Around SBN: Carmelo Anthony, Amar'e Stoudemire Vow To Fit In With Lin

New York Yankees 4, New York Mets 0: What A Grand Win

I know, I know, pretty simple title name, but it's the best I can come up with! CC Sabathia pitched eight shutout innings and Mark Teixeira hit a grand slam, as the Yankees beat the Mets 4-0. It was the Yankees 9,500th win as a franchise. Also, the win means the Yankees tied the Mets in the subway series this season. (Yankees won 5 out of 6 last year)

The Yankees will now travel to Arizona to face off against the Diamondbacks with their heads held a little higher. The only negative in the game was Alex Rodriguez swinging on 3-0 with a runner in scoring position and fouling out. Mark Teixeira's grand slam was the Yankees only scoring and also was his second straight game with a home run.

Comment of the Game: Free Bradshaw's appropriate picture.

Who cares about A-Rod swinging 3-0? He got a cookie right down the middle, put a pretty level swing on it, but missed it. I’m not worried about his patience at the plate, A-Rod will always draw plenty of walks, I’m more concerned with him hitting some more line drives.

If I manage the Yankees, I don’t even tell A-Rod what the “take” sign is, he can hit in any count that he wants. Yeah, he might make a few outs, but I love him swinging at fastballs right down the middle, and more often than not, he’s going to hit the ball hard. He shouldn’t be forced to take them “because it’s a 3-0 count” and then swing at whatever he wants 3-1.

If you’re at A-Rods level of skill, and you get a pitch you think you can drive, swing away.

by Lord Duggan on Jun 20, 2010 4:43 PM EDT reply actions

Completely agreed with Duggan

Arod is one of the best and most experienced hitters the game of baseball has ever seen. I’d trust him to make the correct decision in which pitches to swing at.

In Jeter, We trust.

by Chris McKeown on Jun 20, 2010 4:46 PM EDT up reply actions

I said pretty much the same thing earlier

What is really the difference 3-0 or 3-1? ARod has struck out a bunch of times after being up 3-0, so I think it was the right move.

by YankeesJets on Jun 20, 2010 4:53 PM EDT up reply actions

I mean it would be one thing if he swung at a breaking ball in the dirt because he looked overanxious, but this was a fastball right down the middle.

by Lord Duggan on Jun 20, 2010 4:54 PM EDT up reply actions

Then I’d have A-Rod swinging every time

by Lord Duggan on Jun 20, 2010 4:56 PM EDT up reply actions

If Ollie is pitching, I bench A-Rod so he doesn’t get hit in the head with a pitch that was supposed to be on the outside corner.

But yeah, Ollie vs. Vlad would be a blast.

What is the point of making all of these pointless conclusions that change on a weekly basis.

Beginning of the season, OMG Sox are in trouble. A few weeks ago, OMG Yankees are in trouble. Now, OMG Rays are in trouble.

There’s what 90something games of baseball left, and we’re all withing 2 losses of each other? Yes, there are going to be mini runs by teams, but claiming anyone is in “trouble” only to reverse that claim every few weeks over the course of an entire season seems rather silly, no?

appearntly according to espn

the success of joe torre was b/c he managed the yankees in a NL way….does that make sense to anyone?

by lololol on Jun 20, 2010 8:22 PM EDT reply actions

It makes sense in that it’s an ESPN idea, so of course it’s entirely false.

Joe Torre was the epitome of an AL manager. Trot out the same hitters in the same order every day, have a few trusted guys in the bullpen with defined roles, don’t steal or bunt very much, and rarely use the bench.

by Lord Duggan on Jun 20, 2010 8:25 PM EDT up reply actions

yea i thought girardi was more of a Nl style manager than torre

thats y i was confused since the yankees with torre rarely small balled or played match ups

by lololol on Jun 20, 2010 8:26 PM EDT up reply actions

Rarely use the bench?

During those title runs in the late 1990s the bench was a weapon.

Yeah, it's WWJD. After last night, I've decided my nickname for her is Waffles!

Lets see, so far I’ve listened to Monday Monday by Mamas & Papas, Today by Jefferson Airplane, and right now I’ve got on Heart of the Sunrise by Yes.

by Lord Duggan on Jun 21, 2010 12:58 AM EDT up reply actions

Just the Guitar & the Mic.

Since it’s late, I’ll probably just guitar it up instead of singing!

"WHO WOULD LEAD?! THE CLOWN?!"

by I'mGivingYouARaise on Jun 21, 2010 12:58 AM EDT up reply actions

You should get some drums Ringo! I miss drumming on Rock Band a lot (cuz it was my friend from school’s game, and so I don’t have it anymore)

Every time I listen to a song that I played on there a lot (like I just listened to Spoonman) I’m like playing the song in my head.

by Lord Duggan on Jun 21, 2010 1:01 AM EDT up reply actions

I do not have the mental capabilities to handle drumming.

LoL, I’m awful at it, even on easy. Besides, some one has to sing!

"WHO WOULD LEAD?! THE CLOWN?!"

by I'mGivingYouARaise on Jun 21, 2010 1:05 AM EDT up reply actions

Hey YankeesJets.

And, come on, man, everyone can play on easy! The notes are like 10 feet apart and you don’t even have to use the bass more than once every 20 seconds.

by Lord Duggan on Jun 21, 2010 1:08 AM EDT up reply actions

Hey Duggan

I suck on drumming even with it on easy, lol

by YankeesJets on Jun 21, 2010 1:10 AM EDT up reply actions

Alright, well if we jam out I’ll hold the drumming down though.

As long as it’s Rock Band drums though, I’m sure I’d be hopeless on the real thing.

by Lord Duggan on Jun 21, 2010 1:13 AM EDT up reply actions

Sounds like a plan.

I’ll handle the mic! That I can usually do on Expert.

"WHO WOULD LEAD?! THE CLOWN?!"

Yeah man, expert is where the party is!

by Lord Duggan on Jun 21, 2010 1:15 AM EDT up reply actions

Lol! They do have that, or close (cowbell) for the vocals, where you just have to tap the microphone.

by Lord Duggan on Jun 21, 2010 1:17 AM EDT up reply actions

Id feel like an idiot tapping the mic

You guys wouldnt be able play, you would be laughing too much

by YankeesJets on Jun 21, 2010 1:18 AM EDT up reply actions

In some songs (Somebody to Love by Queen for example) the piano part just gets played by the guitar, which is really weird.

Yeah. It should be an interesting addition.

by Lord Duggan on Jun 21, 2010 1:26 AM EDT up reply actions

Really depends on what’s going on at the time. Football and basketball season raise that number a bit.

I applied to a bunch of out of state ones. I had a cousin who went to Arizona and loved it so I applied there, but not ASU. It was one of the random places I considered going to get far away from here. We see how that worked.

by WhatwouldJeterdo on Jun 21, 2010 2:24 AM EDT up reply actions

by WhatwouldJeterdo on Jun 21, 2010 2:12 AM EDT up reply actions

by Lord Duggan on Jun 21, 2010 2:13 AM EDT up reply actions

When I was with a bunch of West Coasters in Arizona, everyone said I didn’t even have a trace of an NY accent.

My buddy that I went to high school with that also goes there has it a little bit though according to them.

by Lord Duggan on Jun 21, 2010 2:17 AM EDT up reply actions

Huh, thats odd

You must be very well spoken. In Boston they would pick up an accent, lol

But I guess she’s the exception to the rule. It’s not a thick NY accent, but it’s a NY accent nonetheless.

Interesting.

Here, guys can call each other bro and that’s fine. But if they call someone A BRO that’s an insult. A very specific stereotype of guy. One that I don’t mind, but they think represents douchery.

That's funny, because that's the exact sort of stuff

that my dad DID play for me. He was like “LEARN WHAT GOOD MUSIC IS, KID”. But he was very relaxed about that sort of thing.

My dad most certainly did.

He raised me on pretty much everything.

My dad likes some rap. Not much, but some.

I grew into some things myself, like Rap & VGMusic.

Wow if bbs was here, we could talk about that for an hour and she’d have no idea. All we’d have to do would be to call it pie!

Eastwood westerns are prettty good.

I’m not the biggest John Wayne fan though. However, I have a lot of respect for the director.

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly!

Yes! I love the music in it as well. I actually have some Ennio Morricone on my iTunes.

by Lord Duggan on Jun 21, 2010 1:28 AM EDT up reply actions

That is shameful.

The Boys of Summer is such a great song too.

The Ataris did one a few years ago.

It wasn’t terrible, but I still like the original better.

by WhatwouldJeterdo on Jun 21, 2010 1:13 AM EDT up reply actions

HAH!

It’s one of my favorites. I really love that version.

by WhatwouldJeterdo on Jun 21, 2010 1:23 AM EDT up reply actions

I have to go to bed soon. Screw summer school.

by CAyankeesfan on Jun 21, 2010 1:55 AM EDT up reply actions

Well if music keeps you awake, I could only imagine what those types of books would do.

by Lord Duggan on Jun 21, 2010 1:56 AM EDT up reply actions

Oh dear.

The only thing I have batteries for is my ACTUAL flashlight.

Overuse of the reply button. We are like the anti Nintendo vs. Sega
