Let's Give Alex Rodriguez Credit
This is a short post, but let's give the man credit for moving from shortstop to third base (without controversy) back when he was the best shortstop in the league. The man appreciated the organization, wanted to win a title, and was willing to take his talents wherever they were needed. With the Marlins going all out to sign Reyes, we'll have to see what Hanley Ramirez does. It'll be interesting to see whether he takes the high road that Alex did.

Hanley is more like Jeter in this analogy
lets see him be un-Jeter-like and move over in place of a better player.
It's a completely different situation
A-Rod had the choice of either moving to 3rd to play for the Yankees or staying with the Rangers and playing shortstop. He decided that being on a winning team was more important to him than staying at his position. Good for him.
Hanley had no say in the Marlins decision to sign Jose Reyes. He is being told, not asked, to give up his position to a player who is not as good as him, but will make more money. Should he suck it up and go along with it? Maybe. But it’s ridiculous to expect him not to be upset.

He might get traded
Which wouldn’t be an entirely bad thing for them- Hanley still is one of the top shortstops in the league and the man could bring in a huge load.
If he stays, then he should just suck it up and move to third. Hanley is better than Reyes but Reyes is the superior defensive shortstop. It would be best for that team if Hanley switched positions, rather than waste Reyes’s ridiculously good range at third base.
I'll do whatever it takes to win games, whether it's sitting on a bench waving a towel, handing a cup of water to a teammate, or hitting the game-winning shot.- Kobe Bryant

Huge load?
all that matters is if Reyes is a better shortstop. The better defender should be at the position, offensive production doesn’t mean anything
Which is what I said...

oh sorry my fault
I read it fast. Thought you were accusing.
I will now slap myself.

Hanely is a terrible SS
Arod was one of the best SS. We lost value by moving Arod out of his natural position in favor of jeter. While it would benefit the Marlins and Hanely’s own value if he moved. But Hanely right now is acting like an ass.
Funny
I can remember a couple years ago when a lot of people here would have loved to have Hanley in lieu of Jeter.

Let's thank Alex for really taking one for the team.
The massive amount of money we spent on him is not enough to thank Ardo for his touching display of flexibility by moving to third. What a trooper. Three cheers for Alex! Though he made the move in 2004, we should probably thank him now, before he becomes a full-time DH.

Yes he is the upstanding example of a unselfish player

I can't figure out either one of you
Let’s bash Alex because he makes a lot of money, as opposed to all of the other players out there who donate their entire paychecks to charity.
If you read my comment you'll see I don't begrudge Alex for his money.
I just think the entire premise of this post is absurd.

sarcastic comments about how much he's paid is not begrudging?
I read your comment. I don’t think it reads the way you intended.
The comment is about thanking him for something he is paid to do.
If we’re going to thank Alex Rodriguez for moving to third base in 2004 and earning $28MM/year to play the position ever since, then we should thank everyone in the country for working a job they may not have been initially enthusiastic about.

He was not paid to give up his position, that he was better at than the person he gave it up for, without being a pain in the ass about it.

He had a choice to leave in 2007 and decided to stay and play 3B.
Why is it so important for everyone to want to thank him for something he did in 2004. We have men and women fighting and dying overseas in uniform, poverty rates higher than ever before, and people want to thank Alex Rodriguez for moving from SS to 3B. Maybe I’m overreacting, but please, the last thing I want to do right now is thank Alex Rodriguez for something he did 7 years ago.

If you don’t want to, by all means, don’t. I don’t see anyone asking you to send him a thank you letter. But yeah, you are overreacting to the max.

not exactly the same thing
i understand what your saying but its not exactly the same scenario… when arod came to the yankees, jeter was already the shortstop… arod was the new guy…. with the marlins… hanley ramirez is the guy who has been the shortstop… and the new guy is coming in and taking his job… two completely different circumstances
im just suprised the marlins didnt discuss this with hanley before they went and got reyes when i first heard they got reyes i just assumed they had that situation worked out already
