29 Trades for 29 Teams: Boston Red Sox

The Red Sox and Yankees won't make a trade, but still, it is great to check out a possibility.

I am a Red Sox fan (should I run?) so I will take part in doing the trade thought for the Red Sox and the Yankees. What fun!

Hopefully this trade will be good!

Red Sox get: Freddy Garcia

Yankees get: Oscar Tejada, Drake Britton

The reason the Red Sox are going for this trade is because they are in need of a semi-quality starting pitcher. While Freddy Garcia is not at the top of their list, he can still go out and give them a decent 10-12 wins per season. The Sox may be willing to give him up for a young player because they want to win now and they need to win now to get their fan base back into watching them and buying season tickets. They would be willing to trade Zander Bogaerts because they have other SS in their minor league.

The reason the NY Yankees do this is, first, because Freddy Garcia is getting up there, age wise) and they could possibly get some value for him. Xander Bogaerts is a SS and could be developed in a couple of years to become the Yankees starting SS after Derek Jeter leaves. He could also be their to give Jeter some breaks if he ends up staying for plenty of future years. XB may not a major league SS at the time, but he is only 19 and ranked in the Top 5 for SS in the Red Sox Farm System.

That would be a huge win for the Yankees

Bogaerts is maybe the highest upside prospect in the entire system, he has a HanRam sort of bat, but may end up at 3B a lot faster with his size. A top prospect like that is far, far too much to pay for a guy who was signed for last season with a minor league deal. Xander is the type of prospect who in a package could get a certified ace.

Or was this a joke?

Needs more info on Tejada and Britton. Who are they?

They're both middling prospects who both had down years.

Britton returned in 2010 from TJ surgery and posted a 3.39 K:BB ratio, it was quite an exceptional year. However in 2011 he lost all semblance of control, walked 5+/9 and had a 6.91 ERA.

Tejeda is currently a SS, was/is a high upside sort of guy who in 2010 showed quite a bit of power relative to his previous seasons, seemed poised to breakout in 2011 but his poor discipline got the best of him, posted a sub .300 OBP. He still hit a lot of doubles, the power is intriguing.

Tejeda could be useful but Britton seems like another Brackman.

He certainly could be

He has posted those high walk rates in the past. I think this season will be the determining factor as the third since the TJ, he’ll either have more with no control or more with the lower rate, a TJ ‘miracle’ if you will.

I would say no to this
they need to win now to get their fan base back into watching them and buying season tickets.

Seriously? Is this actually a real concern? and would Freddy Garcia really be the answer?

I don't think so

Fenway will have no problem selling out and the Red Sox have as good a chance as any to win the division and compete for the World Series.

you wouldn't get that

from the craziness that is this offseason

by jetanumba2 on Dec 24, 2011 8:27 PM EST up reply actions

Garcia would help

He could possibly give them double-digits in wins, and as a Red Sox fan, I think that we need some kind of move to get another starting pitcher

by JAAJ on Dec 24, 2011 4:27 PM EST up reply actions

who cares about wins?

Garcia could manage to give up 10 runs a game and the Red Sox could still manage to win them. You want that guy in the rotation?

Kind of a moot point...

Since Freddy Garcia just signed a free agent contract, which I believe means he can’t be traded until May 1st.

But any proposed trade between the Yankees and the Red Sox has to be unrealistic anyway. I’d do it just to get rid of Garcia who shouldn’t be on this team.
