Follow Yankees' Trade Rumors

The non-waiver MLB trade deadline is just a few weeks away. What do you want our New York Yankees to do?

Say the heck with it, be bold and jump into the Cliff Lee Derby? Get some bullpen help so that, maybe, we say say 'sayonara' to Chan Ho Park? Find a reserve middle infielder who can hit a little bit in the event Alex Rodriguez' hip flares up again? Find an outfielder, maybe a right-handed hitter, who can upgrade the bench? Do nothing?

You can follow all the Yankees' trade rumors over at SB Nation New York, where we are doing our best to sift through the maze of information and keep you up to date on the important stuff.

Of course, if anything big starts to percolate -- or actually happens -- we will have full analysis and discussion of it here.

CHoP is South Korean, not Japanese… Google says goodbye is “Ahhn niyong.”

I think bullpen help is priority 1, but 1A should be a super utility player. I love Pena’s defense, and over the course of 162 games, I don’t think his offense hurts the Yankees. But in the playoffs, facing the best pitchers, a stronger bat would be valuable.

Just FYI, I think “Ahhn niyong” is used for both arrival and departure greetings (like ‘Aloha’). Anybody who watched Arrested Development should be aware of this on some level.

I agree that we need to rethink the bullpen, but I think that we can do at least some of that from within the organization. I’d like Royce Ring to get another shot at the majors. His last, for Atlanta, didn’t go well – but he’s pitching quite well for Scranton right now. Also, Albaladejo is just about ready for another chance. He’s been taring up AAA some pretty amazing stats, including an IL leading 27 saves (7 more than the highest competitor).

Also, how about a real DH? Johnson is supposed to be coming back right around the trading deadline, but I’m not confident that he can stay healthy.

by qortra on Jul 8, 2010 9:31 AM EDT up reply actions

I would prefer that the Yankees not give up prospects for a mid-season DH. Really though, I want Matsui back. I was hoping that the Angels would be so far out of first that they would be having a firesale to get rid of everybody. Stupid Seattle.

by qortra on Jul 8, 2010 10:00 AM EDT up reply actions

Offense isn’t the issue. I like the concept right now of keeping the DH spot open for players who need a day off from fielding.

by Scooby Snacks on Jul 8, 2010 1:25 PM EDT up reply actions

Johnson is a no go no show

And should void hhis contract or trade him immediately or as soon as can. Having him the lineup is giving away a sure out every at bat. He was and is a waste of time and the Yanks shoiuld make the move now.

I just don’t. He can take his .167 average and .388 OBP to a team that needs that kind of production. I like the team the way it is right now.

But Nick Johnson is fat and slow and doesn’t look athletic! There’s no way he can possibly contribute in any way! This is just new age mumbo jumbo, I want Nick Punto, he just looks like a baseball player.

Yeah, the team is good, but getting Nick Johnson back means less of Ramiro Pena, Cervelli, and Curtis in the starting lineup.

I don’t understand why anyone would be against clearly improving the lineup by getting another bat back. If he gets injured again, we’re right back where we started. There is literally no downside.

Adding Cliff Lee to the Yanks’ rotation would be huge, and it would prevent him form going to another contender. I don’t want Tampa or Philly to grab him.

by jessie1 on Jul 8, 2010 9:21 AM EDT reply actions

No to renting Cliff Lee for 3 months, at the expense of prospects, or anybody else

they would want for him. He’s already indicated he’ll test out the free agent waters at the end of the season. That’s the time to go after him, not now.

by HilltopPark on Jul 8, 2010 10:56 AM EDT up reply actions

They only go after Lee if there is a risk he will sign an extension. (e.g. Mets get involved)

It appears though that Lee is committed to free agency, and he’s the Yanks number one target in the winter along with one of the big corner outfielders.

I was wondering that myself. All our outfielders are young, healthy and reasonably productive (though Granderson is in something of a dry spell).

Honestly, we don’t really have any holes right now, with the exception of a healthy DH and a reliable bullpen.

by qortra on Jul 8, 2010 12:37 PM EDT up reply actions

Sign Crawford or Worth and send Granderson packing.

Both are better all around hitters. Put Gardner in center full time. Granderson’s contract is still very tradeable.

maybe we sign one if Granderson completely sucks the rest of the season but not both. And it would probably be crawford over werth

Bullpen

Tex and A-Rod are hitting homers now….the team scores more than enough runs, and the SP is perfectly fine.

Tweak the bullpen, maybe get some experience on the bench and call it a day.

In the end, this team is a defending champ, has the best record, and no team has owned the Yanks this year. If it aint broke, dont fix it.

Yanks win World Series in 5 games. Oh, is it too early to predict that? I dont think so.

by Ragnar808 on Jul 8, 2010 9:47 AM EDT reply actions

This

Bullpen has to be priority #1. Upgrading your bench-utility infielder or a RH outfielder to platoon with Granderson (I can dream) is also not a bad idea, but not as important. I’d be willing to give Melancon and Abaladejo additional tryouts.

Wigginton

should be our first priority. I like Pena but with the older players getting more days off or days at DH, I like him if he isn’t too expensive. Same thing with a reliever, try to get a good one as long as the team isn’t asking for top prospects. Lee would be nice but who do you take out of the rotation? CC, Burnett,Pettitte aren’t going anywhere, Javy has been pitching very well of late, and while Hughes is on an innings limit, I’m sure we could find a spot starter in the minors if we needed one. I also wouldn’t mind a backup OF either. I’ve been tough on Gradersons struggles but there’s no reason to overpay for a part-time player.

thats the most important thing. If they can get that, I’d like them to get another bat that can be a DH (Adam Dunn, Johnny Damon, Ty Wiggington), but the first priority should be to get a bullpen arm.

There's no need

All the rotation spots are filled and everyone is pitching well. Why give up a top prospect for someone you don’t need. IF they were to trade one of them I’d assume it woudl be Montero because of his lack of defensive skills and it looks like they’ll need the DH for A-Rod with in the next 2-3 years.

Don’t help the bench. I don’t see how Thames or NJ (when they aren’t the DH) would be a problem off the bench. Pena could be a Defensive sub for closer games once Thames and NJ are back in the picture completely.

Don’t bother with Wiggy. He plays for a Division rival, and he’s now an All-Star, all the more reasons for the Orioles to give us a hard time for what would end up being an overpaid bench player.

Don’t go after Lee. Obvious reasons.

Don’t try to sign another outfielder. Swish, GGBG, and Grandy are fine. There is no need to platoon Grandy and insert outfielder here. Grandy will be fine, and if he is our biggest offensive concern, than we look like were in good shape.

I meant he could possibly be our DH for the rest of the year or until NJ is fully healed (which might be never). I think the Yanks squeeze as much catching out of Posada as they can and give him a 2 or three year deal. I don’t think either Romine or Montero are cut out to catch a full season in 2011 so we’re going to need Posada as our primary C/ DH/ mentor for Romine or Montero.

No Cliff Lee rental for great prospects. Gardner to CF full time – pick up Nady to platoon with Granderson in LF – if Granderson keeps at the .225 mark, play Nady full time. Nady's numbers are MARGINAL better

Give Granderson some time… he was hurt for a month and he’s a proven All Star. Have some faith that he’ll turn it around before you look to start dealing for another outfielder.

Has more to do with the fact

that we need a power bat off the bench. I do like the platoon idea tho.

Grandy

won’t be moved to LF this season, would have done that in ST, if he still here next spring,
that could be a possibility next year. As for Nady, meh, LH bat would be more useful.

Let Grandy play against the righties and Nady against lefties sounds good to me.

Nady? ru kidding!?

We picked up Nady in his career year, and then he blew out his elbow so forget him!! The Yanks need to get rid of Park and trade him out of NY asap, give albaladejo or one of they’re other young arms from AAA a chance, and get a UTIL guy off the bench, this is why I kind of wish they did resign Jerry Hariston Jr to come off the bench.
