You've set the bar too high

Everything else in this thread is going to be a letdown.

On the other hand, with a start this good, we're guaranteed victory!

LETS GO YANKEES

A day game at home, yankees win 7 to 4. Freddy and the bullpen.

Freddy's batted ball profile spells trouble here

22% line drive rate, 41% fly ball rate. 4.86 tERA. He had a 3.98 ERA at home during the regular season and was not good during September. Hoping for 6 IP, 2 ER, but thinking more like 6 IP, 5 ER. Going to need the bats to show up again today. Plus side is that Scherzer had a 5.23 ERA on the road and gives up the longball. He’s got the strikeout rate to shut us down but is also pretty wild (literally – 12 WP in 2011, tied for 4th in the AL). I think our patience will get to him, and once he starts walking a couple guys in a row he’s going to be in deep trouble. But we have to punish him for putting guys on base and not let him get big strikeouts when we’ve got men on.

Yes indeedy

Two flyball pitchers in YSIII. But I’ll take our offense over Detroit’s any day.

Closer than you think (113 vs. 109 WRC)

Our offense is a little more even throughout the lineup, but their 4-7 have a higher peak.

What could make a big difference is our excellent OF defense (+27 UZR vs. -4 given today’s lineups). With 2 FB/LD pitchers on the mound that could be the X factor.

That's a good point

I knew Detroit had a good offense, but you’ve already given my reason for picking our offense – more depth.

Looking at the stats, wow, that is ridiculously even. 10 points in SLG, nearly the same OBP. What we do have is a lower BABIP on the season, but slightly higher walks and a significantly higher ISO (.181 vs .157). That does bode well.

I’m just hoping for Freddy to keep us in the game, and the offense to stay hot.

Saw it, BYB was complaining about it

It seemed strangely devoid of actual numbers, for all of the author’s talk. It pretty much all hinged on ERA- for pitchers with 220+ IP in a season. I can understand what point he was trying to make, but in my opinion he did not make a strong argument at all.

Still interesting though IMO

America doesn't run on Dunkin; it runs on Varitek.
