New York Yankee Notes: Not Done With Dunn
A few items as we want for the New York Yankees big series with Tampa Bay to begin tonight -- and to find out if the Yankees will do anything at the trade deadline.
- Ken Rosenthal tweets that the Yankees are still hot on the trail of Adam Dunn, despite statements to the contrary.
- Jorge Posada's knee is a problem for the Yankees at the trade deadline, especially since there is not much available on the catching market.
- Mike Silva of NY Baseball Digest wonders if it's time to change the trade deadline. It's not really a bad idea, especially since the waiver trades in August are sort of a joke.
- Chan Ho Park was pitiful in the ninth inning Thursday. It's About The Money wonders how much longer CHOP can stay on the Yankee roster. So do I, friends. So do I.
- Marcus Thames knew the ball would find him at third base Thursday night.

I've seen Luke Scott's name come up
instead of Dunn, and to be honest Scott would be a lot better of an option. Dude can flat out rake and I could imagine what he’d do as a LH bat with the Yanks.
I’ve always liked Adam Dunn, but it seems he’ll cost an arm and a leg…and really, for a DH….why? I guess the thought of him in the 2 hole as basically Nick Johnson..except he likes to hit the ball, is salivating.
…I dunno…I do think at this point something’s gonna happen. Seems the Yanks got their noses in everything and are determined to make something happen.
Go New York Go!
I wonder why they can't go after Russel Branyan tho
if they want a LH DH slugger…wouldn’t he cost the least in terms of prospects? Dude can MASH.

Dunn is better than all of those guys
and he’d be a nice power bat to have. It all depends on how much he would cost. Would he cost Montero/Romine, or a second tier like Nova or Z-Mac?
If it’s a package built around Z-Mac or Nova, then I would definitely do it, because Dunn can crush the ball.

well if thats true
than no, don’t do it. Romine and Montero should be untradeable. Especially Jesus, who is absolutely raking in AAA now.

I know he's better
but that means more to give up.
Why not get Luke Scott/Ty Wigginton + Will Ohmen from the O-Rings?

Just saying I'd rather have Dunn if they didn't have to give up too much
If it’s too much (which means Montero or Romine) then I agree with you. In fact, I sort of like the idea to get Russel Branyan, cuz he can also really hit. And Seattle is completely out of it and will be sellers as well.

We didn't give him up
So, obviously, Cashman is too

Dunn's a much better hitter than Scott, and he's younger as well
Having said that, I don’t think they should get either, if it costs them Montero and/or Romine. Better to actually use those guys themselves, or to offer them in a deal for a star.
agreed
not sure what the point would be of using montero to get a dunn. seems like half a step forward to take two backwards. why get rid of a younger better version of someone for something that we dont necessarily need this year.

We don't need Adam Dunn, as Free mentioned, Luke Scott will do and will likely be much cheaper

This has nothing to do with the post…but I just made this from a youtube video and wanted to try it out.
Anyone watch Baseball Tonight last night?
Did anyone else hear Buster Olney report the Yankees are still in on Dunn last night? Because I did, and I had a post about it this morning. See post here: http://www.lennysyankees.com/2010/07/olney-shermans-adam-dunn-to-yankees.html
I would love to have Dunn
but we just dont need him and I have no interest in giving up any good prospects that it will take to get him
How would you feel if the Rays got him? I don’t want him at all but…….
Since the face been revealed the game got real
who cares?
for real…we’re gonna get Dunn just so the Rays don’t? That’s scared management right there.
Dunn would be a great addition for the Yanks, and Rays for that matter…fact is, the Yanks are better then the Rays no matter where Dunn goes.
Andy Pettitte coming back, normal Tex and Grandy, Ardo’s on an RBI pace that he’s only topped once with the Yanks (2007 156RBI year). The Posada thing may be a bit of a concern I guesss…
Why do they always gotta go and patch up an injury with a great player? Andy Pettitte goes down, so then they need Dan Haren? Posada’s limping…so they need Dunn to DH?
Can’t they learn by Dustin Moseley? Even marginal players can go and get things done for a few games here and there. Let the old farts rest for the playoffs, they’ll be fine.
Just win. Entirely too many times this decade have they bought playres and not won the prize.
Their best trading deadline this decade was when they got JERRY HAIRSTON.

I agree Free, but hypothetically speaking
if they (Yankees) do get Dunn, I don’t like moving Swish out of the 2 hole. Swish still has a slightly higher OBP this year, and Dunn’s .509 SLG % suggests he bat 5th or 6th. Obviously 6th, so u don’t tamper with Robbie.
But for sure, you don’t run out and get someone just because you don’t want your competition to have him. One player can’t beat an entire winning team. If we were talking Pujols, Prince Fielder, Hart or even Ethier it would be a different story. But maybe Posada is raising some concern.

Being a Yankee fan in DC...
I hear they want pitching, i dont think they will want Montero because they just got Wilson Ramos from Minny. I think trading prospects for a guy that will most likely be a rental is just wrong. Dunn is having a very good year with the Nats but i think the Yanks dont need to trade for him when there are other reliable players that you can make a deal for that you wont have to give the farm up for them. I do believe they are probably trying to get him so no one else does and the fact that they have wiffed on Lee and Haren.
Well, if they do get someone, I hope it's just bench help.
Because the way Moseley pitched last night, I think our bullpen is looking better and better. Moseley has shown he has some good stuff and he looks like a very good middle/long relief replacement for Aceves. Logan looks decent as well, and I think Sergio is better served in the bullpen as well, plus I think he’ll improve as he pitches more. WIth D-Rob still looking very solid, if Joba continues to falter, then D-Rob can have his 8th inning job. As for Gaudin & CHOP, I just don’t know. CHOP looked great for the first inning, but then failed. So maybe he should just not be used over an inning. Or just DFA him & Gaudin and bring back up Albaledejo.

Luke Scott Yes... Adam Dunn No
Luke Scott would be a great addition at DH & off the bench. Scott probably could be had for low level prospects unlike Adam Dunn
Cash please keep our top prospects
Joba + low level prospects for Soria still sounds good to me & throw in CHOP plus Mitre for FREE!!

Soria's not gonna cost just Joba

What do you not understand about
1) We’re on Soria’s no-trade list
2) Like Free said, it’s going to cost the house for Soria

sources are probably the least reliable guys around
Yankees has closed the Cliff Lee deal
Yankees are the front runners for Haren
Great work guys!
Didn't he say he refuses to to DH?
he will just go home is what he said
Since the face been revealed the game got real
He's an awful fielder
Good luck wherever he goes

Been there, Dunn that.
Everything’s funny when you win. If Posada says he can play, then he can play. Why bother with another catcher? Bring up Moeller, or Montero, or Romine for a couple of weeks if you have to.
I was interested to see in the CHOP article that his WAR$ value is negative- he would have to pay to play. I’m trying to decide how much he would have to give me to let him pitch again, especially in a close game. Aceves is one workout from a rehab tour, which means about two weeks if all goes well. At that point, bye-bye CHOP. Unless Marte gets back sooner than Aceves, at which point it might be CHOP, or might be Loon Bogan.

"Marcus Thames knew the ball would find him at third base Thursday night."
Which is a coincidence, because the guy sitting seven rows up behind first base knew the ball would find him when Thames threw it.
+1
Like Chuck Knoblach!
