Get Rid Of Michael Kay, Paul O'Neil and Al Leiter

Watching and listening to these idiots on MLB Extra Inning for past couple of years has caused me to mute my TV.

Too much talking and kidding around at nothing that relates to the game. Michael Kay is too comfortable in his job and I have noticed when he comments he makes a lot of mistakes. Paul O'Neil has no clue how to be a color commentator and Al Leiter is just plan screwy. This is just a case of the Yankees having a fat wallet and anything goes. Ken Singleton is very good.

Leiter’s fine…and O’Neil’s great. Mute the TV if you want, but pretty sure most like O’Neill.

O’Neil is funny as hell. He talks a lot of mess to and about Kay and I love it. This is baseball and not news coverage of a natural disaster right? Freaking lighten up and you don’t hear them joking around if the Yankees are getting beat by 8 or something. At least we agree Singleton is great.

Yeah huckleberry

Greatest sportscaster in Yankee history couldn’t see further than second base, usually forgot he was broadcasting the game, and never stuck around ’till the 9th to beat traffic home.

Broadcasters used to do 3 innings on TV, 3 on radio, then back to TV. Rizzuto came back in the 7th and realized he mada a mistake, losing sight of Reggie’s towering dinger and broadcast that Reggie hit it out of the stadium!!! A few friends saw me later and couldn’t believe Reggie hit one out of the stadium…pretty funny.

I like the group of guys they got now and I suddenly have a craving for a cannoli.

Disagree completely ...

I see Rizzuto, White and Messer in those hamheads. They are funny — especially O’Neill. It seems a great many folks love to hate Michael Kay … for what? Because he holds the best job in the country? He’s decent. He engages Singleton and O’Neill and picks their brains for insight. Sure he gets abit dopey sometime and rants, so what he’s WAY better than just about every other announcer I’ve listened to on MLB package.

As a former pitcher and catcher, Leiter and Flaherty bring great insight into the dynamic of pitchers and catchers. I’ve actually been pretty impressed with Flaherty this season. He’s gotten much better.

What I don’t want is someone like Joe Buck or McCarver … Buck’s ego stifles any enjoyment I might derive from watching a game he’s calling. Give me the homer who is goofy, who loves his job, and who is infectious. That’s what we’ve got, and I rather like the mix.

I am a h8r...

I hate Michael Kay, there I said it. Joe Buck is his long lost brother. Look at their enoumous heads and lack of broadcasting skills. As for my choice of underwear (since you’re so interested) I wear fruit of the loom boxers or sometimes none at all. It gets really hot here like 120F hot sometimes. I appreciate your sympathy for me Ronster, but none is needed. If you read the majority of the posts here, the OVERWHELMING sentiment is that as a broadcaster Michael Kay is less than.

I find Kay to be pretty awful

the only thing i really notice with him is he tries to use big words to sound smart. i never hear any good input from him about the game itself. if he says anything its probably building off of something that paulie, leiter or singleton said.

singleton gets on my nerves sometimes cause he’ll randomly bring up his playing days. there was one when he was talking about how nolan ryan no-hit his team, and he had the most well hit ball of the day, a ground ball. lol

the only thing i could think in my head was, wow, you would say you had the most well hit ball of the day in a no hitter. lmao

Again, Yankee Fans Don't Know How Good We've Got It

Here in DC, Bob Carpenter is good but Rob Dibble is a disaster, just awful. The O’s announcers are even more pathetic homers than most, which isn’t surprising considering Angelos ran Jon Miller out of town for noticing that the O’s, well, suck. I get the MLB digital cable package so I get to hear a lot of other announcing teams, and the quality isn’t so good. Leave Kay alone, he’s fine.

I’m always happy when Paulie is in the booth, too – I like a sense of fun. As someone else noted earlier, there’s enough serious crap going on in the world, let baseball be relaxed.

by d_c_guy on Jul 26, 2010 9:39 AM EDT reply actions

this.

Kay stinks, but the reality that compared to 90% of MLB announcers, probably more, Kay is better then sliced bread. These guys are all homers.

The only 2 that I can think are better are the Red Sox duo (surprisingly…) and Vin Scully….tho, well both fanbases will have plenty who don’t like them either.

Your kidding right?

Orsillo and Remy not homers? These guys are practically waving pom poms for the Red Sox. I will admit though, when they rip into the visiting team sometimes it’s funny.

Vin Scully IMO is the best out there now. He is like Bob Sheppard in the booth. Clear, concise, correct. Never has Kay-gasms over a routine fly ball to the warning track. I love it when announcers STFU and let me hear the crowd.

by almonte96b on Jul 27, 2010 7:50 AM EDT up reply actions

I watch a ton of Red Sox games

they’re really not. The network as a whole is definitely a bunch of homers, but Remy and Orsillo are pretty good with that.

Really every home booth is gonna have some homerism…except the Yankees of course, kinda seems Kay roots for the other team a lot

Paul Oneill is the funniest commentator on YES by far. The guy keeps it real as opposed to this stiff commentators who talk about the game and only the game. Singleton is good, Kay is whatever, Sterling is good, Flaherty does a good job breaking the game down, Leiter is smart too. Kim Jones also deserves some credit

by i says on Jul 26, 2010 4:45 PM EDT reply actions

I was under the impression that when Jerry Remy was acclaimed emperor of Red Sox Nation a few years ago that the question of whether he was a homer became redundant.

His calls of the game are not really biased at all, but I think he wears his tiara while doing the game, and his sceptre is under his seat.

Coincidentally, NESN has just let it become publicly known that their game broadcast ratings are off by 36% this year.

Perhaps we should all just listen to the Spanish language broadcast and have the benefit of either not understanding a word, or maybe picking up a new language skill.

Agree on Kay that's it

Paulie is great as a color guy, his job (in the rare event he is on) is to provide insight on situations and he nails it every time. He also constantly herbs up Kay which never gets old. On Flaherty, he’s a smart dude who has a very good TV voice considering he’s a former player. Not sure how long O’Neill will last in the business, but Flash has the tools to stick around for a while.

I totally agree on Kay’s no-hitter jinxing. “Sabathia is perfect through 1!!! Yankees coming to bat….”
