TOP TARGETS
The winter is around the corner and no Yankee signings, yet. Is that a good thing. Sure seems like the market is sky high for those top pitchers.
C.J. Wilson wanting 90 to 120 million for six years, depending on who you listen too. That seems crazy for a pitcher who has yet to truly dominate. 15 million a year seems reasonable for 4 years. He will get paid. I would pass on any thing with him longer than 4 yrs.
Roy Oswalt he is very interesting guy. Most likely looking for a 3 to 4 year deal around 50 to 70 million. With his back problems this does not seem like a good deal. Maybe 2 years and 30 million would entice him. Then again the health concerns are a major factor. So probable not going to happen.
Edwin Jackson is reportedly wanting a contract similar to A.J. Burnett. Not going to happen. Yankees might consider him for 48 million on a four year deal. But he has yet to show the ability to be consistent. So very unlikely to happen.
Mark Buehrle has show the ability to be consistent and reliable. The market seems to be four years and 60 million. To me, Buehlre seems like the best candidate of the group. Maybe a 48 million offer for three years would get it done.
Yu Darvish this looks like the real deal. But is it. From all the reports he is ready to start off his major league career. The concern is going to be the transition to major league baseball. Pitching on 5 days rest versus 7 days rest in Japan. Then the potato is different so how will that stuff pan out in American baseball. Looks like he might be the number one candidate as far as the Yankees are concerned. Wow just think about 40 to 50 million just for the right to negotiate with him? Then tack on a contract for around 50 to 70 million for 5 or 6 years. Easily could cost the Yankees 90 to 120 million to see him in Pinstripes one day.
Yoenis Cespedes have you seen the video? Does he every look like a stud? The question is can he make the jump to American society way of life? Sure looks like a five tool future star. Reportedly may take a 5 year deal for as much as 60 million to get his unproven services.
Hmmm I like the ideal of Mark Buehlre. He is in the mold of Andy Pettitte. Simply put he will not hurt but only help a rotation. The needed southpaw behind C.C. What is the most appealing is that it would give Manny Banuelos and Dellin Betances more time to develop. No matter what in three or four more years either they will the future of the Yankees rotation or gone to another team. So sign Mark.
Yu Darvish is worth the effort and the money. Yes he would be a luxury but hell they are the Yankees. He looks like the future stud that comes along once in a lifetime. Hopefully, when the dust clears he will be standing on the mound wearing Pinstripes. Go get him, pay the money.
I want Yoenis Cespedes. If obtained he suddenly makes the Yankees very dangerous. He gives them that replacement when Nick Swisher's deal is up. Also by making him the fourth outfielder he improves the defense. Many believe the Yankees would have the best defensive outfield in baseball. Then his speed could be put to use as that need pinch runner late in game. Yet by bringing him around at a slower pace he just might be become the brightest future star on the roster. Brian Cashman watch the video again, we need him.
"Now those signings would make for a great off-season."

that looks dirty
Mcelroy is better than Sanchez
I think i'm going to write a post recapping the last week of Pinstripe Alley
and pretend like i came up with really good analysis that is just a really misinformed opinionated list and not even bother with stats. remember 2 rec my stuf.
Granderson is not a great CF; he is average.
Too many lost balls in the lights, roof, bobbling too
many balls, throwing to the wrong bases, bad jumps
on the ball, plays the deepest CF of any major league
CF..
Does anybody read the posts by Detroit beat writers
when Granderson left? "he’s great guy, but is only an
average fielder, plays too deep, only an average arm,
loses balls in the lights, sun, etc.
cool story

still on granderson, i see
its crazy. when the yankees made the trade for granderson, everyone got on him. they said, gardner should stay in cf. all kinds of stuff was said then. last winter, same things were still being said. & i get a kick out of people taking what a hometown writer says about a player after he’s left team. the guys won a gold glove. he fears no walls. he’ll dive & make ridiculous highlight catches. & to boot, he hits 41 hom runs, drives in 120, & he still cant get any respect! meanwhile, i hear this stuff about gardner shouldve won a gold glove. do people not ever notice, when he turns wrong way on fly balls, or cant pick up balls hit directly at him? he makes his share of bonehead plays. but, i guess rules are different for him. heres a guy who should easily be a 300 hitter, with his speed. should steal around 70 bases a year. do you ever get on his case though? granderson will be in cf for his 3rd year this coming spring. he’s better accustomed, used to, or however you want to put it. the guys a great fielder. give him a break. after all, he almost single handedly, with cano, carried this team into playoffs.
Do people notice when Gardner is effortlessly just right there on line drives? No. Plus he won this thing called a Fielding Bible Award… so yeah he’s good.
Also is a league-leading 49 steals not enough? Christ. And you’re getting on people for how “Granderson still can’t get any respect.”
after all, he almost single handedly, with cano, carried this team into playoffs.
^Yeah, that’s not single-handedly. Cano was arguably better, especially when Granderson stopped hitting in September.

"Why not? I had a better year than he did." - G.H. Ruth
Everyone on this team is terrible
except when they’re not.
Boone Logan is a good boy. So is David Robertson. Team A.J.
because we all know
you need a great bat to play Centerfield. Gardner is a center fielder playing Left field. Both players are good fielders, while Gardner is great. And diving catches are not indicative of talent, it just means he was close enough to dive but not close enough to get under it. Gardner never dives because he’s so freaking fast he doesn’t have to. Tell me who you’d rather have in Center field.
stop typing like you're speaking out loud
its very hard to follow whatever it is you are saying. Type full and complete sentences and you don’t need to abbreviate so much, just take the time to write it all out
out?
I'll do whatever it takes to win games, whether it's sitting on a bench waving a towel, handing a cup of water to a teammate, or hitting the game-winning shot.- Kobe Bryant
gardner great, should be in cf
i just have to ask this. how many of you actually went out, & played real games on a field or park? then, how many of you have ever looked at the #s for granderson’s fielding before he came here? now, do you remember, even with his blazing speed, how balls hit out to dead center bounced off the wall, over his head while he played center? give me a break! & my thing i said was, heres a guy who hits 41 home runs, steals over 20 bases & plays a damn good cf, yet guys still find ways to talk about him. give me a break!
Saying that Gardner is a better defender than Granderson =/= Curtis is teh sux!!1!
Gardner is a better defender than everybody.
how many of you actually went out, & played real games on a field or park? then, how many of you have ever looked at the #s for granderson’s fielding before he came here?
What the hell does one have to do with the other? Plenty of people here, including myself, have played baseball in our younger days. And if you actually fucking payed attention, the majority of posters here do nothing but praise Grandy AND Gardner.
Seriously, take your own somber advice from the other thread and stop posting here. Please.

oh sorry, didn't mean to echo
i didn’t read your post before expressing my own objection. then again, maybe it’ll be good for echo responses – maybe it’ll get it through his head.
Boone Logan is a good boy. So is David Robertson. Team A.J.
would you like to see it?
Last night, a comedian died in New York. Somebody knows why. Somebody knows
what the hell does our lack of personal experience playing centerfield have to do with anything
Boone Logan is a good boy. So is David Robertson. Team A.J.
My favorite "sentences" from this post.
Is that a good thing.
So probable not going to happen.
But is it.

(Right, because the Yankees weren’t dangerous before. Only by signing Cespedes can we finally be a dangerous team.)

No to Wilson, Oswalt, or Jackson
I like Buehrle because he has proven he can pitch in the AL. But I would not give him more than 2 years.
I would take a chance on Yu Darvish. It’s only money – right? The Yankees have plenty of it, and they would make most if not all of the money back on marketing alone.
I like Yoenis Cespedes but can’t possibly think he would make the jump to the majors in 2012.
