Criticizing Joe Girardi on last night's removal of Bartolo Colon is the worst kind of second-guessing. If Mariano Rivera had just done what he usually does, there would be nothing to criticize. Yes, Colon was dominant, and yes, he had thrown fewer than 90 pitches, but this is a guy who had been out of baseball last year. He could turn back into a pumpkin at any time, with any pitch. There is little justification for pushing one's luck. Beyond that, you've got a bloody Hall of Famer in the bullpen waiting to back him up, the by-acclimation greatest closer of all time. It's not like Girardi pulled him for Dale Polley.
So... Cut it out. And that's all there is to say about that.
