Who Should Round Out the Yankees Rotation?

Ivan Nova was unable to finish even four innings of work Saturday night, giving his critics more legitimacy. David Phelps and Adam Warren have both pitched outstanding lately, giving their fans more legitimacy. This combination is not a good one for Nova, who is hanging on to a rotation spot.

So, Yankees fans, who are your choices to round out the Yankees rotation after Sabathia, Burnett, and Colon?

The candidates:

Freddy Garcia: 49.2 IP, 3-4, 3.26 ERA, 36 K's, 17 BB's, 1.29 WHIP, .247 BAA, 7 HR allowed, 4.37 FIP, 4.50 K/9, 4.00 BB/9, 0.67 HR/9, 67.2 LOB%, 54.2 GB%, 8.0 VORP.

Ivan Nova: 54 IP, 4-3, 4.67 ERA, 27 K's, 24 BB's, 1.59 WHIP, .283 BAA, 4 HR allowed, 4.44 FIP, 6.52 K/9, 3.08 BB/9, 1.27 HR/9, 83.5 LOB%, 33.3 GB %, 7.6 VORP

David Phelps: (in AAA Scranton, not including last night start) 53.2 IP, 3-4, 3.35 ERA, 46 K's, 15 BB's, 1.29 WHIP, .269 BAA, 5 HR allowed, 3.76 FIP, 7.71 K/9, 2.52 BB/9, 0.84 HR/9, 77.3 LOB%, No data for GB%, VORP.

Adam Warren (in AAA Scranton) 53 IP, 3-1, 3.57 ERA, 31 K's, 25 BB's, 1.42 WHIP, .251 BAA, 6 HR allowed, 4.92 FIP, 5.26 K/9, 4.25 BB/9, 1.02 HR/9, 75.1 LOB %, No data for GB%, VORP.

At first glance Garcia has the best numbers, but he has had great luck. Ivan Nova has struggled with his command at times, but has shown the ability to work through his rough starts.

When I asked AAA beat writer Donnie Collins if Phelps and Warren are ready for the MLB, he said that "Phelps is close if not ready, and Warren is not ready."

Personally, I vote for Garcia and Phelps. Hopefully Garcia's good luck can continue, and Nova could use some time in AAA to fix any minor problems he may have. With Nova struggling, it seems like the perfect time to test Phelps in the MLB.

The "other" category could be Carlos Silva, who was recently signed to a minor league contract and has an opt out clause in mid-June, and/or Hector Noesi, who is currently in the Yankees bullpen.

I know WWJD wants Adam Warren in the rotation. Who do you want? Vote in the poll!
