I really think the Yankees
are NOT going to go after Lee rather put together a trade for a younger, cheaper starter. We’ve got good talent at catcher and pitcher in the minors and i think a trade is more likely than a Lee signing.

But, I was thinking Zito in his 2nd year – 2008 (10-17 5.15 era) vs. AJ in his 2nd year.
For the Giants Zito is 39-52 with a 4.39 ERA…. I guess that is OK for the 5th highest paid pitcher in 2010.
That is similar to what AJ could be … decently, slightly above average (he should have a better record given the Yank’s offense) for a lot of money.

I don’t care what the situation is.
Personally I was sort of rooting for the Rays this series. If the Yankees keep playing this way, they won’t win the division regardless of what happens. But if the Rays crush the Red Sox then at least the Red Sox are completely torn apart and not still hanging around and the Yanks still have a playoff spot all but locked up.
And if the Yanks pick it up, well then, I’m still rooting for the Rays, because a hot Yankees team will win the division regardless of how the Rays play.

nobody complained about him starting in the playoffs last year though. This year he had that one awful month in June. If you take that month out he’s actually had a rather normal year for him.
The Yanks need four starters in the postseason. It’s not like Javy has been any better (in fact, he’s been worse), Hughes has been pretty bad lately, and Moseley/Nova aren’t reliable enough. People love to get on A.J., but he hasn’t been the only pitcher in the rotation to be struggling lately. If he was, then the Yanks wouldn’t be losing as often as they have.

Javy has been awful this year too
and it’s not like Hughes has been any better lately (remember his last start?).
My point is that everybody loves to bash A.J. Burnett every time he pitches poorly, and talking about how you would “take Javy or Hughes or Moseley/Nova (really?) over him”, when the reality is that none of those guys have the same pedigree, or have been pitching a whole lot better, than Burnett has been. Burnett could come out and have 2 dominant starts in a row, but then his next bad start people will start trashing him again and trying to come up with a reason to demote him to the bullpen, and I don’t think thats fair.

or anything like that. Im just saying that, come postseason, I dont think he deserves to be in the rotation. Javy hasnt been that spectacular, but hes been better than AJ, in my opinion. Hughes has been fine. Hes only had a couple of bad starts. Burnett needs some time to sort things out. And until he does, I dont think he should be pitching.

Those of you seem to think that the Steinbrenner’s don’t care if they overpay AJ, should also agree then that it may be time for AJ to go “properly to the bullpen.” 3 of his last 5 were implosions… He handily beat KC (whippee!) and did well against TX(!). He may need a day off to think… Heck, nothing like a relief appearance to remind him about things….
It is true he was lights out in April and July. But even then … he struggles against .500+ teams (Except Texas for some reason)!
Mitre is quietly kicking ass…. He really only had 1 bad game all year!

AJ is the new Kevin Brown
Only he’s a bit more like-able..Right now he’s one of the worst pitchers in baseball—period. More than half the time he’s blown the game by the first three innings if not the first two or even the first.
My second point – as always i consider Cashman a complete incompetent who has done next to nothing significant to help the team this year and a lot of bad. But how can any of you excuse the fact that when Petite went down 7/18 and AJ and Vasquez were already .500 of less and falling and the trade dealine was like two weeks away, He could have acquired a good pitcher like Ted Lilly for instance who is 4 or 5 and ) with th uselss Dodgers since his trade… HOW CAN ANY OF YOU SUPPORT THIS GUY?

lol..Thats the only problem with having great looking prospects, everyone wants them if you try to make a trade, even smaller trades . Javy was pitching great back then if I remember right his .500 record was because of the start of the season and no run support. After his shakey start Javy was a different pitcher.
He did try to get Cliff Lee which I didn’t like, AJ usually will have a few awesome sarts mixed in with the terrible ones, but we have not seen that the last few games.
