Yankees All-Time Roster: Third Base
Let's try something different for this poll. Here are the choices I came up with for best Yankees third baseman of all-time.
Here are the choices.
Please read the updated rules after the jump.
No comments got the necessary 3 recs as of the time I posted the poll, so the four names stay the same.
Remember this is about their Yankees career, so keep that in consideration when thinking about players that have played for multiple teams.

It's A-Rod by a long shot
Wade Boggs would be in the discussion if he played the way he did earlier in his career for Boston, but I would add him anyways as he has the best ERA for a third-baseman.
This one is easy
it’s A-Rod by a mile.
I don’t understand what you are asking us to do though. If you are asking us to add players to these four, well then, Scott Brosius should be in the discussion at least. He wasn’t the best in the league, but he did his job, played solid D, and came up with a lot of incredibly clutch hits, and won World Series. Thats the definition of a Yankee.
I hate all Boston sports teams
Here's what I am asking you to do
Do NOT comment who you think out of those four is the best.
Do comment a player that should be in the poll other than those four.
If you get three recs he’s in. (If it’s a serious player, Yankees10)

that home run is just so famous in yankees history though
he had to get mentioned

Yeah i'm serious about Boone
I wouldnt vote for him, but hes the only 3B I could think of, and hes really notable for the homer
Scott Brosius

Two Names
Wade Boggs: 17.1 WAR in 2600 PA over 5 years with the Yankees = 3.9 WAR/600 PA
Home Run Baker: 18.7 WAR in 2820 PA over 6 years with the Yankees = 4.0 WAR/600 PA
Both seem to be somewhat better options than Boyer. Dugan (5.4 WAR over 3328 PA = 1.0 WAR/600 PA) doesn’t belong on the poll. Neither does Brosius because he was only a Yankee for 4 years and wasn’t very productive (8.1 WAR over 2129 PA = 2.3 WAR/600 PA).
I think a 5 man field of Rodriguez, Nettles, Baker, Boggs and Boyer is appropriate.

Boggs and Baker are good choices
“Home Run” is one of the greatest nicknames ever, too. It’s especially great considering that he didn’t hit that many home runs.

Eduardo Nunez demands a recount.

What about
The late Celerino Sanchez? He was a huge contributor to the Yankees success in the late 70’s. His mere presence on he roster singlehandedly made the acquisition of Nettles necesary. :-)
Im I the only one that thinks Nettles should win?
They didn't let me out, they just gave me a day pass.
Nettles
"You don't realize how easy this game is until you get up in that broadcasting booth." Mickey
I loved watching Nettles play, told him so at Fantasy Camp
But when push comes to shove, it’s hard to argue with multiple MVP, 600 and counting HRs and a likely HoF entry. If you’re going to get mad at A-Rod for steroids, get mad at Nettles for doctoring his bat.
...who is the only other man to start 1000 games at 3B for the Yanks besides Nettles

It's Nettles. Cbeck3 and Melkman, I don't know how old you are, but if you saw Nettles play, then you appreciate the whole player.
Anyone who says “ARod, 600 homers” hasn’t been reading the rules. Look at what they’ve done as a Yankee. Nettles was a Yankee for a long long time. Most of his 390 career homers came as a Yankee. As good a 3rd baseman as some of you think ARod is, he couldn’t carry Nettles’ glove. Nettles never embarassed the team with his on or off- field conduct, and he scores bonus points for actually landing punches in fights with the Red Sox.

hate to tell you
A-Rod’s 259 career Yankee HR’s are more then Nettles’ 250 career Yankee HR. Nettles was an incredible fielder, but its really not like A-Rod is a slouch, he’s a very good fielding 3B.
A-Rod’s 149 OPS+ really trumps Nettles 114 OPS+ as well, so I’d say the jock holding in A-Rod’s favor out-duels anything the fielding jock holding can muster.
I dunno where he embarrassed the team either….

ARod hasn't embarassed the team? Wow. I didn't see that claim coming.
Since I am not a fan of stats like WAR and OPS+, I will not argue them with you. All I will say about Nettles’ game is that you had to be there.
Nettles never had to fess up to Roiding while on his previous team, or anything of the sort. He was more of a gamer than ARod ever was or will be. SABR stats don’t show that, but it is so. He played over 1500 games as a Yankee.
It’s sad that people are wrapped up in numbers.

When a player decides to take an illegal substances or drug
That will alter their performance for the better or worse, that’s their decision. In no way does that mean the Yankees supplied guys like Giambi, Rodriguez and Clemens. Those are PERSONAL decisions that they made by themselves. The fact that Clemens is being arraigned has no effect on the Yankee organization. I doubt they’re embarrassed at all.

yea
numbers don’t matter.
A-Rod embarrassed the team so much that after he admitted to roiding, the Yanks won the World Series. And in the playoffs it was largely cuz of him.
What an embarrassment.
If that’s all Nettles has on A-Rod, he has nothing.
+1
