my preference

CC dominates, Verlander can’t deal with pitching on short rest, Yanks win big and CC goes the distance. Then they can empty the bullpen tomorrow to back up AJ and win the series.

Well, I’d rather have back to back dominant games from our starters so they don’t even have to come back home and then these four guys can prepare for the ALCS. And Valverde can go back home and examine his crystal ball and find out what went wrong.

is it just me or is every fly ball to Ajax that he can't catch end the same way?

over the shoulder, bounces, hits the wall and he can’t pick it up off the ground

I noticed

Wouldn’t put too much stock into it- he’s one of the better defenders in the league if not one of the best. He knows what he’s doing on defense. And that ball would have been a triple anyways.

I think on the Rodriguez ground ball Peralta bobbled and that’s why he didn’t throw home, rather than choosing to throw to first initially.

Pitch count doesn't worry me with CC on the mound

It’s a playoff game and he’s a horse, and he doesn’t have to go on short rest next time he pitches (if there is a next time). He can go 130 or maybe pass 140 if absolutely necessary. I’m worried more about Detroit getting free baserunners because anything not down the middle is a ball.

that the decisive game (5 or 7, depending on the series) is the only one where homefield really makes an appreciable difference

I get that being able to start at home is nice, but then the other team gets 3 at home in a row.

The idea is that a deciding Game is played at your home ballpark

And that overall you get more home games in a series. The placement of some of the home games may make it less of a disadvantage for the away team, but it can still be important. We saw that in 2003.

I do think that in a 7 game series there shouldn’t be three straight on the road though. I’d rather have 2-2-1-1-1
