Around SBN: Events Cause Mariners To Lose To Rangers

This deserves its own fanshot.

As George Costanza would say, Seattle did "a complete 360."

- Yanks upset with Seattle over apparently backing out of deal.

- This a great situation for the Yanks. Texas is in a similar position to Milwaukee two years ago. A good, not great team with a small chance to re-sign their ace. We could see Lee pitching to Montero in 2011.

Seattle is DUMB

Trading Lee within the same division. How can the rest of the owners allow this trade with the Rangers for sale/bankrupt?

That said, The Yankees STILL win the WS, and pick up Lee in the offseason. And we keep Jesus as trade bait down the road.

by qtopplings on Jul 9, 2010 5:43 PM EDT reply actions

Yeah but

There’s really nowhere for him on the Yankee roster, that’s been made perfectly clear by the decision to trade him (and to offer him during the offseason in another trade).

by qtopplings on Jul 9, 2010 5:47 PM EDT up reply actions

Sure there's room...

at Catcher. If Montero can catch at all, even at just Posada’s level, he’ll be our catcher for a long time. If he’s never able to be a main catcher, he can do what Victor Martinez does and play several positions like 1B, C, or a corner OF spot along with DH’ing. If he turns into a Miguel Cabrera type offensive player, they’ll find somewhere to put him…

trading for half a season of Lee by giving up the entire career of someone who has a chance to be a Cabrera or Ramirez type hitter would be really stupid. Even if Montero misses he should still be a pretty good hitter, but the upside on him is extremely high.

by Wraithpk on Jul 9, 2010 7:13 PM EDT up reply actions

Yanks had to be in the mix though

If the Rays had gotten Lee, it wouldve been a problem. I dont care either way but people being pissy over Cashman trying to improve the team by aquiring the games top lefty is stupid.

But why trade away a prospect who could be a difference maker when we can get Lee in the offseason anyway?

by Wraithpk on Jul 9, 2010 7:17 PM EDT up reply actions

Because we have Hughes with an innings limit, Andy has been spectacular but he is still no spring chicken

And AJ has always been a mixed bag. Yanks had to try. If Texas beats the Yanks in the ALDS behind two strong Lee starts, Montero should get a few shout outs, lol.
