2011 Roster
Spring Training is winding down. Been an interesting spring that is for sure. Lots of oblique injuries, a starting pitcher's Battle Royal for the final two spots in the rotation and long reliever. Not to mention a new batting style for Derek Jeter. The resurgence of Alex Rodriguez and Curtis Granderson. AJ Burnet seeming to return to form. An old familiar face as the new DH, Jorge Posada. A chance to see the killer B's in action, specially 'Man-Ban' doing his thing.
So here is my opinnion on who opens the season as a New York Yankee:
STARTING PITCHERS:
1. CC Sabathia
2. AJ Burnett
3. Phil Hughes
4. Ivan Nova
BULLPEN:
10. David Robertson
11. Boone Logan
12. Freddy Garcia
Catchers:
13. Russell Martin
14. Gustavo Molina (till Francisco Cervelli returns)
15. Jorge Posada
INFIELDERS:
16. Derek Jeter
17. Robinson Cano
18. Mark Teixeira
19. Alex Rodriguez
20. Eduardo Nunez
21. Eric Chavez
OUTFIELDERS:
22. Brett Gardner
23. Nick Swisher
24.Curtis Granderson
25. Andruw Jones
Possible trades:
Looks like Sergio Mitre will become trade bait to secure a backup outfielder or a backup catcher.
Ramiro Pena maybe moved to get a backup outfielder or returned to triple A.
On the verge:
Justin Maxwell may be on opening roster to replace Granderson (good chance he will be on the injury list to open season) and will be first outfielder called upon. This kid has five tools, seems destined to be an every day starter or at least a fourth outfielder one of these days.
First option for DH will be Jorge Vasquez, he can hit, but not nothing to brag about in the field.
Looks like Kevin Millwood (if signed) will be first call-up for long reliever or starter if any falter.
Mark Prior seems to be getting better and better could be a bullpen call up during the season at anytime. He seems to be recovering nicely and is about ready to help.
Then there is Manny Banuelos ('Man-Ban') what a surprise, he should get the nod either mid-season or will open next year in the starting rotation. Would not surprise anyone to see him make the roster this spring. This kid is going to be a front end starter sooner than later.
Looks like Jesus Montero will return to triple A and be a mid season call-up or on the roster opening day next year. He seems to be pressing and is not getting comfortable behind the plate. Looked good behind plate early. He simply is just not getting the job done. But, Yankees could add him to roster and look to move Cervilli. As always he could be in a package for an ace on another team.

Looks good
but I don’t think anyone is going to offer any type of prospect for Mitre when he could be signed for the league min after a possible release. Pena has no trade value.
Agree 100% with your 2011 roster
Cervelli will definitely replace Molina when he is healthy. Unfortunately we will probably package Montero in a trade for a quality starter in July like we wanted to do last year.
I like Cervelli as a back-up catcher as he has good upside if he can stay healthy. Cervelli has great energy and an excellent work ethic which will translate into increased production and better catching defense.

I mostly agree with this roster. I had to look up Gustavo Molina- I didn't know who he is.
He is pictured on fangraph with his Red Sox hat- imagine my surprise. He is 29, and does not particularly impress. I would be inclined to give Austin Romine a shot, letting him start once or twice a week, maybe letting Posada start once or twice and having Romine finish for him.
Justin Maxwell is 27, and while he has speed, I don’t know that he would be picked over Golson. Fortunately, these are the last two spots on the roster, and the differences are negligible.
At least we won’t be running out Cody Ransom, Randy Winn, and people like that first off the bench. I expect more from Andruw Jones and Eric Chavez, if he stays healthy.

Ramirez
I see Max Ramirez cleared waivers and will go to Iowa. Even as a cheap rental, I don’t know why we didn’t claim him and 86 Molina.

or...
I see the Royals just designated Lucas May for assignment. He would be a big upgrade over Molina as well.

Does anyone have an ETA
On Cervelli? Broken bones in the feet are hell on a catcher, and may result in a longer rehab period than anticipated.
Garcia in place of Colon is most likely
Last night, a comedian died in New York. Somebody knows why. Somebody knows
Really don't see how Garcia makes it above Colon.
Colon definitely has held himself better and has better stats. The only way he could lose the spot is if he embarasses himself in a start, and Garcia goes like, perfect in 6 innings.
Colon hasn't pitched a game since June '09, while Garcia was serviceable in the majors last season.
I think that’s why they’re a bit hesitant on Colon.
Nope.
