Game 19 Preview: Chicago White Sox at New York Yankees
UPDATE: Phil Hughes' time on the DL may be for longer than we thought, as Hughes suffered a setback in his bullpen session today.
Hughes had significant setback today. Arm didn't bounce back well during bullpen session. He's meeting with doctors.
Hughes: "deadness. Almost the same feeling as before...it's something I'm worried about."
From what it sounds like, this has a large chance of becoming a long term DL stint.

For you out-of-towners, the game is on ESPN.

Still debating whether I want to go tonight. Two are my friends are going and sitting in grandstands. I can a tix and join them for $4.50 + $10 stubhub fees.

I always go if I have the chance. Figure I’ll regret not going more than going.

I know I’m spoiled for living so close to YS compared to the rest of you. Have a bunch of things to do tonight such as paying bills, listing stuff on eBay, commenting in PSA game thread, etc.

Hughes just pitched too many innings last season
Amazing how the franchise completely botched two terrific young arms in Joba and Hughes. Both may rebound to have decent to good careers, but this team sure put them in a tough spot right off the bat.

Colon and Garcia are looking great
don’t rush it, take as long as it needs to get this straight for good. nobody wants a band-aid on it.

They are sending Baby Jesus for an MRI to make sure nothing is really wrong with his man parts.
Hopefully he gets back to raking soon.

Per LoHud
Phil Hughes’ bullpen did not go well this afternoon. He’ll now see a doctor to make sure there’s nothing physically wrong.
"Not good," Joe Girardi said. "It just didn’t bounce back like we thought it would."
Hughes had to cut the session short. He said it felt the same as his first fee starts when there just wasn’t much behind his pitches. Like "there was nothing there" according to Girardi.
"Every step we had taken had been positive up to this point," Girardi said.
Hughes once again indicated there was no pain, just a lifeless feeling.
is this similar to Scott Kazmir
or are they apples n oranges?
re: Hughes
not good. but an injury might just be a real reason behind the lower velocity. in a way, at least we’ll know there’s a reason for it rather than thinking, “This is what Hughes is now.”
the innings jump from ‘09-’10 may certainly have contributed. he had an ~80 ip increase. but how would the fans and MSM reacted if they implemented “Hughes Rules”? remember the hub-bub with the Joba Rules?
so when/if they limit Manny’s innings in ‘12, please don’t fuss about it.
The problem with the Joba rules
was how stupidly they were implemented. When you limit innings, you shut them down when they reach the innings limit. Not what they did with Joba…messing with his head giving him 3 inning starts, then starting him every tenth day when the former didn’t work. Joba was on a bit of a tear when the Joba rules began to be implemented and has not been the same since.

Dammit
and I can’t watch tonights game either, unfortunately. i’m keeping my fingers crossed with Hughes. I hope it’s not too bad.
Lets go A.J.!
