Yankees co-chairman Hank Steinbrenner thinks his team’s celebration of its 2009 World Series championship may have lasted too long.
"I think, maybe, they celebrated too much last year," Steinbrenner said Monday. "Some of the players, too busy building mansions and doing other things and not concentrating on winning. I have no problem saying that."
When it was pointed out that Yankees captain Derek Jeter(notes) was building a large multimillion dollar home in Tampa last year, Steinbrenner said he wasn’t singling out any individual.

What the Hank?
CC, Arod, Jeter, AJ, and Tex were all overpaid millionaires last year, but were any of them complacent? Even Burnet?
Hank, on the other hand,is a rich, spoiled brat.
A bit of displacement going on?
You never know what your history is going to be like until long after you're gone.

This is starting to remind me of the vociferous George in his heyday. Right now, it’s taken with a grain of salt. But if he keeps it up he’s going to turn off a lot of players who are already here and turn away those who were maybe thinking of becoming a Yankee as free agents. If there is one thing players do not like, it’s an assault on their integrity of how they approach their careers. This is beginning to remind me of the ownership in the ’80’s, and it was not a happy time to be a Yankees fan.
There's always next year
