In case you didn't notice, the Yankees DFA'd Kevin Russo, and picked up Jess Todd on waivers recently.
Terez A. Paylor writes that Melky Cabrera is looking forward to his return to the Bronx.
"I really don’t know how they’ll treat me because this is the first time I’ll be back," Cabrera said though an interpreter, catcher Brayan Peña. "But I hope the fans appreciate what I did for them out there and the way I played. I hope it will be a good (response)."
Cabrera, 26, made the statement with a sly grin, as if he knew it was a long shot. In his final season in New York, he hit .274 with a .336 on-base percentage, 13 home runs and 68 RBI.
Moshe Mandel warns Yankees fans about over thinking Jorge Posada's slow start, using David Ortiz as an example.
The Captain's Blog takes a look at the correlation between home runs and double plays.
Carlos Silva pitched four scoreless innings in his second minor league appearance in Class A-Tampa.
Wally Matthews examines Alex Rodriguez' slump.

-Favorite post-2000 movie? (Trying to stock up the queue)-How insane are these videos? I for one love the sound of violins, and guitars, which is why one of my favorite bands is Yellowcard. Know of any bands that use violins in a lot of their songs? Let me know!
-What instrument that is not often used in rock songs would you like to hear more of? Mayonnaise is not an instrument.
-What should the next Baseball Courtroom question be? (It won't be around until after the 22nd, I won't be around all of next week.)

lolz u r 2 dum
You could probably make a pretty good Baseball Courtroom regarding whether you would rather have a hitter’s park or a pitcher’s park maybe? Weigh those pros and cons..
My favorite post-2000 movie is probably Garden State. You might have seen it though, so other ones kind of under the radar that I’ve liked since 2000 include Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, The Invention of Lying, and 500 Days of Summer. That’ll keep you occupied for awhile…
Violins are awesome. Violinists even more awesome. Female violinists are most awesome.
Unless you're a pitcher or Gustavo Molina, kindly SWING THE BAT and ignore the Binder's bunt signal.

that beltran thing is interesting
but if the price is a top prospect we should laugh at them it would have to be like the berkman thing, a salary dump.
Posada ain't Ortiz
he’s just not used to the DH thing. Sloppy is used to sitting on his arse for a while and then getting himself ready to hit. Posada’s not used to staring out into space for a while and then trying to hit, or at least he’s not used to doing that without his catching gear on.
Wallace Matthews should probably examine the inside of a medicine cabinet and ingest all of it.
What the hell would we need Carlos Beltran for? Our OF is stacked and he’s a Mets merc. Don’t need any Los Mets on this team.
I’d like to hear more anus in music. The fart is not used enough in music IMO. Perhaps the sound of dung splashing in the water as the drums?

Melky should get a decent hand from the crowd tonight. I wouldn’t say he was key in the Yankees run at a championship… but he fueled many a comeback and was a decent outfielder with a hell of an arm.
Couple of random, but great post-2000 movies: The Departed, American Gangster, Catch Me If You Can, The Hurt Locker
"Nature never intended for you to survive here. But this fall, nature isn't the only thing to fear." September 10, 2011. Alabama vs. Penn State. White House.
favorite post-2000 movie?
my top 3 is Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Dark Knight and Inception.
El Chato had 2 more homers yesterday...
Probably beating a dead horse… but I don’t understand why the Yanks don’t seem to believe in him. He’s clearly not suited for AAA anymore. I mean the only fault I can find in his offense is that his OBP is only .321, but he is also slugging .583 with 11 homers. Of course that being said, Justin Maxwell is slugging .629 with 12 homers… I don’t know what to think.
Unless you're a pitcher or Gustavo Molina, kindly SWING THE BAT and ignore the Binder's bunt signal.
Give the guy a shot
He’s not really a prospect so if they want to at least build trade value he needs to prove he can play in the majors before they think they can trade him. Prospects lose their value if they’re brought up then traded, Vazquez can only improve because there are already no expectations and if he fails, the Yankees don’t really lose a blue chip prospect.
1. ARod will hit. 2. Posada will hit. 3. Gardner> Beltran.
3. Gardner’s offensive numbers will only improve. He is a better defender than Beltran at any outfield position. Beltran will get hurt again. We already have enough bad Met karma courtesy of Feliciano.
I liked the Captain’s Blog. (The title makes me want to order seafood). It probably wouldn’t hurt the Yankees to run a bit more, or at least hit- and- run. One thing he left out of his analysis is how much the Yankees walk. Having a lot of runners on first base helps turn grounders into double plays.
The Hurt Locker is the best movie I have seen in a long time, although you could waste your time in worse ways than sitting through Casino Royale again.
by designatedquitter on May 10, 2011 9:38 AM EDT reply actions
blasphemy, Casino Royale was the best Bond movie since Goldeneye, and I think it was better than that.
also I found the Hurt Locker incredibly overrated and a drag. so I guess different strokes for different folks.
Unless you're a pitcher or Gustavo Molina, kindly SWING THE BAT and ignore the Binder's bunt signal.
Casino Royale is the best Bond movie
I’ve had a few years to reflect on it and I’m comfortable saying that. And I am a diehard Bond fanatic…I own every movie.
I dispense B.S. and facts. It is up to you to figure out which is which.
Watched it again on TV two days ago. Daniel Craig nails the role in that movie. It’s the perfect blend of action and Bond-finesse. Quantum of Solace was a pretty terrible Bond flick.

Eh..as Bond movies go Quantum wasn't terrible
There have been a lot of awful ones. Quantum was just another Bond movie with explosions, a weakish climax and little plot. Middle of the road.

Quantum was fine
Just the opening song sucked. Those two should never be allowed to sing a duet

I felt there was no sassy-Bond types of moments in Quantum. Granted, I haven’t watched it since it came out in theaters way back in 08 or 09. Obviously didn’t make a lasting impression if I only remember explosions.

There were quite a few
Don’t get me wrong, Quantum was very action packed. Most Bond flicks reserve only one kind of vehicle chase, whether land, sea, or air, and this movie puts all three in. However, there were great scenes and it’s not like it was confusing like say Transformers 2.

The 1st Transformers is enjoyable, but not that good of a movie. The 2nd one is downright unwatchable in its levels of inept suckitude.

I didn't watch the 2nd one.
I knew it was going to be a mess.
To the asshat that hit me: thanks for the broken arm. ...Fucker.
First things first: Posada. He’s been the biggest disappointment so far this season. We’ve passed the 30 game mark in the season, and well, Posada’s stats speak for themselves: 15-99 (.152), .257 OBP, .354 SLG%. Now, he does have more HR than A-Rod, which is another story, but I was optimistic that he would adapt to the DH role and have a strong, healthy season, perhaps his swan song. The problem is, if Eric Chavez was healthy, he could give A-Rod and/or Jeter day[s] off in the field, as they could DH and give Posada a few days off. There is no option right now. Jorge is going to have to play through this. If not, he might be done.
A-Rod’s slump is the typical slump he always deals with. Lots of ground balls, he develops bad mechanical habits and seems to miss every fastball down the middle. I am not personally worried about him, although it is frustrating, because he came out of camp so strong, and even hinted that he thought he could eclipse the 50 HR plateau this season. Well, he’s gotten 10% of 50, but it’s taken him 32 games to do so, which is about 20% of the season. But hey, who’s to say he won’t have another April ’07 at some point?

Baseball courtoom: Is Tony Gwynn or Ichiro a better hitter?
That was a debate that came up a while back, someone suggested it would be a good BBCR topic. There are a lot of matchups like that that could make for interesting debate.
"Game's the same, just got more fierce." ~ Slim Charles
Not that big of a debate
It’s Tony Gwynn. He has better numbers across the board for his career, and if you only take the numbers from age 29 on (when Ichiro came to the MLB) the difference is even more pronounced.
I dispense B.S. and facts. It is up to you to figure out which is which.
Lots of folks were arguing otherwise

Let's see...
King’s Speech was terrific. So was The Social Network. Can’t go wrong with either of the new Batman movies or the new Star Trek. Slightly less common movies that I’ve liked include 500 Days of Summer, Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist, and Walk The Line (which is honest to God my favorite movie of all time, ahead of even the Godfather…though I know I’m in the minority there by a huge margin).

rec for everything by Pixar
They have yet to make a bad movie. People say Cars sucks because it’s merely a good movie compared to the legitimately terrific films Pixar normally spits out.
