what exactly is replacement level. what is the standard that players are held to. also does a win above it translate to another win on the field. or is it suppose to? i understand the scale of it, as in what is good, bad and epic, but some core concepts i don't get.
In case people dont know, i am not a fan of WAR. its not that i dont like the newage stats, its that i dont like stats that try to do more then what i think stats should do. i know that was confusing but let me explain. fielder percentage tells you how good a player is at making a routine play. it wont tell, as we all know, how good of a defender a player is. OBP tells you how often a guy gets on base, not how good of a hitter he is. batting average tells you hits. i dont like stats that say how good a player is overall, as WAR tries to do. i am not a fan of UZR when it comes to infielders. i think its quite accurate for the most part in the outfield, but not when it comes to infield. so please. can someone explain WAR to me a little more?
