Anyone Else Sick of Girardi

There is a laundry list of concerns I have with Joe Girardi, but I am only going to focus on the major problem I have and that was regarding last nights game and numerous others like it.  He refuses to take these final games seriously and is not learning from mistakes.  I'm not suggesting we should wear everyone out before the postseason but I do think this 4 game series vs the Rays should suggest playing our best. In the exact mirror image of last week's game, we played the rays with Garza and nova on the hill. Last week we went up 6-0 and blew the lead, last night it was 4-0.  Either way if we have learned anything it's that Ivan Nova struggles in the 5th and 6th as hitters start to see him a 2nd and 3rd time (hardly PC related).  Last week he gave up the 6 runs and blew the lead, so knowing that last night Joe left him in too long and then after pulling him for Logan (who had nothing), he went to...Chad Gaudin??? Bases chucked 4-3 Yankees and Gaudin is the best we got?  I know its the 6th inning but HAVE A SENSE OF URGENCY.  Joba went unused last night and it would have been fine to see him get 1 out there and maintain the lead.  I just really cannot support that managerial decision to leave Nova in and then use Gaudin.  Asking to give up the lead? You bet ya.  I hope it doesn't bite us in the butt because I think winning the division means a lot.  I want homefield in both rounds, i dunno about Joe.

leaving Nova in is okay.

Really shouldn’t have an issue with that. Gaudin however, is the issue. No way should he have been on the mound

It should be very easy to know when to use Chad Gaudin. Look around for the Wagoners. If they’ve already left the stadium to beat traffic, it’s ok to put in The Chad.

If people in pink Yankees hats and wearing New York Yankees 2010 World Series Champions shirts over their Miami Heat Lebron James jerseys are still in their seats, leave Chad in the bullpen.

Once the game has been decided enough that they lose interest and leave….fine, put him in and let him pitch the rest of the game for all I care.

Your brilliant strategy bombed today! All the wagoners left during the delay! Girardi got confused! You call yourself an armchair manager? Shame on you!

What is it with the Girardi bashing?

The Yankees r the defending champs, right? And they do have the best record in baseball, right? The bottom line is that some Yankee fans are not going to be satisfied unless they go 162-0 and win the world series every year. Please….its ridiculous!

by bronx joey on Sep 21, 2010 8:45 PM EDT reply actions

And four days later...

…and now they are the 3rd best record in the AL, and 4th overall behind the Phillies, the Rays, and the Twins, and with the way JoeG has been “managing”, i think the Yanks will not get very far in the playoffs.

Then again with comments such as “the NYY have the best record and are still the champions” its easy to spot “fans” who know next to nothing of baseball.

I don’t think the yankees need to go 162-0, but at least half the games they’ve lost of the past 10 loses could have been won if JoeG at least bunted, ran, or made the proper pitching change (examples: yesterday he gave up against the BoSox because the game was 5-1, and ended up losing 10-8, in the last game versus Tampa JoeG gave up and replaced every starter, just when Tampa has had two 7run innings versus the NYY in the past two series, and innings of 4 runs or better, he basically sent the message to his players of “we can’t do the same, this game is lost, it’s not worth it to make an effort”).

by Mikhel Barajas on Sep 25, 2010 3:52 PM EDT up reply actions

but at least half the games they’ve lost of the past 10 losses could have been won if JoeG at least bunted

You lost all your credibility after saying this. Giving up an out to advance baserunners actually decreases your team’s odds of scoring. The only guys that should be bunting are pitchers and guys with crazy speed like gardner who can beat out bunts for hits.

The real questions should be

is anyone sick of the complaining about Girardi?

by Yankees10 on Sep 22, 2010 12:19 PM EDT reply actions

Yes.

some of the stuff is warranted.

But I think people need to realize that while criticism is OK, the idea you must get rid of him for that is ignorant.

Its like whatever manager comes here for Girardi will be God’s Gift to managing, when the fact is the next dork will find some other way to convince them to complain.

Yes I agree completely

Criticism is ok, and I definitely disagree with some of the things he does, but like you said, saying we should get rid of him or saying hes just “along for the ride” gets real old

Girardi can stay

The only beef i’ve had with him the last two years is his allegiance to Mitre which is very odd. Gaudin and Mitre are probably off the postseason roster, so its not like we’ll see a repeat of that situation anyway. Plus, we won right? and guys were rested in the process. It was risky but that depends how you define risk when you are a lock to make the wild card.

If you're a real Yankee fan, please do the rest of us a favor and splurge the extra cash on a replica jersey without a last name on the back. Frankly, it's embarassing.

by total hermination on Sep 22, 2010 2:19 PM EDT reply actions

Just because Girardi doesn't manage the way you would have, is no reason to be sick of him.

He is the defending World Champion, and his team has the best record in baseball.

How do you get around those facts? Don’t you think if the Yankees had better pitchers than Mitre and Gaudin that they would use them? Should he take out Ivan Nova after 4 innings to insure that he doesn’t blow up in the 5th? We could put in Gaudin or Mitre then, since they are the long relief.

You forgot to go on a rant about Austin Kearns or Ramiro Pena. What’s up with that?

Unbelievable.

Time to wake up kiddies....The Twins are now the best!!!

The Yankees NO longer have the best record in baseball…..That now belongs to the Twins!!! The way Joe is managing, you have to wonder if he wants the Yankees to make it easy for him to leave for Chicago…With the roster the Yankees had last year, Bonzo the Chimp would have won the world series…Of course the way Joe looks hanging over the dugout rail, it might just be Bonzo…He has no feel for managing…just looks at his spreadsheets…

The Twins also play in a far weaker division than the Yankees

Please, I BEG you, try and prove that the Twins are a better team than the Yankees. I’m all ears.

...

Winning percentage
Twins 0.601
NYY 0.597

ERA
Twins 3.78
NYY 3.99

Walks issued
Twins 355
NYY 503

WHIP
Twins 1.28
NYY 1.30

Batting Average
Twins 0.277 (best in the AL), 0.287 at home, 0.267 away
NYY 0.268, 0.281 at home, 0.256 away (so much for being a wild card that has to go for 3 games to Minnesota)

Before the All-Star the twins and the yanks were batting 0.271, after the All-Star the twins now are batting 0.284 and the yanks 0.264

In clutch situations:
Average with men on scoring position
Twins 0.284
NYY 0.261

Average with men on scoring position and 2 outs
Twins 0.291
NYY 0.248

Altough with the bases loaded the Yankees are the best team and were batting a lot until one month ago.

by Mikhel Barajas on Sep 25, 2010 4:04 PM EDT up reply actions

Omg, they have a better batting average than us? What an indictment against our offense! I would be really worried if not for the fact that batting average tells next to nothing about overall offense, and that our wOBA is best in baseball at .348 verses the Twins .337.

As far as pitching goes, I’ll take CC over Liriano. As much as I hate saying it, Pavano has been good this year, but he wouldn’t match up if good AJ shows up. Duensing vs. petitte goes to andy if he’s really healthy, and hughes has the advantage over Blackburn. Then, throw in that we have the best bullpen ERA in the majors.

don’t get me wrong, I know that the twins are a very good team, but I don’t think they’re better.

holy crap man

if they have the higher batting average, they always win right?

All of what you just listed means absolutely nothing

Here is what you need to know…

Twins vs. AL Central: 46-22 …. Twins vs. AL East: 14-18

Yankees vs. AL Central: 23-15 … Yankees vs. AL East: 35-30

The AL East is MUCH more competitive than the Indians, Royals, White Sox and Tigers. Rays and Red Sox are two of the top four teams in baseball. Toronto has proven to be quite a nuisance this year and the Orioles have been reborn. Playing all those teams 18 times is much more difficult than playing every AL Central team 18 times. If the Twins played in the AL East, I’m positive they would have a very different looking record.

I love the "Twins play in a weak division" argument

Especially when it’s coming from a team with a worse record, like…well, every team in baseball right now.

The beard abides.

by Jason Kubel's Beard on Sep 24, 2010 4:19 PM EDT reply actions

well, you played one less game

but have the same amount of wins.

And how is it not an argument? The White Sox and Tigers aren’t even as good as the 4th place team in the Yankees division.

The Yankees don’t get about 36 games against the Royals and Indians either. If you don’t think that plays into you’re record…you’re absolutely out of your mind.

it's true

that’s funny, you guys have the best record for 1 day now and are already talking trash.

Face it, the White Sox and Tigers, the “good” teams in your division probably aren’t much better than the Jays if at all.

Will card

I’m mad and very sick about the stupid desicion that Joe Girardi have made. When a pitcher have more than 100 deliveiries at home plate why not use Kevin Woods why waite until the bases are loaded.
When A rob was in the dissable list the yankees win 8 strait game and his replacment play macnificent, when A Suck came back the Yankees loose many games.
Sit A S#@*! and get a better 3B.
Mistake1(huge) the yankees have an excelent bull pen why not used this picthers
Mistake 2. Whe Joe see a batter swinging ball that hit the ground or are sky hight or not making efford to cacht a fly ball, Why not removing him from the game. Even I who had little knowledge will made a better desicions. Please Joe G remove A R for the rest of this season and the Yankees will win again and maybe the world series. Take my words J.G with A.S in the line up the yankees may not make it this year and may be eliminated very soon. Just let Tony Pena take over Please.
