Is now the time to trade for the Big Z?
The Cubs just made a big splash for Matt Garza. The problem is the Cubs gave up way too many prospects. They parted ways with 3 of their top 10 top prospects. They are still a long ways off from being a contender in the National League Central. With the Reds, Cardinals and Brewers in this division hard to believe that anything above a third place finish would be possible.
Sure they added Carlos Pena but his .200 batting average will not get it done. They have one of the highest paid performers in Alfonso Soriano but he is a shell of the player they signed. Soriano at best is worth a third of what they are paying him. So a power corner outfielder is in their prayers. Second base is a consistent question mark. Bull pen has improved with the signing of Kerry Wood but as always injuries will be the judge of that. Starting pitching is better but no way Carlos Silva (and his 12 million contract) has the same year as he did last year. They are looking very bleak behind the plate in the future and their current backup catcher Koyie Hill is on the fast track out of baseball. A lot of people believe Starlin Castro needs to move to second base, because his defense is very questionable. No doubt they will need to make a huge free agent signing next year and a couple minor additions. To accomplish that task they need to lower their payroll.
Zambrano looked great his last eight starts but Cubs have grown tired of his antics and has become a poor role model for their younger pitchers. He needs a change of scenery. He would be a great fit in the Yankees rotation. With the likes of Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada, Andy Pettitte (if he comes back) and Mariano Rivera as mentors he would become a solid team mate. Has consistently shown he is one of those so called bulldogs when he has the ball in his hand on the mound. He is a fierce competitor. It would do him good to be one of the guys rather than the "STUD" in a rotation.
Now maybe the best time to trade for Carlos Zambrano. I am a firm believer that he can be had for David Adams, Ivan Nova or Hector Noesi and Francisco Cervelli or low level catcher. Then again a combination of Eduardo Nunez or Kevin Russo and Ivan Nova or Hector Noesi might just get the job done. Would not surprise me to see the Cubs throw in some money to lessen the cost of Carlos this year. Especially if they would receive an additional or a better prospect.
So can you get this done Brian Cashman?

I'm not sure there's ever a time to trade for Zambrano
Last night, a comedian died in New York. Somebody knows why. Somebody knows

Zambrano?
No-way.

A trade is coming
But it won’t be Zambrano. With his salary and baggage the Yankees won’t pull the trigger on that trade. We will be seeing a trade for a 3/4 type pitcher within the next 2-3 weeks.
There's always next year
Food for thought
Look at the other potential trades for a front of the rotation starter. No other team has a front of the rotation available. Even during the mid season only the Cardinals look like a team that might shed payroll in order to sign Albert. Hard to believe they would make that trade. Seeing they have been in the hunt for their division title the past few years.
If not Zambrano then who?
Why do we need a front of the rotation starter?
People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring.

Why Not?
If we could give up the right prospects, Cubs eat part of the salary, and we have his ex-pitching coach. Sounds like a win-win. I say get it done!

Go to the Cubs blog and read their reactions to the rumors of us possibly trading for Zambrano. I’ll sum it up for you, the typical response is, “OMG, YES, PLEASE TAKE HIM!” If the fans of a team are that enthused to get rid of a player, why would we want that guy on our team? I don’t want his negativity and anger problems anywhere near my team.

Right. Dodger fans were equally enthused when we took Kevin Brown off their hands.
How’d that turn out?

Kevin Brown was a colossal waste of space.

Zambrano's contract
He is guaranteed 38 million the next two years. Would only vest to 19 million the third year if he would come in second in Cy Young or fourth in MVP. So if Cubs pay 10 million of this year’s salary would only be a 29 million dollar investment. Yes Yankees would gladly pay the addition 19 million if he performed that well.
Yankees were willing to go about 23 million a year for a Cliff Lee and loose a first round draft pick. Now they keep first rounder and keep payroll down as well for the class of 2013 free agents if they choose.
No, it would not be a good investment when he’s back home after getting suspended for attacking another water cooler. As much as people hate the Yankees for their success, they have to admit that our players have class. People like Jeter and Rivera play the game the right way, are good teammates, and represent the organization they play for well. Zambrano is like the anti-Jeter. He yells at refs and gets himself ejected, yells at teammates, and destroys team property in fits of rage, all on live television. If you still don’t understand why we should not even consider trading for him, then I can’t help you.

A trade for somebody without a Joba mention?
Im shocked. I would consider Zambrano, look at his numbers when he came back last year. Im sure many would rather keep a bunch of no name spects and just start teh Mitre though.,
Should you choose to test my resolve in this matter, you will be facing a finality beyond your comprehension, and you will not be counting days, or months, or years, but milleniums in a place with no doors.
Zambrano would be a horrible idea
First of all, he’s a psychopath. You’d have to imagine his unpredictable temper would only get worse with the media scrutinizing his every move.
Second, and more importantly, Zambrano has walked over 4 men per 9 innings 4 of the last 5 seasons. His WHIPs the last 2 years have been 1.45 and 1.37. He gives up too many base runners to be successful in the NL East. He wouldn’t have the soft landing spots in NL lineups that he has now to help get him out of trouble. In 136 career innings against AL opponents he has an ERA of 4.82 and a WHIP of 1.49.
Finally, regardless of how much money the Cubs picked up, he’s signed through 2012, so we’d be stuck with him for 2 years, not just one, so if we made this move, our desperation for starting pitching in 2011 would affect us in 2012. This is exactly the kind of panic move that could set the Yankees back a long way.

Give the club Cancer on purpose?
I'm going to take a flyer and predict Cash finally satisfys his boner for Jarrod Washburn before seasons end. Anyone else wonder if Damons bed is one of those WWE ring with ropes sleeper? I'm looking for volunters to try out my new taser (only bandwagoners need apply).

Pass the Zam-bromo ...
As a lifelong Yankees fan I can’t recall a quieter off-season… so quiet, in fact, I can’t help but think Cashman is playing a game of high-stakes poker right now. With whom? I suspect the Mariners and the Royals.
Look it’s been a long, dastardly cold winter in southeastern VA, and I’m hoping for some good news to come out of NYC — something other than Russell Martin. But with the Martin signing did Cashman tip his hand on what awaits? Is Montero part of a package that’s being assembled to land Hernandez or Soriano? Are we going to jettison 4 or 5 of our top prospects and boatloads of cash to land one or both of these guys?
It’s simply not in the Yankees DNA not to respond bigger when rivals like the Mets or Red Sox make moves. That’s why when the Red Sox reloaded their lineup, I thought we’d counter with pitching. We haven’t … yet. Perhaps because Cashman is waiting for Favre-err Andy to make up his mind before dropping his hand. I’m hearing all kinds of feeble and frail pitchers being mentioned and adding any one or several wouldn’t counter the Red Sox bold moves this winter. Again, that’s just not us. That’s why as I sit here glumly awaiting Spring I’m hopeful and even expectant that before long, good news will come out of NYC — on Andy and the Yankees bold, late-winter coup.

that the Yanks aren't making big moves is refreshing.
reminds me of when they actually used to win championships in the late 90s, instead of trying to buy them in this past decade where they won 1/10.

noooooooooooooooooooooooo
Zambrano is the hothead of the MLB. We a solid MLB locker room, with Swisher leading the way. I’d approve of them signing Satan over him….at least you know what you’re gonna get from Satan.
