I’d prefer 10 runs in the bottom of the second, so then I can relax a little.

Anyone else worried
about Nova maybe having some jitters?
"Unpleasant Internet Dude"
formerly known as "Rude Internet Guy"
A little
But I think even starters who have done it before would feel a little jittery. Nova is incredibly poised for his age, so I think he’ll be fine. He’s got guts and balls.
It’s Fister’s first playoff game too, so he may be feeling the same thing.

Not to mention
TB is just a better team who plays against better competition
"Unpleasant Internet Dude"

Texas is a 96 win team. They're pretty good.
Tampa needed a boatload of help to get where they are. They may win this series, for the simple reason that the postseason is a crapshoot. Doesn’t mean we should have expected it.

Texas was better than Tampa all season
It’s shocking me that Tampa can’t seem to lose right now. With that lineup they have I’m really surprised they’re scoring the way they are in the first couple games.

As for the Rays offense...
I’m kind of worried the Yanks awoke a sleeping giant with that last series in Tampa.
Fair point.
I still think there’s something to be said for confidence and momentum. And they currently seem to be oozing both.
Certainly seems like it boosted their confidence
"Unpleasant Internet Dude"
formerly known as "Rude Internet Guy"
And yet, the Yankees took 3 of 4 when it mattered
Last season the exact same thing happened – the road team won every game in that series. I expect the winner of this series to lose the next series.

MSM is dat yoo?
If we beat them than we would have “gave new life to our rivals.” You can concoct a narrative out of any situation.
and if we played hard and beat the Rays and the Sox made it in
and we lost to them, everyone would say we should have let Tampa win.
Good thing we traded Kennedy

Hey Yankees
Next time you bat, feel free to score a few runs.

Let's hope Gardner can get on base, use his speed
by PortlandYankee on Oct 1, 2011 9:18 PM EDT up reply actions
Get on base somehow
Maybe try and bunt since it’s not like Fister is walking anyone. Walk, steal a base and go from there.
Let us all congratulate the Boston Red Sox for becoming the first World Champions in the history of sports to NOT make the postseason! Thats not easy to do!
I could see that happening too
Wouldn’t be the dumbest thing in the world but I wouldn’t support it. Get on base, steal and then bunting to third would be better if they had to do it.
Let us all congratulate the Boston Red Sox for becoming the first World Champions in the history of sports to NOT make the postseason! Thats not easy to do!
Nah
He could score from 2nd or 3rd on a single, so why waste the out?
by waw on Oct 1, 2011 9:21 PM EDT up reply actions
Sac fly or groundout can then score a run if you bunt him to third
I still wouldn’t do it because it’s too early in the game to be playing for one, but it would be smarter than bunting right away.
Let us all congratulate the Boston Red Sox for becoming the first World Champions in the history of sports to NOT make the postseason! Thats not easy to do!
For all the Ubaldo talk at the dead line
Fister was probably the best pitcher on the market at the time
I would rather he have a higher K & BB
Fister looks a lot like a Scott Baker/Nick Blackburn to me.
by PortlandYankee on Oct 1, 2011 9:21 PM EDT up reply actions
3.89 K:BB
he better than both since he a good ground ball pitcher who has a okay K rate and walks no one

Niece piece on Sterling in the Times. Makes him seem much more sympathetic. (I did not know he was divorced.) He’s kind of a goof, but I’d rather have him than someone who doesn’t care.

I didn't mind Sterling and Kay
Either of them is hard to take as the dominant partner, but when they split time, they can be good. Or maybe I like them more than I should because they were the team when the Yankees were winning all the time.
by long time listener on Oct 1, 2011 9:25 PM EDT up reply actions
announcers always are better when your team wins
For instance, one of my favorite calls ever is the final out of the 2009 World Series, and that was from Joe Buck! And I was at that game so I didn’t even hear it live. But I’ve heard the replay many times.

The batter send a sharp grounder back up the middle, which Cano fielded at the base.

Fister’s done well, but they’ve started to hit him harder. Granderson double, Cano double off the top of the wall and then an A-Rod 400 foot flyout to center to end the inning.

Doesn't matter if they go today, or not.
They will be available every game.
This is the playoffs. All bets are off.
I'm not sure about that
But if they don’t need to be used, don’t use them. Keep them fresher for when they really are needed. Nova essentially just finished his 5th inning.

what teh fuck is this run scoring music?
Last night, a comedian died in New York. Somebody knows why. Somebody knows
Gardner's style is as follows:
Take until you have two strikes, then make contact on 98% of pitches inside the zone.
Which is actually great, because it leads to a ton of walks and pitches seen. I doubt he could be an above average hitter if he wasn’t so patient.

Martin has looked crappy behind the plate
Normally he’s fine, but not tonight. Thankfully its not hurting anything right now.
The ump begs to differ

Bring Brackman along to throw a bullpen
That’ll get him some good practice.
Let us all congratulate the Boston Red Sox for becoming the first World Champions in the history of sports to NOT make the postseason! Thats not easy to do!

From jscape's preview:
Game Thread at 8, overflows scheduled for 9 and 10, unless a mod is around and wants to handle it manually.
What happened to that?
I personally
Don’t believe in overflow threads

Martin has had more trouble catching Nova than AJ
Do you think it’s because he knows AJ is going to be in the dirt, and he doesn’t know where Nova is going? Or is he just getting tired or cramping in the weather?
not on defense

He’s probably protecting the ump, feeling sorry for him.

I think it's just an off night for him
I’m sure he’s more alert when AJ is pitching, but he usually is an excellent blocker regardless of who is on the mound.
The last thing I worry about is his defense. He’ll be fine.

you're not missing anything

He's on Dancing With The Stars
Not sure why he is going by the name Chaz though
Should you choose to test my resolve in this matter, you will be facing a finality beyond your comprehension, and you will not be counting days, or months, or years, but milleniums in a place with no doors.
Stop drawing attention to the matter!

How can you be
in the discussion for the batting title
I never think that there's something I can't do, whether it's beating my opponent one on one or practicing another hour because something about my game is just not right. - Magic
I am officially on the Buffalo Bills' bandwagon.
