Mark Teixeira Dumps Scott Boras
In today's MLB.com article, Tex said that he will now be represented by the Jonas Group and has parted ways with super-agent Scott Boras. Here are a few Tex quotes:
"There's no reason to get into a lot of specifics right now, but sometimes business relationships just run their course," Teixeira said. "For me and my family, right now this is the best decision for me."
"I felt at times I was Mark Teixeira, Scott Boras client, instead of Mark Teixeira, baseball player."
"There are a lot of teams out there that don't like me, as you guys all know, and Scott did a great job getting me my [Yankees] contract."
"I've known him for 12 years. After 12 years, sometimes it's just time to make a little bit of a change. Hopefully when I see him, we'll be able to shake hands."

Might have something to do with the fact that Tex won't be a free agent for 5 years
and I’m sure Boras is the most expensive agent. I doubt Tex wanted to pay that much for someone who does nothing for him
Home of the Roger Mason shot tracker
He’s still gotta pay Boras a percentage of his entire contract. I think he wants new representation so he can a spot with Girardi and Mo in a new Taco Bell commercial.

commercial idea
Guy can’t finish his chalupa. Girardi comes over to talk to him, says “I better get you some help.” Tex says “I’ll do it, Skip.” Girardi says “Sorry, it’s still April. I need Mo.” Then Mo comes in, takes the chalupa and says to Tex “Maybe next month.” And … scene.

Wow Tex. Giving him the “Maybe we can still be friends.” line.

Teixeira said that there are a lot of teams that don't like him? Where did that come from?
What did he ever do to piss off other teams? How many teams wouldn’t be upgrading with him at first base?
This sounds like a line Boras handed him- "No one thinks you can play, but I got you a big offer from the Yankees anyway. See how great I am?’

he gets boo'd pretty bad in a few places because he "spurned them" by signing with ny over them
(which is idiotic, why boo him and not the 15000 other free agents that chose not to sign with you?) but that’s weird that he phrased it as if they had a problem with him prior to him signing…

That is how his comment reads.
But even read the other way – we dislike you for not signing with us – he’s not even in the same league with the likes of Lebron James, or Milton Bradley, or quite a few others. This comment just made no sense to me no matter how I took it. Mark Teixeira is not perceived as a bad guy as near as I can tell.

I can't believe people hate on Scott Boras for being good at his job
The Bad Guy

i don't
i think he’s great
more money for the employees rather then the owners!
CHARLES NOOOOOOOOOO!!!
Every year the Yankees are going to spend $200+ million and the Marlins are going to spend $35 million. When Boras gets extra money for his clients, that just means less money is spent on other people, because the vast majority of owners are not willing to dip into their profits. So Mark Teixeira can sign a $180MM contract, but teams are going to low ball the crap out of everyone else.
The teams that sign Boras clients to mega-contracts are teams that take in gross amounts of revenue like the Yankees and the Sox. I agree that he gets hated on far too much, and he’d be my agent if I was a star player, but making him out to be a trust-busting Robin Hood is ridiculous.

i disagree
not all his clients are superstars signing mega-deals, but they still get top dollar for their services
and remember it was just two decades ago that players were paid a fraction of what they are paid today, partly because agents like Boras have elevated the amount players of all kinds demand
CHARLES NOOOOOOOOOO!!!
The contracts got bigger when steroid fueled home runs made baseball more fun to watch and profitable. Scott Boras had nothing to do with it.

you are right that is absolutely part of it
but i don’t think you can downplay the impact that agents and the union have had in forcing the owners to share more of their revenue with the players
CHARLES NOOOOOOOOOO!!!
Oh thank heavens for that! Without Boras and a union, someone like Barry Zito might only make $100MM of guaranteed money to be terrible instead of the much more fair $126MM. Stick it to the man!

Yeah, unions are great
Just ask Wisconsin, Ohio, California….
I bet it's good to be playing again, huh?
just ask anyone who enjoys a 40 hour work week, pensions, sick days, paid vacations, safe work environments, and a liveable wage
CHARLES NOOOOOOOOOO!!!
pensions and 40 hour work weeks
Pensions are a thing of the past, unless you’re in a union or work for the government. 40 hour work weeks are also not a guaranteed benefit, depending on your profession/workplace, but by-and-large, the only people I know who enjoy a guaranteed 40 hour work week are government employees (non-critical), union labor workers, and people in administrative positions (not the administrators, but the data entry people, etc, that are paid hourly).
Unions were a force for good in this country, at one time, but now they wield political power and not always in the best interest of their constituents or customers (teachers union comes to mind).
I think that players unions are overall a good thing because they’ve helped the players make more money and take care of themselves for the long haul.
I cringe when I read stories of professional baseball and football players (up until at least the early 70s) who had to work another job in the offseason to pay the bills (just to get by) as well as the fact that they were basically traded like baseball cards, like property, with no control or say in transactions (as far as I’m aware). Even though the situation has tipped (seemingly) in the players favor with all these big contracts, it’s nothing compared to how exploited athletes were in the first half (and into the 2nd half) of the 20th century.
I don't argue the point of ARod putting up monster numbers.
I also agree that the Rangers have to blame themselves for over-extending.
But as I posted a couple of months ago, part of Boras’ pitch to the Rangers was butts in the seats, and Ranger attendance did not benefit from his presence. From that perspective, Ranger fans probably can’t appreciate Boras preying on their management’s cupidity.
