What are Yankees going to do?
Phil Hughes is currently on the mend. Kevin Millwood is nearing decision time. Carlos Silva is ready to start his possible return to the majors. Then there is Francisco Cervelli fast approaching a return to the back-up catcher's role he seems to thrive at. Remember that guy Mark Prior.
I think all in all this is a good thing for the Yankees. I could easily see the Yankees put Hughes back to the pen and be ready to return to the rotation, once his arm strength show positive signs of recovery. This would allow Yankees to have that arm ready to go if anyone is injured or falters. Then again he may return to take Ivan Nova's spot in the rotation.
Time for Millwood to replace or at least dislodge Ivan Nova from the rotation and make Ivan our long reliever. Millwood is showing signs of being ready to return to the majors any day. A lot depends on Nova's next start. He could end up back in the minors or in the pen where he does not seem to thrive. Time to see just what Millwood can bring to the table.
Carlos Siva is basically re-doing his spring training. Supposedly, he is losing weight and building more over all body strength. Could it be true that a slimmer and trimmer Sliva is on his way. He would be a better addition to the bullpen than Lance Pendleton. But, he is obviously about two to three weeks away from that decision. So far all indication are that he is progressing nicely. This is easy to say till he faces a live game situation. The only true concern with this signing is how will he blend in with the Yankee club house.
Cervelli is doing his rehab work. He is getting in as many at bats as possible before he gets the nod to return to the Yankees. With this 16 games in 16 days looming, he is needed sooner than later. So far all is going as planned and he could be back this week. Potentially he could be in the line-up by mid-week.
Prior is currently on the disable list, with a leg issue. He was showing strong signs of becoming a force out of the pen. He maybe the best option for the Yankees, in the future if anyone in the bullpen goes down to an injury or simply is not getting the job done out of the pen. He has shown that he is nearing a return to the majors. This is one of those feel good stories that everyone just wants to see happen. He has definitely been through a tirade of injuries the past few years. Here is hoping that we see Mr Prior in pinstripes this year.

I don’t think they will put Hughes back in the pen, they need him to be an effective starter.
I saw a guy in the subway holding a pamphlet that said Jesus was coming on May 12, 2011. I don't think it will be that early, he would still qualify as a super two, so they need to wait until June to delay his arbitration clock.
They'll be fine, I hear Selig is letting 24 teams into the playoffs.

This is hilarious.

Random boldness helps to make my point! I don’t think the Yanks are that concerned with how he’ll blend in the clubhouse, they probably checked with the players first before signing him.
Unless you're a pitcher or Gustavo Molina, kindly SWING THE BAT and ignore the Binder's bunt signal.
I'm really wary of jettisoning young players to keep aging veterans around.
Particularly in the case of Nova/ Millwood. I doubt that Nova will ‘learn’ anything if he goes back to AAA. What he needs to learn is how to get MLB hitters out the 3rd time through the order. If players in the minors could adjust to pitchers mid- game, they wouldn’t be in the minors. Although Millwood could be an effective arm, I think we need to take our lumps with Nova til he gets it.
Millwood would make a justifiable replacment for Buddy Carlyle (sp?), who is 28 years old, serviceable, but not a prospect. Prior is a question mark, but possibly better than Pendleton if he can remain in one piece. (The Onion had an excellent article about Prior signing a 4 year contract with the disabled list).
I also don’t know how long Phil Hughes arm will remain dead before it becomes a zombie arm and returns to eat the bats of the living. It could be a while. Either way, Freddie Garcia looks worlds better than Hughes has for the last 9 months.
Gustavo is a blight on the glorious Molina catching reputation, and his one game behind the plate shall be stricken from the record book the instant Cervelli returns.

Thought that
Gustavo was not from the catching Molina’s.
Maybe Milwood is tradable. Maybe some team has a potential situational lefty stashed on a AAA roster that could be obtained for Millwood. Maybe a Scott Elbert from the Dodger’s AAA affiliate and a throw in for Millwood. I suggest this mainly because Millwood has the right to demand his release if he is not on the roster at some point.
