Yankees 4, Orioles 2: CC now 13-1 vs. O's

CC Sabathia of the New York Yankees pitches against the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards on June 9, 2010 in Baltimore, Maryland.

For as bad as the Orioles have been this season, they seem to have played a lot of close games against the Yankees.

Tonight's game was no exception to that, as the Yankees rode (mostly) good pitching from CC Sabathia and scored a misleadingly low numbers of runs considering they actually had 10 hits and 5 walks.  Fortunately, the Orioles were just as inept in that department, only managing to score twice despite 13 baserunners.

Play of the Game: Who else would you expect?  Robinson Cano's 6th inning game-tying single increased the Yankees chances of winning by over 13%.

Quote of the Game: In a thread about CC's size and appetite, Jedi Master A-Rod said:

Now I’m going to have the image of CC as the Lard Lad doughnut boy from The Simpsons stuck in my head

Actually, that’s kuri in the background.
What sucks is I have to get a new laptop every time I hit the enter button with my banhammer.

also got to love the fact

that Boston was 2 hit by a former prospect that they traded to Cleveland for V-Mart (I believe).

Good day for the Yankees (and any Boston-haters).

And Cano! That guy can hit, huh? I heard he might win a batting title one day. Dunno if that’s gonna happen. /sarcasm

Weak man. There was a Taco Bell right across the street from where I lived this past semester, and they made so much money off of drunk people (who would overpay, not notice when stuff was missing, etc.).

It is so far down the road

I really think they want to eventually give Joba a shot at starting again.

by YankeesJets on Jun 10, 2010 12:45 AM EDT up reply actions

+1, I would like very much for next years rotation to be CC, AJ, Andy, Hughes, and Joba.

by Lord Duggan on Jun 10, 2010 12:46 AM EDT up reply actions

I would too, actually, but I don't think that's what they're thinking

And if Javy’s gone and they want to keep chamberlain in teh pen…it’s something to look at

"We're only going to score 17 points?"

by Edgware on Jun 10, 2010 12:47 AM EDT up reply actions

Cashman does NOT want to keep Joba in teh pen.

by Lord Duggan on Jun 10, 2010 12:48 AM EDT up reply actions

Joba is wasted in the pen

Guy has a lot of pitches, he doesnt want to be there either. Setup guys dont make the $$ that SPs do. Dont think that doesnt screw with Joba’s psyche.

by YankeesJets on Jun 10, 2010 12:49 AM EDT up reply actions

but remember, the way we screwed him up

he can only pitch the 8th…and NOTHING ELSE. not the 7th or the 17th, just teh 8th.

"We're only going to score 17 points?"

by Edgware on Jun 10, 2010 12:51 AM EDT up reply actions

perhaps he figures if he struggles in that role, he will go back to starting

"We're only going to score 17 points?"

by Edgware on Jun 10, 2010 12:53 AM EDT up reply actions

My only issue with Joba are his pitch counts.

He’ll go 0-2, then jump right up to 3-2.

"WHO WOULD LEAD?! THE CLOWN?!"

by I'mGivingYouARaise on Jun 10, 2010 12:56 AM EDT up reply actions

By throwing three sliders in the dirt…..EVERY time.

by Lord Duggan on Jun 10, 2010 12:56 AM EDT up reply actions

So it's not just me then!

Good. long time listener and I were talking about that today.

"WHO WOULD LEAD?! THE CLOWN?!"

by I'mGivingYouARaise on Jun 10, 2010 12:59 AM EDT up reply actions

No, it’s not just you. Joba is the most predictable pitcher in the major leagues. If his stuff is anything short of nasty, he gets hit hard because every hitter knows what’s coming.

Fastballs on the outside corner until he gets to two strikes, sliders on the glove side in the dirt for the attempted K.

by Lord Duggan on Jun 10, 2010 1:02 AM EDT up reply actions

He’s so talented, it’s a shame that he can’t pitch more intelligently. At least for now.

And honestly, I think he did a much better job of mixing pitches when he was in the rotation.

by Lord Duggan on Jun 10, 2010 1:04 AM EDT up reply actions

I think so as well.

Believe me, I want him to succeed as a starter. But every time he gets that count up to 3-2, I just shake my head.

"WHO WOULD LEAD?! THE CLOWN?!"

by I'mGivingYouARaise on Jun 10, 2010 1:06 AM EDT up reply actions

I miss seeing Joba’s curveball as well. That pitch had a shitload of potential and he would consistently throw it in the strike zone. And now it’s just like a token showing every now and again with him in the pen.

by Lord Duggan on Jun 10, 2010 1:07 AM EDT up reply actions

Yeah I remember his curve could be wicked at times.

Perhaps he should try that instead of those predictable sliders.

"WHO WOULD LEAD?! THE CLOWN?!"

by I'mGivingYouARaise on Jun 10, 2010 1:10 AM EDT up reply actions

That would be a good post. Go through his games this season and assign the likelihood of each pitch in what count, or what # pitch in the sequence.

"Have faith in the Yankees, my son. Think of the great DiMaggio."

How on Earth am I supposed to predict if we resign Javy and Andy via chart?

by Lord Duggan on Jun 10, 2010 12:44 AM EDT up reply actions

I’ll see what I can do.

by Lord Duggan on Jun 10, 2010 12:47 AM EDT up reply actions

Well I can certainly make a Cliff Lee centered post. I’m very anti-Lee for some reason. I don’t think it’s based in fact at all, but I just want the Yankees to have nothing to do with him.

by Lord Duggan on Jun 10, 2010 12:50 AM EDT up reply actions

And with that said, I’d be interested to test my assumptions and gut feelings, so hopefully within the next few days I can get something up.

by Lord Duggan on Jun 10, 2010 12:51 AM EDT up reply actions

Possibly it could tie in?

I’d love to see an off season projection type post, but I think it’s way early for that.

by WhatwouldJeterdo on Jun 10, 2010 12:51 AM EDT up reply actions

Well a lot of it depends on how Javy does for the rest of the season, and whether or not the Yankees offer him arbitration or just let him walk.

by Lord Duggan on Jun 10, 2010 12:52 AM EDT up reply actions

I think a big part of the Yankees pursuit of Crawford will be on how GGBG finishes this year. If they see him make strides at the plate and continue his excellent defense and base stealing, they will be less inclined to overpay for Crawford.

by Lord Duggan on Jun 10, 2010 12:54 AM EDT up reply actions

I love watching him play.

Plus I think he’s going to be an outstanding player.

"WHO WOULD LEAD?! THE CLOWN?!"

by I'mGivingYouARaise on Jun 10, 2010 1:01 AM EDT up reply actions

I'm not of the opinion we have to have an All Star at every position.

I love what Gardner has done out there and I would hate to see him get screwed over just because he doesn’t have the power or the name.

by WhatwouldJeterdo on Jun 10, 2010 12:56 AM EDT up reply actions

GGBGs batting average is irrelevant…his OBP is much more important, and so far this year he has done a pretty solid job of drawing walks. If his OBP is in the .370 range, he’s very very valuable and should stay in LF and in the 9 hole.

by Lord Duggan on Jun 10, 2010 12:57 AM EDT up reply actions

Definitely, I’m not disagreeing with you. And while we’re on the subject, Gardner massively (like 70% of the way to AJax) was outperforming his peripherals at the beginning of the year…..so hopefully we don’t see him fall off a cliff in the coming months, especially with this thumb injury.

I would rather the Yankees not be forced into the necessity of overbidding for high level free agents, but if GGBG isn’t going to hit, he’s gotta be replaced (I’m a much bigger Werth fan, but either way).

by Lord Duggan on Jun 10, 2010 1:00 AM EDT up reply actions

Crawford is a dynamic player

But I think Werth fits better. I hope Crawford stays put though.

I just don't think it's music.

If you don’t sing or play an instrument, and most rap does neither from what I’ve heard, I can’t see a logical way it’s music.

I think arranging music and beats are a definite aspect towards music, and some rap can be seen as poetry.

What?

You mean chording with your off hand? Honestly, I prefer learning some songs first. There’s some very good instructional videos for very easy songs to play. I learn the songs because it gives me something to break up the monotony of chords.

Well, they wanted me to just learn to play right handed.

But I think I’d be better at it if I played with my left hand, which is my dominant hand. However, the guy who was teaching me said he “won’t be able to help me” if I switch it, so it’s a problem.

by WhatwouldJeterdo on Jun 10, 2010 2:57 AM EDT up reply actions

Teach yourself.

That’s how most guitarists do it anyway. The only difference from left to right is the strings are switched. As a left hander you’d form chords with your right hand. It seems like it’d be easier to chord left handed for you, but that’s now how it’s done.

After taking about 5-6 years off from college to figure out what I wanted to do, I dealt with what my job situation would be. After those 5-6 years, I got straight A’s!

I'm not real sure I have the right major.

I’d love to do something with sports though.

Or digital media.

I'm a psychology major right now.

Although, I need to decide if I want to stick with that or switch again.

I watch the rw/rr challenges too.

And I may have set The Bachelorette to record.

by WhatwouldJeterdo on Jun 10, 2010 2:44 AM EDT up reply actions

I love the challenges!

I could watch them forever. Evan is my favorite.

I used to watch, but since the whole Jason/Molly/Melissa scandal I’ve been boycotting it.

Isn't all 'reality' tv bad?

I've just always been of the

‘nothing real about reality tv’ group.

True.

I’ll admit there’s some I don’t mind.

I just like tv in general.

Especially when I don’t have time to sit down and watch an entire movie.

by WhatwouldJeterdo on Jun 10, 2010 2:51 AM EDT up reply actions

Me too.

I’m so used to taping stuff that even if I can watch it live I tape it so that I can skip the commercials.

by CAyankeesfan on Jun 10, 2010 2:52 AM EDT up reply actions

It depends what's on.

In college there were a few shows on MTV I usually watched.

I also miss Liquid TV.

"WHO WOULD LEAD?! THE CLOWN?!"

by I'mGivingYouARaise on Jun 10, 2010 2:54 AM EDT up reply actions

I think they need to pull the name off of MTV

Just call it Reality TV or whatever but dont call it music tv, the Hills have nothing to do with music.

by YankeesJets on Jun 10, 2010 2:56 AM EDT up reply actions

Absolutely.

With YouTube, MTV & VH1 no longer serve a purpose in terms of music videos.

"WHO WOULD LEAD?! THE CLOWN?!"

by I'mGivingYouARaise on Jun 10, 2010 2:59 AM EDT up reply actions

I dont agree

I still like having a channel on my tv that shows some videos. I was in my glory when the played the MJ stuff when he died. It brought me back to when I was a kid. Youtube..not so much.

by YankeesJets on Jun 10, 2010 3:01 AM EDT up reply actions

But that's what I find sad about it.

It took MJ dying for them to actually show music videos again. I remember those great days watching late night MTV or hell, The Box, and watching music videos, but those days are gone. Now, I can just search YouTube and find pretty much any music video I want in an instant.

"WHO WOULD LEAD?! THE CLOWN?!"

by I'mGivingYouARaise on Jun 10, 2010 3:07 AM EDT up reply actions

It's not, but there's no going back.

MTV & VH1 will never relive those glory days, and with the internet, to make a new Music TV station would probably be a fruitless endeavor

I’ll always have VH1 Classic. I even miss pop up video

I watched "Top 100 1 Hit Wonders"

a few weekends ago. Spent way too much time with that but LOVED IT.

I saw that.

Those shows are great

I just dont see how the Hills and the other junk is more entertaining

by YankeesJets on Jun 10, 2010 3:16 AM EDT up reply actions

I don't like the Hills.

When I was in middle/high school I loved The OC, but I’m sure that’s more of a product of how old I was than actual good television.

Sometimes.

Most times though, I’m very stubborn. Haha, it’s probably why I’m still single.

But they're painful to watch.

I mean, in one class last year, some chick showed us 8 minutes of the Sex & The City movie, and I wanted to punch someone in the face.

I haven't seen the original.

But I thought it was better than the new 90210 (I did watch the old 90210, though) which I don’t watch.

by CAyankeesfan on Jun 10, 2010 3:23 AM EDT up reply actions

I loved One Tree Hill back in the day too.

Now, not as much. Without Chad Michael Murray it lost most of it’s appeal to me.

by WhatwouldJeterdo on Jun 10, 2010 3:23 AM EDT up reply actions

I watched it in the beginning.

My roommate and I watched it freshman year (the last year I watched it) and we would sit there and say their exact lines 10 seconds before they said them. Horrible writing.

by CAyankeesfan on Jun 10, 2010 3:24 AM EDT up reply actions

I hadn't watched the hills in a few seasons

but I started again the last few episodes because I enjoy seeing the trainwreck that heidi is.

In my humble male perspective.

F*** no.

One of my friends on facebook just updated her status saying

“really Red Sox…what were you thinking?”

and this guy commented saying he hated the Red Sox. She asked why and he said, “Bandwagon fans and their team is obnoxious.”

by CAyankeesfan on Jun 10, 2010 3:11 AM EDT reply actions

Like I always say...

The one and ONLY one good thing to come out of Red Sox WS victories is that now their fanbase knows what it’s like to have frontrunner douchebag fans!

Absolutely.

Like I said, now the Red Sox fans can actually see what fans like us have to deal with.

Which a lot of real Red Sox fans hate.

I’ve talked to some who almost wish they didn’t win, simply because of what their fanbase has become.
