It's hilarious how people think the Yankees are "cheating" by spending a lot of money

Steinbrenner took his profits and reinvested them into the team. What’s wrong with doing this? I would love to hear what other fans have to say. They’re jealous they don’t have an owner as passionate as Steinbrenner. Most other owners are more greedy. Steinbrenner was an absolute genius and the greatest owner in sports. He will be truly missed.

I have no issue with the Yankees spending money, never have.
If they can, why not?

Thank you for being level-headed about it lol

I just can’t stand small market teams bitching.

If you weren’t from Boston and we weren’t from NY this could have been a beautiful moment…

The Heavens are crying over George’s death.. I can’t imagine how Hal and Hank feel right now. Its a sad sad day but it gives the Yankees a new motive to shoot for. WIN IT FOR THE BOSS.

RIP George

I missed the craziness but I was there in the late 1990’s and beyond, and I loved having Big George own the team. Who wouldn’t love an owner doing everything possible, rightly or wrongly, to win? Feeling a little stunned right now.

You just have to wonder what the Yankees will be right now if George was the owner of the Cleveland Indians. The best Yankee that never put on a jersey.

Sad news.

Makes me even happier the Yankees won a Championship in 2009.

Makes that “This One is for The Boss” sign even more special.

God bless Mr. Steinbrenner.

I'll wear my #27 Pinstripe jersey in his memory.

I had the pleasure of meeting The Boss several years ago at then-Legends Field in Tampa. NYY and Bosux were playing in pre-season, and The Boss was working the crowds from his box.
My brother-in-law was friends one or two of the NYY team, and got us an introduction.
Brief intro, but he was as pleasant in person as could be.

My father had been a Yankee fan forever, having played Legion Ball with Bobby Richardson and being signed to go to the minors with the team prior to a hunting accident. But, he didn’t like the way Steinbrenner handled things early on. So, he became a Braves fan. I think it was the idea of bringing Reggie in and then fighting with Billy Martin. For those of you old enough to remember those incidents, it was a rough time.

For a good commentary on the era, the Washington Post has a good article in The Plum LIne. Check it out. It accurately describes the atmosphere in the ’70s when The Boss took over.

RIP

RIP:" "The Boss"

I have seen both the best and worst as a long time Yankee fan over the years, but you can never deny that he wanted to always try to put the best product on the field for the NY fans. He was one of a kind ,and marched to the beat of his own drummer! God Bless the Yankee Doodle Dandy!
