Mood Music - The Day I Tried to Live by Soundgarden

Morning Haiku
Too much on Joba
Never-ending off-season
The Sandman cometh

  • New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera is going to show up a little bit late to Spring Training due to his children being sick with the flu.  While making your own schedule is certainly a perk included in the Greatest Closer of All Time package, we will have to wait until (likely) tomorrow for Rivera to grace us with his presence.  As Rivera is normally used very lightly (~10 innings) during Spring Training, this should have no effect on his preparation for opening day.
  • Were you excited about making "Brian Schlitter" jokes?  If this thread was any indication, Schlitter's mere presence would have been enough to provide hours of levity.  Unfortunately for the wordsmiths among you (looking at you, long time listener), Schlitter has been claimed by the Phillies.  If there was ever a time for Nick Johnson to have the popular support of Yankees fans, it would be now.
  • When I write these posts, I often use Google News to scour the internet for Yankees related topics for your perusal.  By merely entering the words "New York Yankees," I found one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine articles about Joba Chamberlain and his offseason weight gain.  Is there ever going to be a time when 24 innings in 2007 isn't going to mean that every time that Joba blows his nose we need the media to provide us with every angle?

Baseball is coming soon!  Patience, grasshopper.

I actually found a Joel Sherman article

in which he explained after sifting through Joba’s dung and running some tests he discovered Joba is actually 3/5’s centaur. What this means is that he is our future LFer and currently the Mets best option for opening day starter

Last night, a comedian died in New York. Somebody knows why. Somebody knows

If you sift through the pictures linked up top

tell me Posada doesn’t look like a future manager.

Also Mark Prior and AJ Burnett gleefully prancing about fills my heart with joy

Great song choice. I dunno about Joba yet, reports are that he is heavier, but Cashman also said that he looks much better in his bullpens than even last August.

February 14th, pitchers, catchers, and Messiahs report to Spring Training.

I think anyone with sick kids could have gotten a pass to show up a day or two late.

There may be ‘greatest closer ever’ perks, but I don’t think this counts as one.

Chamberlain and Christina ...

After seeing pics of both Joba and Christina Aguilera I’m thinking the two are saddling up to the same buffet of late.

Schlitter?

I don’t get it. What are we laughing at?

It'll forever remain a mystery.

I am a leaf on the wind. Watch me soar.

I suppose ...

the Phillies believed it was time to Schlit or get off the pot.
