Pitching and Defense Power Yankees to 3-1 Win
Despite a tiny, shifting strike zone, Javy Vazquez made enough pitches to hold Oakland to one run over seven innings.
Yankee pitchers recorded just four punch-outs, meaning that the other 23 outs had to be made by the defense. We saw the best defensive outfield: from left to right, Brett Gardner, Curtis Granderson and Colin Curtis. Along with A-Rod, they all made plays ranging from 'pretty nice' to extraordinary.
When your pitching and defense hold the opponent to one run, it makes every offensive contribution seem 'clutch.' A two-run rally in the second (Swisher double, Grandy triple, Cervelli single) and Tex's solo shot in the sixth were all the runs the Yankees needed.
Play of the Game: Mark Teixeira's homer in the sixth inning gave the Yanks an insurance run (+13%).

Guess we were bad tonight haha.
Well-pitched game by Javy.
Did you know Joe Morgan thinks Cano will win a batting title one day?
It was just posted, the COG usually comes a few mins late

Ah, gotcha.
Not sure if I’ve ever been here RIGHT when the recap is posted.

The strike zone was horrible.
But Javy was great.

Whoa! Recap!
I was like “Where did everyone go?”
So here’s an interesting question that I can’t answer because I’m, well, pretty lazy…. despite Joe Morgan’s sermons, Robbie Cano is no longer in the lead for the batting title, and his average has dropped about 30 points since I last was able to watch a game… Now, there was at least one ball today that he scorched that was caught, and that left me wondering how much of his average dipping below the .350-370 range is due to bad luck over the past week. /longwinded paragraph.
Now the question: does anyone have his BABIP over the past say, 8 days? I bet it’s significantly lower than his season average, and that might indicate that it’ll take some pretty poor luck as the season continues for him NOT to hit around .360….
ask and ye shall receive
BABIP
last 10 gms: .176
8: .148
7: .130
so he’s getting very unlucky lately. however, his BABIP (.348) is still higher than his career norm (.324).
Lousy West Coast games

Twins offer Mariners two Prospects for Cliff Lee
I’d rather he go there than to the Red Sox. If anything, I thought the Mets might make Lee an offer.

Heh
If I wasn’t uploading something to YouTube, I could actually see who the Twins offered up.

Ramos is a Catcher who was up earlier this year
And Hicks is an OF who is ranked among top 50 spects
Nevermind, I finally got the article.
Hmmmm, the Mets could offer Thole & Fernando Martinez to counter.
"WHO WOULD LEAD?! THE CLOWN?!"
by I'mGivingYouARaise on Jul 6, 2010 3:25 AM EDT up reply actions
Well, if I were the Mets, I wouldn't do it anyway.
Unlike the Twins, the Mets have a need for Thole in the future, since they don’t have Mauer on their team behind the plate. If I were the Mets, I’d offer up F-Mart and possibly Meija for Lee, but if they don’t take the offer, screw it and hope to sign him next year.
"WHO WOULD LEAD?! THE CLOWN?!"
by I'mGivingYouARaise on Jul 6, 2010 3:30 AM EDT up reply actions
Think moving Mejia would be a mistake unless Lee is signing a long term deal
If Im the Ms, I would rather have Mejia than Thole anyway.
Yeah, I agree.
I guess the hope would be that Lee could bring them to the playoffs, and then he’d sign. For that, I’d give up Meija.
I mean, if the Mets went into the playoffs with Lee, Santana, Pelf, & Dickey and move Tak back into the bullpen, they’ve got a good chance right there.

by I'mGivingYouARaise on Jul 6, 2010 3:34 AM EDT up reply actions
A Lee/Santana/Pelf big three would be as good as any in the game
If they couldnt make the playoffs with that rotation, they might as well just give up on ever winning anything.
Well the bullpen is still shaky.
The series against the Nats proved that. K-Rod blew Saturday’s game & they almost blew an 8-0 lead on Sunday.

Heh, they could make a play for Soria.

I think Soria would cost as much as Lee
If the Padres fade maybe they can get Bell, he wants to go back to the Mets
I don't think the Padres are going to give up Bell.
They’ve still got a legitimate shot.

Padres are best team in NL, and only AGon gets in
I guess Manuel wants the AL to get homefield again
It would seem that way to me
I would’ve also taken Strasburg as well.

Nearly blew Friday's game as well
I was at that game – four run lead in the 9th, the Nats scored 2 and had the tying runs on base and the winning run at the plate when the runner on second got picked off to end it.
Man, I’m still pissed off about that. Little league mistake, the Mets don’t even care if he scores because he wasn’t the tying run. Moron.
Shaky does not even begin to describe the Mets’ bullpen.
Yep
Hopefully we would miss them in the first round of the playoffs. Seeing him twice in a 5 game series is scary
by Jedi Master A-Rod on Jul 6, 2010 3:14 AM EDT up reply actions
Not at all
But even if he wins 2 games, it’s not ridiculous to assume someone could beat Liriano and Pavano to win the series.

Adam is REALLY good.

Also... reading between the whines
over at Halo Heaven about Jared Weaver not being an All-Star (and the overall insufferable indignities foisted upon Angels fans by the conspirators ESPN, Joe Girardi, MLB and the rest of the world) is just too good to pass up.
Like listening to a bunch of 14 year old girls outside Abercrombie complaining about Mom not giving them her credit card.
Priceless.
Well, they do have a case.
Weaver was robbed. He has the most strikeouts in the majors with a 2.82 ERA. WHIP a tiny bit above 1.00 I believe and he’s pitched a ton of innings.
But I see your point, it is rather funny. They should be more focused on getting back in the race in the AL West.

I actually hope Joe picks Weaver
I agree with you. Especially with the game in Anaheim. But then that would bust the whole conspiracy thing — and we can’t have that.
Yeah really
Pandamonium would ensue in Anaheim. Felix Hernandez has to replace Cahill because he should be in the game as well
