New York Yankees on no-trade list of Kansas City Royals' closer Joakim Soria
If the Yankees are indeed interested in acquiring Kansas City Royals All-Star closer Joakim Soria, they will face one more hurdle -- a no-trade clause.
The Yankees are one of the six teams on Soria's no-trade list, a baseball official with knowledge of the contract tells ESPN New York.

To guarantee we pick up his options? That way if he gets here and can’t take the heat he still gets his loot.
Strikeouts are boring- Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.

leverage
For an extension, I’d think, Also, I wonder if he gave the Royals some kind of home-town discount. It wouldn’t make sense to do that if you were going to be traded to the Yankees – but if that’s the case, I’d assume he also has the Red Sox, Mets, and other big-payroll teams on the list.

I’d name the teams most likely to acquire me.

Cuz
somebody named Rivera is the closer in this case?

Sorry Soria ...
This guy is an elite closer … Of course he doesn’t want to come to the Bronx. Two closers don’t usually work out. Lyle and Gossage, Putz and Krod … the dynamic just doesn’t translate. We’d be better suited to land a guy who doesn’t want to close, who understands his role and relishes the importance of it….

my favorite part of the ESPN article
It says Soria “could be a candidate to replace closer Mariano Rivera if he decides to retire in the next few years.” “If” Mo retires “in the next few years.” I love how everyone just accepts that this 40-year-old pitcher is going to pitch as long as he wants.

Do you mean...
the same pitcher with a sub-1.00 ERA and a 0.68 WHIP? At this point, the only Yankee on the roster that is totally in control of his career is Mariano. Even if he regresses over the next 2-3 years, he’ll still be in the top-15 relief pitchers. The guy is unbelievable.
Barring injury or apathy, Rivera will be the Yankees closer for the foreseeable future.
+1

I hear ya long time
I can’t say I read that often… “if he decides” to retire. That’s how much respect he’s garnered.
"‘cause he’s worried about everything, and he tries to win all the time."

Maybe he wonders if he has the stones to pitch in a city where people actually pay attention.
But either way, he has hurt my feelings horribly.
I feel inadequate, unloved, and rejected.

Maybe since KC has ask for his permission to waive the NTC,
he wants to retain the right to do a Mexican hat dance in their face first
Go New York Go!
Doesn't really shock me too much
he wants to close, and he won’t close as long as Mariano is on this team. Mariano has said that he wants to pitch as long as he can still be successful. He is showing zero signs of slowing down. In fact, it seems like he’s getting better. So if Mo can pitch, and does pitch, for 5+ more years than Soria won’t be the closer in the foreseeable future. Rivera will be.
Although how someone doesn’t want to go to the Yankees regardless of their role on the team is beyond me. It’s the Yankees!
Happy Birthday A-Rod! Now please hit #600 already.
he probably does get incentives for his #'s of saves.
Don’t blame him if that’s the case, he ain’t getting saves here for the foreseeable future.

Dude the Yanks could just make Mo a starter. BOOM problem solved
Since the face been revealed the game got real
It's all about the $$$
Assuming that he will continue to close succesfully until age 29(?) or 2013, Soria can command a much larger free agent contract than as Mo’s set-up guy. He’s young so it’s understandable that he wants to rake in as much as he can.

Mo is only 40 saves away from breaking Hoffman's record.
Whatever number he ends up with is going to be in the Hank Aaron/Cy Young/Dimaggio/Henderson realm as far as records go…unassailable without cheating.
And if Rivera pitches as long as Hoffman does (Hoffman is still pitching)
Then Mariano will likely break that record. Mo has caught up by 16 saves this year because Hoffman only has 5. It’d be awesome if he surpassed Trevor…
