Select a Seat Day at Yankee Stadium

I had an interesting day at Yankee Stadium today. The Yanks have instituted a new procedure this year by allowing package owners to come to the stadium for an opportunity to check out what seats in the stadium are available and to trade their seats for any of the available seats which they may prefer.

I have been buying a 15 game pack. Last year’s seat were a Saturday pack in Section 408. These were out by the right field foul pole and way up, under the roof. At least they were dry in the rain. When the old stadium was closed I had a Sunday pack about ½ way from home to third. So my seats had gotten a lot worse with the move north to the new park. I was so unhappy with the seats that I had decided to stop buying them unless I could get a lot better seats.

What happened after the break.

The email telling me to go to the stadium for select a seat said to be there 15 minutes before my 3:30 appointment. I got there at 3 and entered the suite entrance by Gate 4, right behind home plate. They had a nice spread of free food and drinks! Free, Yankee Stadium, you read that right! I had a Hotdog and Pepsi Max. I inspected where the seats were going to be available on a big seating diagram with colored pins. I made note on a seating chart on letter size paper. I was ready with quite a few minutes to spare.

There were not very many people there at once. I estimate only between 50 and 100 in that ½ hour slot. I did not try to find out when the next group was due. When time came I went upstairs in one of the big elevators, not crowded, and hastened to the area where there were seats I would consider.

There were virtually no Saturday or Sunday packs I could afford. There were some Friday pack seats. I settled for a Friday pack, Section 314, Row 7, seats 21 and 22. These are the back seats in that section, but there are very few steps, no one to block with an umbrella, and they are almost in as far as first base. The seats are more expensive than what we had before, and they are not ideal from a day point of view, but they are much better than I had. They are really much better.

I went back down to the suite and paid the extra money for the better seats. Then I posed beside the most recent WS trophy. I left the Stadium as happy as if I’d just seen a walk off against Boston. This is a new attempt by the Yanks to improve their customer service and I’ll tell you, It really worked for me.

I’m ready for Spring. My first tickets are Thurs., April 7 vs the Twins. Play Ball!
