MLB Hot Stove Report
There's nothing brewing with the Yankees right now, as not even MLB Trade Rumors has posted anything Yankee-related within the last 48 hours. However, there are some interesting things going around.
- Mike Axisa tells us that David Ortiz will affect the Red Sox outfield plans. If the Sox retain Ortiz, they're unlikely to chase a big bat for right field.
- Over in Southern California, top pitching target C.J. Wilson has serious interest in the Angels. Also of note, the Angels will be among the bidders for Prince Fielder and Albert Pujols.
- Yoenis Cespedes may not become a free agent for two months. It's been speculated that he could receive over $30MM on the open market.
- Could you imagine if the Marlins inked Jose Reyes, Albert Pujols, Mark Buehrle, and Ryan Madson in the same offseason? They've already offered contracts to Reyes, Pujols, and Buehrle, and are rumored to have interest in Madson as well.
- The Rockies have expressed interest in Grady Sizemore, who is a potential Comeback Player of the Year candidate. The Red Sox have also checked in on Sizemore.

Don't the Angels have Trumbo and Morales?
Why would they sign Fielder or Pujols? And I think Wilson would be a nice fit in LA, but didn’t he just insult Mike Scoscia last month?
Where they already have Trout, Bourjous, Wells, Hunter, and Abreu
The Angels have seven people for five positions between OF/DH/1B
Russ for Jared Weaver, straight up
Scoscia would be all over it.
Let us all congratulate the Boston Red Sox for becoming the first World Champions in the history of sports to NOT make the postseason! Thats not easy to do!

Apparently Trumbo is going to be the starting 3b next season...
odd.
Am I the only one flagging this guy?
Seriously, do we have to wait for the money shot or a "F*** THE SOXXXXXX!" before we ban him? Doubleteapot… BAN HIM!!

Especially odd since they have Callaspo who had a great season.
Although that might just have been a career year.
Well he plays very good defense at 3rd, which makes it more odd to me,
but I don’t see the career year aspect of 2011.

For the right price, I'd wear all neon and do nothing but dance upon the technicolor home run thing.

I heard the Marlins were going to get all those players.
Contract talks discontinued after revealing the players their new uniforms…..
Realist.
Same comment as this morning re the Marlins
We’ve seen this before. Marlins go out and spend a ton of money on free agents to win one title. Then the next year they realize, “Hey this level of expenditure cannot be sustained on our revenue stream.” Then begins the fire sale!

Their revenue stream is different now that they're in their own stadium and no longer giving money to the dolphins.

Wait till we find out that they've offered 10 years, 30 million for Pujols
20 million total for Reyes and 500,000 for Buehrle.
I’m kidding, sort of. But just because they made an offer doesn’t mean they’re actually in it to get them. I’d like to hear what they offered, which I’m sure we’ll hear soon.
And please- the sooner CJ Wilson gets signed by a non-Yankees team, the better.

Yeah but by making these offers they're kind of setting the bar
They’re trying to build excitement around the opening of their new stadium. If they woo all the top free agents and don’t sign any of them, the Marlins fan is going to be very disappointed.

Well they're used to it
I’m just a little skeptical that a team that absolutely refuses to spend any money for over a decade to the point where the league had to force them to spend some now all of a sudden can make competitive offers for all these big time free agents. I know they have a new stadium and they’re expecting to make a lot off of it, but I think it’s still a little surprising.
Doesn’t mean I’m not rooting for them though- I want a couple of these guys to go to the Marlins. I think it would be good for baseball for them to open their new stadium with a competitive team.

I don't want Pujols to go anywhere but where he is.
Having a bunch of competitive teams is definitely good for baseball, but so is having a superstar (near their prime) being the face of a franchise is too.
This sudden about-face in spending habits does seem to support the accusations that some owners are just pocketing profits rather than paying any attention to fielding a decent team.
