Should be able to play through it

Said the same thing last night too though.

I’d prefer 10 runs in the bottom of the second, so then I can relax a little.

Let us all congratulate the Boston Red Sox for becoming the first World Champions in the history of sports to NOT make the postseason! Thats not easy to do!

"Unpleasant Internet Dude"

by david d on Oct 1, 2011 8:15 PM EDT reply actions

A little

But I think even starters who have done it before would feel a little jittery. Nova is incredibly poised for his age, so I think he’ll be fine. He’s got guts and balls.

It’s Fister’s first playoff game too, so he may be feeling the same thing.

Just felt it. Not really based on anything. Not everything has to be explained with scientific data. Same feeling when I said we’d run away with the division back in March. And I said Detroit would win their division by ten games.

Texas is a 96 win team. They're pretty good.

Tampa needed a boatload of help to get where they are. They may win this series, for the simple reason that the postseason is a crapshoot. Doesn’t mean we should have expected it.

by waw on Oct 1, 2011 8:24 PM EDT up reply actions

They also played a higher portion of their games against the Mariners (as compared to the Yankees or Boston or Tampa).

by bango31 on Oct 1, 2011 8:25 PM EDT up reply actions

Texas was better than Tampa all season

It’s shocking me that Tampa can’t seem to lose right now. With that lineup they have I’m really surprised they’re scoring the way they are in the first couple games.

Let us all congratulate the Boston Red Sox for becoming the first World Champions in the history of sports to NOT make the postseason! Thats not easy to do!

Hey Yankees

Next time you bat, feel free to score a few runs.

Get on base somehow

Maybe try and bunt since it’s not like Fister is walking anyone. Walk, steal a base and go from there.

I could see that happening too

Wouldn’t be the dumbest thing in the world but I wouldn’t support it. Get on base, steal and then bunting to third would be better if they had to do it.

Nah

He could score from 2nd or 3rd on a single, so why waste the out?

by waw on Oct 1, 2011 9:21 PM EDT up reply actions

Sac fly or groundout can then score a run if you bunt him to third

I still wouldn’t do it because it’s too early in the game to be playing for one, but it would be smarter than bunting right away.

For all the Ubaldo talk at the dead line

Fister was probably the best pitcher on the market at the time

by lololol on Oct 1, 2011 9:19 PM EDT reply actions

I would rather he have a higher K & BB

Fister looks a lot like a Scott Baker/Nick Blackburn to me.

by PortlandYankee on Oct 1, 2011 9:21 PM EDT up reply actions

3.89 K:BB

he better than both since he a good ground ball pitcher who has a okay K rate and walks no one

by lololol on Oct 1, 2011 9:23 PM EDT up reply actions

to be more specific:
Baker has a good K:BB but is extremely fly ball
while Blackburn has a good groundball rate but bad walk rates and low K rates

Fister has a very good K:BB and good groundball rates. so he is more of a combo of Baker and Blackburn

Niece piece on Sterling in the Times. Makes him seem much more sympathetic. (I did not know he was divorced.) He’s kind of a goof, but I’d rather have him than someone who doesn’t care.

I didn't mind Sterling and Kay

Either of them is hard to take as the dominant partner, but when they split time, they can be good. Or maybe I like them more than I should because they were the team when the Yankees were winning all the time.

by long time listener on Oct 1, 2011 9:25 PM EDT up reply actions

announcers always are better when your team wins

For instance, one of my favorite calls ever is the final out of the 2009 World Series, and that was from Joe Buck! And I was at that game so I didn’t even hear it live. But I’ve heard the replay many times.

Internet is so shoddy at my school… yet it’s all I have to rely on. How is Nova looking? Robbie’s double almost went out? Looks like they’re starting to get ahold of Fister (no pun intended).

Nova's looking excellent

Fister’s done well, but they’ve started to hit him harder. Granderson double, Cano double off the top of the wall and then an A-Rod 400 foot flyout to center to end the inning.

Gardner's style is as follows:

Take until you have two strikes, then make contact on 98% of pitches inside the zone.

Which is actually great, because it leads to a ton of walks and pitches seen. I doubt he could be an above average hitter if he wasn’t so patient.
