park was on the team. Get over it. I was right, he sucked. That was last year and has no weight on my opinion of a player for this year.
Besides where the hell do you come up with Phelps throwing 92-95? Donnie Collins said he throws 91-93 but I don’t know how to take his option on Phelps cause he is a bit bias toward him. If you asked Collins he would probably rather watch Phelps than one of the 2 Killer B’s.
Park was on the team for like 5 seconds. He didn't make the horrible impact you try to say he did.
And now we can’t accept the word of someone who watches Phelps and Warren day in and day out because he’s biased? He’s biased because he thought that Phelps was better and more ready? Really?

He's up - so lets just watch and give him a chance.
What I saw today was a kid throwing hard but straight – aided by an ump that wanted to get back to the hotel asap.. Maybe that’ll be enough for awhile. The other night our other “Scranton Savior” walked more guys than Rick Ankiel — but we might as well let that develop too.
If Sux keep looking like the ’98 Yanks this just might be the best time to experiment.
Phelps throws 92-95 based on the radar gun

I'd give all of them some starts
throw ’em against the wall and see which ones stick.
I bet it's good to be playing again, huh?
I voted Noesi
He has already had a start essentially when he tried to save Garcia’s mess. He pitched 6 innings of 2 run ball. If we can get that from him for three starts, which I think we can, we would be more than capable of getting through a 15 Day DL stint from Colon. Also, if he pitches well enough, he could move Garcia out of the rotation.

He's had one bad start
Yea it was awful and maybe his good luck is running out, but he’s done a nice job before this start (regardless of the way it’s happened), and taking him out of the rotation doesn’t make much sense.
However, all the stats say that the Boston start was only the beginning, so if he starts sucking for 2-3 more starts then it’s time to make a move. But the way he’s pitched so far this year, I’d give him a few more opportunities to get back on track.

Phelps definitely
Noesi to the bullpen. Phelps is closer to the big league level than Warren is and is outperforming him right now, and has more experience. I really like Noesi coming out of the bullpen- I think he’s done really well out of there. And the Yankees definitely need some help there.
