Yankees Blow Out Orioles 13-2

Mood Music - Hey Joe by Jimi Hendrix

Well, the only thing in question in this one was whether the rain would hold off long enough for it to be a complete game.  After a rain delay pushed back the start, the Yankees jumped all over Orioles starter Brad Bergesen for five runs in the top of the first inning, fueled by extra base hits from Derek Jeter, Curtis Granderson, and Nick Swisher.

That would prove to be more than enough for CC Sabathia, who was in control all night, throwing eight shutout innings. The Yankees did manage to pile on some insurance runs, highlighted by home runs by Mark Teixeira and Eduardo Nunez.  Amauri Sanit made the 9th inning an adventure, but nobody died.

After sweeping this short set with the Orioles, the Yankees will now head home to host the Mets.

Play of the game: Nick Swisher's bases clearing double in the first inning.

Comment of the Game: NYR #35 Richter for providing some comic relief.

more like mop up guys in the pen. You need a 4th outfielder

Which is why Dickerson is on the roster. They don’t need both of them

Dickerson should be hitting the 7 day DL

Supposedly they confirmed he has a concussion today

by waw on May 19, 2011 11:32 PM EDT up reply actions

by david d on May 19, 2011 11:30 PM EDT up reply actions

why get rid of Jones?

He has a good bat and great defense. Dickerson can be sent down and brought up later

by jetanumba2 on May 19, 2011 11:32 PM EDT up reply actions

That’s a stretch. Regardless, he’s not producing much when he does play and Dickerson looks like he can.

I bet it's good to be playing again, huh?

Dickerson is playing much harder

He can go all night long!

And he can drill the ball down the line

by I'mGivingYouARaise on May 19, 2011 11:41 PM EDT up reply actions

Good point about the count

He usually manages to get at least two balls deep…

by waw on May 19, 2011 11:42 PM EDT up reply actions

Great defense?

That used to be the case. But he’s out of shape and the Gold Glove defense has all but vanished. I’d rather have Dickerson, Maxwell or Chato over Jones to be honest

I hear tell of a Highlanders game today

I saw a guy in the subway holding a pamphlet that said Jesus was coming on May 21, 2011. I don't think it will be that early, he would still qualify as a super two, so they need to wait until June to delay his arbitration clock.
